Two summers in a row, I work so hard all spring to make my lawn look good (I even have a lawn service too) and by mid July it looks like complete shit. Barely any rain all summer and now I’m supposed to get flash flooded tomorrow. Between now and Friday I could get up to 7 inches of rain and it’ll probably torpedo Labor Day weekend.
As of 8/2021 you can see that almost the entire western US has some degree of serious drought. By some miracle, the eastern part of Colorado is getting enough moisture and Denver is currently out of drought conditions.
We do get smoke from fires originating in CA, OR, WA this time of year, and can be really depressing. It's often bad enough that road cycling is out of the question.
We'll be seeing more of the same with climate change -- either not enough moisture and fires or too much water and flooding.
This summer has been relatively good for my lawn in NE NJ. We have gotten enough rain for things to stay green - and to continue growing - through the end of August.
No complaints yet. The grass is usually brown at this time - and the folks with sprinkler systems stand out as very green. This year is proving to be nice.
We got the rain from at least one storm so far - and it was significant. I’m thinking this recent hurricane from New Orleans will give us more rain soon too.
this has been one of the wetter summers at my house in the suburbs of Atlanta. I bought a new flex hose to water the 29 new plants that I put in last summer but have not had to use it. I did have 3 tall pine trees uprooted in my back yard that did not hit my house. I had a 4th tree cut down to protect against future storms. Grass is still green. Ida has not been a problem so far today.
Yeah, Hurricane Nora’s remnants is causing a rain out for swim lessons this afternoon. Now I got to entertain my kids some other way until tomorrow. I hope the floods don’t wash away any more roads around here!
A month-ish ago, Phoenix had a monster midday storm (rare... usually at night), and my little couple square mile pocket on the far west side got nailed... something like 2.7 inches in 3 hours. Doesn't sound like anything crazy for most of the country, but the ground here is so hard, there's nowhere for the water to go. High schools cancel football games for 1 inch of rain. 2.7 inches in 3 hours was Biblical.
My pool *overflowed*. Think about that... Water level is usually about half-way up the tile, leaving 2-3 inches of dry tile. Then there's about 4 inches of a Kool Deck overhang before the walking surface. The damn thing overflowed. Been here since 94, never seen anything like that. Got to turn my lawn's sprinklers off for a week! Since an $80 water bill is made up of like $70 in taxes and fees, I'm sure that saved me about a buck. Strip club bathroom attendant ought to thank mother nature for the dollar in his basket after handing me a paper towel...
We got another 1 and 1/2 inches last night, and I think we’ve gotten close to our annual rainfall total over the past two months. Finally got a monsoon this year! Got nearly 7 inches since July 4th. That’s what she said.
My area escaped the hurricane remnants but we still had the first or second wettest summer,June-August, on record. Also we had several extremely muggier than average days so all in all IMO it was a shit summer.

The west has the opposite problem. I follow this drought monitor because water is a precious commodity where I live:

Good luck with your coming rain storm.

They say Newark got about 8.5 inches of rain last night.
It’s sunny and cool this morning. There is limited service on many mass transit lines.
I won’t need to water my lawn for quite awhile.
It’s interesting how I think of the clubs in those areas when I see the radar maps showing the storm tracks.
I’m thinking - “Oh no! Not that club! That one was good for full service!”
I apologize for joking about a dangerous weather situation.
