My favorite clubs no longer in existance are "Danny's" in Memphis and "Showtime" in Nashville. In the 80's Danny's was a small club in a strip(sic) center near the Memphis airport. It was simple and high energy with full contact lap dances at your table. I think the concept of private dance areas was not in existance at the time. Lots of cute girls all willing to give you a great dance for $10. Showtime( a typo of which resulted in my nickname on this site) was a somewhat sleazy club in a sleazy area of downtown Nashville. During the 90's you could get a private dance with just about any extras you wanted, often at no additional charge. Platinum Plus in Memphis would have probably made the list but unfortunately I only made two stops there before its untimely demise.
The Gentleman's Club or Club Nikki in Atlanta were wild as hell, and the first black clubs I ever went to... owned by gangstas of course, and the clubs went down when they did ;)
The Playhouse Theater in (West?) Warwick, RI. It was 18+ (they stamped yer hand if you were underage for alcohol), and there was little to no hustle for LDs there. Even though the place was a total dump, they had plenty of hot, young, naked chicks there all the time.
I agree Danny's was a gem, in fact when I had business in Nashville or Birmingham in those days I'd find a way to make a Memphis side trip. Returning to Birmingham made me a Yankee driving across Mississippi in the middle of the night. We were all crazy then. I think Danny's closed about 1993.
My favorite, without a doubt, was the Tanga Lounge in Tampa, the little hut out by the bay. It was probably most famous for the hard plastic chairs in the lap dance room, but it also had a great roster circa 1992-96. I still have a picture I took of brunette Pam and redhead Alison on the beach wearing "Wrap your ass in fiberglass" shirts I got from a Corvette shop. Raquel was the all-time cuddle queen. There were double dances with JJ & Rosemary and... I could go on but you get the idea. It was fading badly before highway expansion took the property in 2003.
One more club worthy of note was the House of Babes in Casselbury, Florida, the only nude club in the group around the Orlando jai-lai & dog track. It was a dump, then they fixed it up, then it had a fire. Coincidence?????
The Naked I in Boston's combat zone. It was a fun, dirty club, but not at all
like the depressing Glass Slipper across the street (which still exists).
There were two dark rooms, each with a well-lit stage, one large and one small.
It had some really good-looking girls. I remember one who did her routine in
roller skates. Good times, good times.
TB I had forgotten about GiGi's. It was a good one also. I too found the coupons/ads in sports section of Memphis paper. Never got to Tunica Caberet before it closed.
The Showboat in downtown San Diego. It was an all nude joint with dancers who were porn starlets between movies. It wasn't uncommon to get a real show onstage that might feature a bottle going into naughty places, or two gals really enjoying each other onstage. Once in a while a guy would be brought onstage for a bed dance (he was clothed, she wasn't). Like most of the all night theaters, adult bookstores, and strip joints in the downtown area, it went away in a redoing of downtown into something chic and tourist friendly.
I also have to mention the "Roaring Twenties". It was a really tiny strip joint, also fully nude, in downtown San Diego. It had been a strip joint since the 1950's. In 1982, the longtime owner sold it to a dancer for 50k. A year later, she sold it for 13 times that in the downtown purge. It had been an ultra low mileage joint during it's existence, but on it's last day became high mileage-with the words of the owner:"What are they going to do? Shut me down? We're closing today!!!"
Gotta go with Tanga Lounge- sad how "development" can mow down a good thing.
My next choice would be "Bottoms Up", Lauderdale/Sunrise area that went out sometime in the early 90's. It was a good down to earth, non-prententious club.
The Landing Strip in Romulus, MI by DTW Airport. A great stop on the way home from a long road trip. Cute dancers, a few 10's and high mileage. New owners ran it into the ground and fall off in air travel didn't help.
I too remember Dannys with a longing of many a night spent there. What I though was amazing was BYOB, and closing the place down, my clothes trashed out, rental car in the lot, taxi back to the Holiday Inn, three hours rest, Holiday Inn shuttle to airport and asking to be dropped off to pick up rental car. The girls were southern hotness at its finest. In Detroit, before the Flight Club, Landing Strip, and Playhouse, ther was a fantastic strip club in Highland Park....drum roll... Club Manchester, amazing, makes me smile from ear to ear
I don't know if I have one that was a favorite closed club. The amazing thing about living here in Nebraska for the last 12 years or so is the sheer number of clubs which have closed, mostly by managerial incompetence. Granted, in Omaha, they are bikini bars which were never worth the time. Anyway, if you go NW from Omaha to Fremont, they had two clubs which were nice. Thanks to the laws here, contact was one way, but both the Lariat Club and Boomers were great times. I got to see my ATF at the Lariat, and a number of high quality girls, a couple of whom I would get to meet OTC. I was less fond of Boomers, but they still had plenty of girls worth the time. Unfortunately, both got nailed by the law. I never did find out what happened to Boomers, but the guy who owned the Lariat Club turned out to be the town drug dealer.
Another club of the past to add to Danny's, Tanga, and House of Babes I mentioned in my first post - the Peek-a-Boo on Lake Worth Road in West Palm Beach.
I discovered the Peek-A-Boo, thanks to TUSCL, in about 2002. It was a real dive and some of the girls were scary but what mileage you could get! The place was seedy enough that I stayed out of the VIP rooms in back. It closed after (alleged) hurricane damage in 2005 and the sort of upscale gentlemen's club I detest is now on the site.
I still have a shirt that says "I Got A Nude Lap Dance From Your Girlfriend at Club Peek-A-Boo." I got to know the doorman Mitch pretty well- he looked like he should be working military security in Iraq. He had to be tough with that crowd. A year or so after the club closed we recognized each other at a trade show in Philly where he was selling metal buildings.
I too have been to Danny's in Memphis. That is where I got my first lap dance. That was probably 12 years ago. I went back 10 years ago only to find it closed but I did find the Memphis Platinum Plus club and it was my favorite for 2 years. Til it got shut down.
The Red Garter in East St. Louis burned down on July 17, 1996 at 2:23 am and it took my heart with it. It was a rat hole of a place and your life felt threatened in parking there, but it was non-stop DATY and BBJ at the stages with a few surprisingly good looking girls. Never spent more than $40 (1-2 hours) and always left full.
The Chameleon Club in Washington Park burned down this summer. As a whole not nearly as good as the Red Garter, but it definitly had its moments of extreme pleasure. It deserved to burn because it was actually a very bad place during its last couple of months in business.
We've had a couple of other clubs catch fire this year as well. At the rate that some of these clubs are burning down that might be a good business to be in.
J K's Talk of the Town in East Brunswick, NJ. Where I began my serious clubbing career, due to idle time while I was on rotating 8 hr shift coverage near by. Would pop in before or after a shift for a cheap drink and to ogle the dancers.
A dive, often no more than 2 dancers each doing a 30 minute stint on stage. Recorded music, after awhile I knew the next song on the tape. Met my first and longtime ATF there (15+ years). Great memories. It's a shame they bull dozed it and added a cloverleaf turn on Rte 18.
Neither of these was my "favorite", but both were notable in the history of clubbing.
Tanga was the first stop on my only "clubbing" visit to Tampa in 1998. I got my first nude lap dance there.
Chez Paree in SF. Home club of several of the early ASSC contributors, and perhaps some of the impetus for this site... Where are those guys now? I went there once and enjoyed a few very nice private dances.
Like snowtime-mine is Showtime of Nashville, closed by the law on 10-06-2004, for prostitution and drugs (what a shock-NOT!) The owner was the brother of a former mayor. I had so many HJs and BJs there, I couldn't even count them. I once took a co-workers 21 year old son in there and he got a free BJ and FS from a very drunk stripper. His father hates me to this day. Where have you gone- Taffy, Rachel, Rayan, Chastity, Destiny, Candy, and many more.
Forgot about Babes Nashville. It was closed the same night as Showtime. Full of awesome girls. Gemini, Heidi, Brandy, Cherry, Electra(AKA Desiree), Sadie, Josie, Jenna, Barbie and many more. A lot of hanky panky went on but not enough to get it closed in my opinion. Mercedes(later better known as Roxanne)met me OTC. Angel was one of 2 girls arrested for prostitution(the other was Triston) I had met her for an OTC BJ in my car. I is sorely missed-this is what a stripclub should be-lots of hot girls and a little extra if you want it.
Chameleon Club in Washington Park, Illinois. The club was a dump, but Debbie (bisexual, probably 40 years old at the time) stole my heart. If not for Debbie, I wouldn't have a fond memory of Chameleon Club.
Late great mileage centers: Fantasia, Richmond Hill (north of Toronto) Ontario; Babes, also Toronto suburb; Roman's Babies, Welland Ontario.
Late great lap-dance phenomena: Tanga, Tampa; Platinum Plus, Memphis.
Quite recent closure: Big Daddy's, on Bourbon Street in New Orleans. The one with the mannequin legs that swung in and out of the front window all day and all night ... "Suzie" ...
I will say Diamonds in Greenville, SC. It was nude and I could bring my own beer without paying any additional charge. Some of the girls were very hot and I liked most of the music they played. It wasn't the best club in looks and it was in a run down part of town. In fact the bathroom had a large stall that looked more like a farm trough but I didn't go there for the looks of the club.
A close second or even a tie was a club in Fayetteville, NC called Rick's. I only got to visit there for a year or two before they closed it and started up a new club called Mickey's but it didn't have the same atmosphere as the old club.
I remember a number of clubs in the Kansas City, KS area before the local DA decided he had to shut them all down. Jackass! My favorite was Leggs. First club where I was a bona-fide regular. Some pretty hot girls and the dances were usually OK at least. Almost certainly mobbed up but it had that wonderful quality of being seedy and classy at the same time.
For a regular, the KCK clubs (topless) were great. Leggs, Shadows, Red Apple & Bachelors III, plus a few rub joints. A few girls did some things ITC; all girls did everything OTC. Lots of drug trade. Lots of shady characters. Bombs, Fires. Politicians getting paid-off. And you could watch it all for a $2 cover charge.
City got a woman mayor in 1990 (??) who, as the story goes, had caught her hubby in one of these places year or so before, and he quickly became her ex-hubby. Within 6 months of her election the clubs were declared a "public nuisance" and were closed.
Luckyone is right-on about seedy but classy. There are still some veteran managers and DJ's at other clubs in KC, but now they are aged, distant reminders of a strip club heyday 20 yrs ago.
I have to echo some of Cougars choices....Red Garter in East St. Louis. Only visited once but it was great! He also mentioned the Chameleon which burned down. I would like to add Main Street, Cheeks, and Exposed to his list (all in this area). Same owner (went to jail) but great low cost grind on your lap at the stage clubs.
In Chicago, the Picadilly Circus in Lyons. Closed sometime in the 90's. Girls had "dorm rooms" where they would take you for private dances and everything was available.
I also remember some of the hotels along one of the major highways in KC, MO having lingerie shows that came along with a meal of some sort back in the late-1980s and early to mid-1990s. Do they still do those??
Big Daddy's in New Orleans. Or so says the local magazine, which writes as though it closed in October. But reviews are still coming in from December. Anyone who's been a tourist on Bourbon Street will probably remember the club where the mannequin legs swing in and out of the front window.

gets my vote
