What if there were no stripclubs?

Saturday, July 2, 2005 7:21 PM
I was thinking what if there were no stripclubs to go to for entertainment? What would you guys do then for your pasttime? For some of you, it seems like stripclubs are a large part of your social life so how would it effect you if all of a sudden they closed down or banned all stripclubs? Would it be hard to live without going to one? and what would be your alternatives for having a good time?

FONDL, Check my reviews and you'll see that I split most of my time between JP's and Good Guy's in DC. I used to live very close by. I'll take occasional trips down to Camelot, the Royal Palace, or the (presently under renovation, but hopefully re-opening soon) 1819. I've got a friend that swears by the Gold Club. I've always thought I should get up there to try the Players Club or McDougal's. Heard a lot about Choo Choo's, but it was always a bit too much of a drive for my taste. To get back to the original question, I think I wouldn't mind, since I only seem to go if the club is very easy to get to.

Abbie, where do you hang out? I used to work in the DC area and am familiar with most of the clubs. My favorite at the moment is Gentlemen's Gold Club in Baltimore. I use to be a regular at Choo Choo's in Waldorf and at CCR in Alexandria. Those 3 cover a pretty broad spectrum of club types. But to get back to the original Q, if there were no clubs, the escort business would be booming. Come to think of it, it is anyway. I bet a lot of escort customers started out as strip club patrons and realized that they could often get more for less money from an escort. I'd bet that every time local strip clubs raise prices, the escort business benefits. I'd also bet that a lot of escorts start out as strippers.

I actually started going to clubs because I moved to DC for my first job and the only decent bar within walking distance was a strip club. Now I live in the 'burbs, but if I want a few beers after work the closest bar is still a strip club. There are resturaunts with small bars attached, but considering that their beers are only slightly cheaper and I stare at CNN with the closed captioning on instead of naked girls, I go to the club. If it wasn't there I'd go home or to a different bar. I also got into FONDL's habit of checking them out while traveling. It is somewhere you know you'll have fun in a strange city.

I guess I'd get out the old stamp collection. Like FONDL, I fell into the hobby as something to do while out of town on business, and to this day, I never go to strip clubs while I am in my home town. However, occasionally, my "out of town" business IS going to a strip club. Thank God my favorite club is 200 miles from home and not 1500 miles. Of course, air fares are pretty cheap these days...

I started going to strip clubs many years ago when traveling on business. It seemed like a positive alternative to sitting in the hotel bar and getting sloshed or going to a movie, in that I didn't have to be alone all evening. That was my main purpose, not being alone. The eroticism certainly added to the pleasure but for me that wasn't the main attraction. In those days there wasn't any touching allowed in most clubs anyway. So if there weren't any clubs I suppose I'd have looked for some other way not to be alone.

Stripclubs would be recreated in private homes in rec rooms or basements, for known friends or paying members only. Some all nude private clubs already operate this way, with the cops taking a healthy cut. Special shows would be arranged for high rollers. Word of mouth, secret codes, etc. But it would continue one way or another.

If there were no stripclubs there would probably be some increase in other forms of prostitution. This is the main reason strip clubs are allowed to exist at all, IMO. On the other hand, I think the better solution to the prostitution issue would be to just legalize prostitution and be careful about health regulations. That's how it is in Nevada. No way that will happen in this decade though given how people are mixing Christianity with politics these days. Maybe in the 2010s or the 2020s. In general though, I think you are right Jpac: most people would just do more of the things they normally like. Maybe some of the old guys here would take up stamp collecting or playing chess instead? Hmmmmm? If I had never gone to strip clubs I probably would have just spent the time at home reading instead.

I guess I should put my 2cents in since I started the topic. I guess I would continue to do what I am doing already that is going out to "dance" club every now and then, checking out a sporting event, watching a movie, or just hanging out at a friend's house "shooting the breeze".

There's a part of me that wishes I kept up my volleyball game from my college years. I was fairly decent at that and there are a couple places around here with volleyball leagues. But I haven't done that for years, so I probably couldn't do well at that anymore. I suppose there is also bowling or slow pitch softball. And you can drink at those places. But I don't enjoy most bars because it seems like most of the women are either married or just total teases.

If the option was not there, we would find some other activities. That is the norm with everything. People adapt to the changing environment. Bar people just go to a particular bar based on our comfort zone. Some go to sports bar, local dive bar, night clubs, restaurant bar, hotel bar and others. It is just a place were you are comfortable to socialize with others. I think that the fascination with topless bars is that the girls come up to you. So for some that are not incline to approach girls at regular bars or are too lazy, then the topless bar is a nice option. But if it was not available, we learn new tricks.

Didn't realize lopaw was around this long. You go girl! I wonder if she is getting to the age where she is substantially older then the dancers? If an guy is an old geezer, what might she be, an old geezette?
