Michael Moore- asshole of the century
I just knew a thread like this was coming. It takes enormous guts and courage to be a sniper. That's not the point. The movie opens with Kyle watching images of 9/11 and then cuts into Iraq. So the audience thinks we went to Iraq because of 9/11. Thing is, Al Qaeda, the ones threatening our freedom, were in Afghanistan and Pakistan, NOT Iraq. That makes the movie essentially propaganda. I can imagine the TUSCL crowd LDKing in their theater seats while watching the movie. ...and, yes, Dougster I *am* parroting the liberal media. The movie's taking an avalanche of criticism -- not just from Michael Moore -- and I've never seen anything like it.

Clubber wrote: " It was the whole "force banks to lend money to anyone that wants a house even if there is no way they can pay for it" plan. The Community Reinvestment Act " ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- @Clubber: Didn't see your post about the CRA until now. I used to follow the housing market obsessively. In fact I was so convinced that we had a housing bubble that I sold a property before the crash and picked up a nice custom home in late 2009 for pennies on the dollar. That the CRA caused the housing crash is a right-wing fantasy that comes up over and over. It never seems to die no matter how many times it is debunked. I can't count how many BS articles like that appeared in the WSJ editorial page. Blaming government support for the poor is what the GOP stand for. Something like 85% of bad mortgages were issued by private brokers, not Fannie & Freddie. Something like 85% of loans made to poor people were also issued by private brokers. It was the financial services industry -- the slicing and dicing of mortgages into securities -- that brought down the economy.

"How is meeting with the current Israeli PM "getting involved in the Israeli election"? ------------------------------------------ The Israeli election is just a polite way to try and explain the snub. Clearly Obama is pissed that Boehner invited Netanyahu to address congress, probably to push for sanctions on Iran.

OT: As Gasoline Heads Toward $2, the Benefits Start to Trickle Down
Guess I'll have to step in until Steve gets back. Maybe Steve.dot will weigh in on income inequality. From center-right publication "The Economist" Nov 2014: "The really, really rich get much, much richer On the other side of the spectrum, the fortunes of the wealthy have grown, especially at the very top. The 16,000 families making up the richest 0.01%, with an average net worth of $371m, now control 11.2% of total wealth—back to the 1916 share, which is the highest on record. Those down the distribution have not done quite so well: the top 0.1% (consisting of 160,000 families worth $73m on average) hold 22% of America’s wealth, just shy of the 1929 peak—and exactly the same share as the bottom 90% of the population. Meanwhile the share of wealth held by families from the 90th to the 99th percentile has actually fallen over the last decade, though not by as much as the net worth of the bottom 90%." I changed the fucking decimal point onya again Dougsteer. Now it's 0.01%. I think Zipman (who is on a role) said it best: there's no objection to inequality on TUSCL because the TUSLers think they are the oligarchs. For example, Dougsteer things he's Mark Zuckerberg (or maybe that's Paris Hilton). Oh, and for those that did not grow up on a farm, here is the definition of a steer from Websters: "Definition of STEER 1 : a male bovine animal and especially a domestic ox (Bos taurus) castrated before sexual maturity "

"I will assume you know that clinton was a part of the "near-depression conditions." obama took on. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- @Clubber: I think we are on the same page, here, but not sure. Agree that the Clinton administration laid the seeds for the financial collapse. ...and let me first say that Dougsteer has been exceedingly rude to me lately, implying that I have a low IQ, implying that I'm incapable of independent thought, and stating that I'm a partisan "parrot." At one point, he even implied that I have a vagina. All this makes me want to cry -- like John Boehner did on 60 minutes (one of Dougsteers fav shows). So I should emphasize that I am not partisan and that I blame the Clinton administration and specifically Robert Rubin for the repeal of Glass-Steagall. That allowed banks to construct fucked-up things like mortgage-backed securities and CDOs that ultimately tanked the economy. Rubin then got a job at Citigroup (after we bailed them out) and made a cool $120M. What a scumbag. So, yes, Clubber it was the Clinton admin that tanked the economy. That's why we need more politicians with BIG balls (like Liz Warren).

    OT: Best Journalism?
Actually, Dougsteer, even though I ripped on the WSJ, I've had paid subscriptions to center-right publications like WSJ and Econmomist for something like 20 yrs. As far as the WSJ, the news reporting itself is well-written and objective and the investment advice is sometimes pretty good. Stopped reading the editorial section, though. They had Steven Moore for years, a hack that went on to be chief economist of the Heritage Foundation. Steven Moore is an example of what stupid people think a smart person sounds like. I personally like WaPo, NY Times, Krugman's blog, VOX, Salon. Note that I listen to both sides (even listen to you) -- so stop calling me a parrot, you trolling lunatic.

Comments: (1) The WSJ is a conservative rag for people who can't think straight. Especially hate the editorial page. (2) The most remarkable contribution of the Gates Foundation is a new skin-like condom with ultra great sensation!!! Forget Sub-Saharan Africa; should help those geriatric hound dogs who just have no self control. (3) Small typo there (should be 1% and not 0.1%). Only off by one decimal place. Not like you're off by an order-of-magnitude or anything. (4) Sure wish "Strvie-girl" would come back.

^^yes, it makes a difference. Duh! For example, if you lose your job and get cancer, you would probably prefer the party that champions universal health care and a system that does not deny for pre-existing conditions. Pre Obamacare you go bankrupt and then die. Clinton was my favorite, but Jerikson makes a valid point about conditions outside the control of the prez. Clinton was lucky to be in office when the dot-com boom juiced the economy. Obama had to deal with near-depression conditions. Least favorite was Bush Jr. & Reagan.

"I'm neither Republican nor Democrat. In fact although they may talk I think there is about zero differenece between them. Even if you are naive enough to believe their talk their is still about zero differenece between them." -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Too cynical, even for you Dougsteer. Huge differences exist. Something like 90% of GOP in Congress doesn't believe in climate change. The evangelical wing doesn't believe in evolution. The GOP is the party of fact-denial in general-- and they revel in their ignorance.

^^^Do you ever sleep, Dougsteer? Yes, there's that delightful "stepped-up basis" loophole which allows you to reset your capital gains when you die. It's a huge gift to rich people. Closing the loophole is just one of many reasonable things in the Obama proposal. Do y'all right-wing nuts want to live in an oligarchy?

"A lame duck president pointlessly running their mouth? Shocker!" -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Well that might reflect the view of a site like this which is slightly to the right of yer average Klan rally. Note that Obama's approval rating is up to 50%. Obama is is actually doing a good job of fucking with the GOP and making them look bad. First with the EO on immigration. How can the GOP slam Obama on immigration without losing the Latino vote (again)? Asking for a cap on IRA contributions makes Romney look like a fool without actually calling him out by name. How can the GOP effectively deal with a plan to tax the 0.1% without alienating everyone else? No, Obama is good at fucking with people. It that sense he is like the Dougster of the American political scene.
