    Minority men are the most susceptible to be murdered. Bloomberg has a very racist history. He basically used NYPD as a militarization force for minority neighborhoods

    Bloomberg is also an asshole for propagating the myth that government lending to poor minorities caused the worldwide great recession. Just curious Icey, how would you vote if it was Trump v. Bloomberg?

    I would vote for the Green Party candidate. I don't believe we should be coerced into the anyone but Trump camp. Our problems are systemic and both parties perpetuate said system. If it's not Sanders or Yang I'll vote Green. I'm not playing my part in legitimating the problem. Maybe the US needs to hit rock bottom before we wake up.

Bloomberg was also a great proponent of broken windows policing, which again targets predominantly poor minorities. Shit, between his economic outreach with "Opportunity Zones" and his support for school choice, Trump might actually pull an unusually high percentage of black votes if authoritarian Wall Street Mike is the alternative. Anything over 20% pretty much guarantees a Republican victory.

    ^25, your problem is that you can't distinguish between topical disagreements and personal attacks. So you engage in the latter when you get annoyed by the former, often on a random basis across multiple threads. And you just did the dame above to Icey, who you called an "idiot" just because he doesn't want a candidate like Bloomberg spoon fed to him. Yet he is far from alone in sharing that view. Heck, Trump is actually courting blacks right now because he thinks that he may have a chance given who the Dems are currently fielding and he may be right, like he was with his belief that he could get union workers and flip Michigan. The new crop of Dems are getting so out of touch with their core constituencies that almost all of them are fair game, except perhaps for Socialists and climate change activists. Bloomberg is perhaps better than most, but he makes Trump look like a member of the Rainbow Coalition with his enforcement policies while serving as NYC Mayor and Trump only needs to peel off an extra 10% of the black vote to make himself impossible to beat.

    Op: that is probably statistically true and it is almost def statistically true in nyc, which was likely the context. Not a tactful thing to say but probably not wrong either. Bloomberg inherited stop and frisk from giuliani, same with the broken windows approach. We already see where nyc is headed without it and coupled with the new no bail system in ny state the slide backwards looks to be swift. In 1990 nyc had 3000 murders with almost a million fewer residents than now. Theyve been hovering around 500 a year for about the last decade. With the new bail reform and anti-police climate thats been tolerated and some would say supported by de blasio, crime is already rising.... just in time for bloomberg to say “i told you so” at the summer convention. Gotta look at the big picture, not a soundbite. Whats unfolding in nyc today, helps bloomberg and the arguments for tough on crime policing.

    ^ I don't like anything about Bloomberg but I have to agree Assman is right. I don't like heavy handed police policies either and see us heading towards a police state but again admit that something has to be done to subdue violent crime and make our streets safer for everyone. There aren't any easy answers as to finding a balance that controls crime yet allows us to enjoy our basic freedoms.

    Taking away minodities' civil rights doesn't prevent crime. Also keep in mind that public defenders coerceclients into plea deals and admissions of guilt to make their jobs easier. Would you tolerate the same police tactics if they targeted you?

    Not a big distinction between Trump and Bloomberg, difference is Trump didn’t want Bloomberg in the race you don’t need to be a fan of Bloomberg to know Trump was one of his biggest supporters during the time period when Bloomberg was Mayor of NYC.     This thread seems to have moved way outside of the original premise (on tuscl? Never!) but I came across the actual quote from Bloomberg: “Ninety-five percent of your murders - murderers and murder victims - fit one MO. You can just take the description and xerox it and pass it out to all the cops. They are male, minorities, 16-25. That’s true in NY, that’s true in virtually every city.” By including murder victims, the quote is much less likely to make people’s blood boil. Doesn’t change the fact that the DeBlasio report concluded stop and frisk was being used unconstitutionally (and may have been inherently unconstitutional) but that goes pretty far down the rabbit hole from this thread. Solving difficult constitutional questions is better left to people who aren’t seeking the best way to jizz in their pants (including myself).
