"I'm an Artist"

I complimented a dancer on her stage set. She thanked me, said it was nice that someone appreciated that she was an “artist” and not just “shaking her ass” up there.

Pretentious nonsense or do some strippers qualify as artists in your book?

I saw one that I qualified as an artist. Very graceful, chose flowing see though dress that looked like a purple and red luminescent cloud around her when she was dancing. I think she could have went pro in the legitimate theater.

The rest - tuck, roll, spread.

Well, since you were impressed enough to compliment her, Steve, I think she's entitled.

If you want to stir something up, point out the industry is dependent upon guys having surplus dough to spend which they typically to don't have during a bad economy. I said as much and got an instantaneous response of "The industry is dependent upon us being here to work." True, but if they (the guys) don't ever show up with the money the gals will probably disappear (as them doing it for free 'in the name of humanity' will most likely never happen.) Such was my conversation with "Tiger" at Fantasy Girls in Reno, whom I even thought enough of to give a special plug in my review.

I think some of us ARE artists. Those who put thought and effort into a stage show, costuming and makeup, that can REALLY work the pole (on stage guys lol)- yeah, we're artists.
I had a real issue when I moved to Atlanta & went to work because I didn't like the fact that most of the black dancers in black clubs basically all did the same thing. No originality!

Some can be, but few and far between.

I once heard it said, and I agree, that artists are sensitive to their environment. As a writer, I'm sensitive to a lot of things (i.e. violence) that don't bother most guys. The only dancer I came across that identified herself as an artist had tats and multiple piercings. Maybe she didn't understand marketability.

Is dance an art form. Yes, it is. And bad, lazy and boring dancing is still artistic expression. If not, First Amendment protection for SCs will erode.

A while back a stripper that I knew had her mother in the club with her. I had to ask, What does your mother think of this? She replied that her mother thought that it was an art form. I doubt that her mother was aware of what was going on in the back room.

SuperDude got it right. But for "dance being artistic expression," many clubs would find no recourse against being shut down.

Artist? What? They exist to suck dicks for money. Where is the art?

I have no doubt some are artists. My first ATF was indisputably an artist. This is the one who made her outfits, at least most of them. When she danced at her club, the one I associate with her, she would do these choreographed routines, like she was a Laker girl or something. Her choice of clothing, music and moves seemed well integrated. I don't think she was the greatest at what she did, but the fact she would try something like that was great, being most of the dancers there were essentially ass-shakers. There are some others I thought were artists, but most are not.

BaddJack, blowjobs in & of themselves are more an act than a performance, you need fucking AND blowjobs to have a performance!

They can be artists at draining your wallet.

There is a difference between strippers and dancers IMO. Dancers take the stage and give an artistic, alluring dance. Strippers sorta stumble around like they are drunk.

This thread reminds me of a movie where a disgruntled porno-dude yells at his director/producer: "I'm not some fucking stunt-cock; I'm an actor!"

next question might be: would we consider dancers to be athletes? Should they have their own Olympic sport of pole dancing? They have strip clubs all around the world so I am sure they could find other countries to compete against the US. It is similar to gymnastics.

Certainly its art. Sometimes bad art but no different from ballet etc where you are going to be entertained. Society just got ultra prudish around the 19th century and treats it as taboo - time to move on.

Now what about some Arts Council subsidies here in the UK?

I think there's something to the artistic approach to pole dancing. There's some art there. High art? Hardly. An expression of grace, beauty, strength and agility? Yeah, a to a point.

I like good pole dancing. Unfortunately in the 313, dancers think walking around the pole is a trick. It's pretty lame at most clubs.

There are some dancers that are artist. These are the girls that add to the fantasy. I know one dancer who will never give any extras but is really into the fantasy of setting up a sexy relationship in her private dances.

I need to tell you, she gets me harder than any girl who gives extra's in the VIP.

This girl (woman) really knows the art of fantasy. Isn't tha the reason we go to the clubs? For extra's - escorts are the better and most positive alternative.

Dancers/strippers are dancers/strippers. They do it for money, not for the exercise.

"This girl (woman) really knows the art of fantasy. Isn't tha the reason we go to the clubs? For extra's - escorts are the better and most positive alternative."

Escorts are generally more expensive in my area and my budget is miniscule. Of utmost importance to me is looks. An escort, even with online photos, is a pig in a poke. I don't care or want extras from a woman that I'm not attracted to.

Until escorts can show me the goods before I spend money they aren't a real alternative for anything. FONDL used to repeatedly yelp that customers who desire extras must go to an escort----he didn't care about looks and felt all customers should feel the same.

What's the definition of "artist"? Someone who creates something that is beautiful, original, or moving in some way? If that's true, than some strippers are artists. I agree with Philip that in the 313 (Detroit), dancing is pretty much a lost art... the norm is shuffling around the pole, maybe hanging upside down a little for the energetic ones.

I have commented in reviews that at Scarlett's in Toledo, the standard of dancing is very high. Not necessarily "artistic", but very athletic and high-energy. The weird thing about Scarlett's is that the action on stage is very hot... in Ohio full nudity and alcohol are allowed together... for a $1 tip a guy will get a Stevie or have the dancer put her legs over his shoulders and spread it wide. In the VIP, general rule is "don't touch the boobs or the kitty", they keep their panties one, and I think most of the girls observe the rules pretty closely. Strange.

Of course there are exceptions to the poor dancing rule in the 313. There is a dancer at Bogart's named Pleasure, changed recently from Bebe. Still remember the first time I saw her on stage... it was during a finale, with 10 or so girls up, but she stood out because she was doing something completely different. Not athletic, but very graceful and (dare I say it) ethereal? Don't know if she is just stoned all the time or from a different planet, but it looks like she gets lost in her "art", in the beauty of her movements. That first time I saw her I do remember thinking "wow, she really is an artist".

Stripclubspy, the person you asked about has been trolling here under various names for several years. He's just begging for attention. Why? Who knows, but trying to figure it out here would only encourage him. I've had his current nickname on ignore ever since he debuted it as a sock puppet for one of his earlier names. The reason this board has an ignore function is that Founder added it expressly so that we could make him invisible. The only time many of us know he's still around is when somebody else takes the bait and responds to his provocations. Yeah, I know, it all sounds too pathetic to believe, but it's true.

Back on topic, I'm a patron of the arts, but it ain't why I'm in a titty bar. In an art gallery, I'll pay big bucks for something I fancy. In a strip club, I might pay a bit for some ass shaking, but for art, she'll be lucky to get my polite applause.

chandler, I thought you took that troll out. How then can he be me and still around? Did you fail as a "taker-outer" just like did as a writer?
  • Dougster

Oh, and back on topic. The whole "artist" thing is them being in denial about what they really are: namely whores who will suck and fuck for money. Some especially dumb customers, like stripclubspy, might like to play along or kid themselves since they might feel better about spending money on "art" than on whores.
