Favorite "closed" club

My favorite clubs no longer in existance are "Danny's" in Memphis and "Showtime" in Nashville. In the 80's Danny's was a small club in a strip(sic) center near the Memphis airport. It was simple and high energy with full contact lap dances at your table. I think the concept of private dance areas was not in existance at the time. Lots of cute girls all willing to give you a great dance for $10. Showtime( a typo of which resulted in my nickname on this site) was a somewhat sleazy club in a sleazy area of downtown Nashville. During the 90's you could get a private dance with just about any extras you wanted, often at no additional charge. Platinum Plus in Memphis would have probably made the list but unfortunately I only made two stops there before its untimely demise.

My favorite, without a doubt, was the Tanga Lounge in Tampa, the little hut out by the bay. It was probably most famous for the hard plastic chairs in the lap dance room, but it also had a great roster circa 1992-96. I still have a picture I took of brunette Pam and redhead Alison on the beach wearing "Wrap your ass in fiberglass" shirts I got from a Corvette shop. Raquel was the all-time cuddle queen. There were double dances with JJ & Rosemary and... I could go on but you get the idea. It was fading badly before highway expansion took the property in 2003.
One more club worthy of note was the House of Babes in Casselbury, Florida, the only nude club in the group around the Orlando jai-lai & dog track. It was a dump, then they fixed it up, then it had a fire. Coincidence?????
like the depressing Glass Slipper across the street (which still exists).
There were two dark rooms, each with a well-lit stage, one large and one small.
It had some really good-looking girls. I remember one who did her routine in
roller skates. Good times, good times.
My next choice would be "Bottoms Up", Lauderdale/Sunrise area that went out sometime in the early 90's. It was a good down to earth, non-prententious club.
I discovered the Peek-A-Boo, thanks to TUSCL, in about 2002. It was a real dive and some of the girls were scary but what mileage you could get! The place was seedy enough that I stayed out of the VIP rooms in back. It closed after (alleged) hurricane damage in 2005 and the sort of upscale gentlemen's club I detest is now on the site.
I still have a shirt that says "I Got A Nude Lap Dance From Your Girlfriend at Club Peek-A-Boo." I got to know the doorman Mitch pretty well- he looked like he should be working military security in Iraq. He had to be tough with that crowd. A year or so after the club closed we recognized each other at a trade show in Philly where he was selling metal buildings.
The Chameleon Club in Washington Park burned down this summer. As a whole not nearly as good as the Red Garter, but it definitly had its moments of extreme pleasure. It deserved to burn because it was actually a very bad place during its last couple of months in business.
We've had a couple of other clubs catch fire this year as well. At the rate that some of these clubs are burning down that might be a good business to be in.
A dive, often no more than 2 dancers each doing a 30 minute stint on stage. Recorded music, after awhile I knew the next song on the tape. Met my first and longtime ATF there (15+ years). Great memories. It's a shame they bull dozed it and added a cloverleaf turn on Rte 18.
Tanga was the first stop on my only "clubbing" visit to Tampa in 1998. I got my first nude lap dance there.
Chez Paree in SF. Home club of several of the early ASSC contributors, and perhaps some of the impetus for this site... Where are those guys now? I went there once and enjoyed a few very nice private dances.
Late great lap-dance phenomena: Tanga, Tampa; Platinum Plus, Memphis.
Quite recent closure: Big Daddy's, on Bourbon Street in New Orleans. The one with the mannequin legs that swung in and out of the front window all day and all night ... "Suzie" ...
gets my vote
A close second or even a tie was a club in Fayetteville, NC called Rick's. I only got to visit there for a year or two before they closed it and started up a new club called Mickey's but it didn't have the same atmosphere as the old club.
City got a woman mayor in 1990 (??) who, as the story goes, had caught her hubby in one of these places year or so before, and he quickly became her ex-hubby. Within 6 months of her election the clubs were declared a "public nuisance" and were closed.
Luckyone is right-on about seedy but classy. There are still some veteran managers and DJ's at other clubs in KC, but now they are aged, distant reminders of a strip club heyday 20 yrs ago.
In Chicago, the Picadilly Circus in Lyons. Closed sometime in the 90's. Girls had "dorm rooms" where they would take you for private dances and everything was available.
Big Daddy's in New Orleans. Or so says the local magazine, which writes as though it closed in October. But reviews are still coming in from December. Anyone who's been a tourist on Bourbon Street will probably remember the club where the mannequin legs swing in and out of the front window.
