I would hate to ruin your joke, but Jani Lane died in 2011, apparently drinking himself to death. BTW, I believe he ended up marrying the girl in the Cherry Pie video briefly. Bizarrely enough, according to Wikipedia, his given name was John Kennedy Oswald.

As for the song, one of clubs I visit regularly plays 80's hair metal songs like Cherry Pie at least 20% of the time, so there, at least, I'll hear it.
