PBS is shutting down

PBS is shutting down because of funding cuts by this administration. It gets worse every fucking day! Cuts to clean air and water. Cuts to anything educational. Cuts to cancer research and being able to detect infectious diseases that could be spreading. Why the fuck does anyone support this shit?

The existential threat is the Constitution becoming a joke. It requires the President to faithfully execute the law. Impoundment mocks that requirement. If Congress actually votes to end funding to PBS, right or wrong, it's legit under the Constitution. I'm more worried about the millions that will die because of the actually import USAID programs that disappeared.

I watch it as well. I think it's despicable that a "president" who can read anything more complex than a McDonalds menu has seen fit to destroy this institution.

Fascists fear an educated population. So they attack universities. Education. Public institutions.

Why is sesame street dangerous? It teaches compassion and basic reading skills.

Less than 4 years from now, there will be another president.

That president could restore funding to PBS.

But they won’t.

Blame Trump if you want but he’s just doing what others would like to do but can’t get away with.

PBS isn't shutting down. From what I've read, the Corporation for Public Broadcasting is shutting down. It funds PBS and NPR. This is because the BBB eliminated its federal funding. Not the president. Congress.

PBS and NPR aren't shutting down, although some rural stations may fail.

I haven't watched or listened to PBS or NPR in over 20 years. Do any adults pay any attention to the crap they spout?

PBS is educational. Shows on the history of fascist dictators air which this administration doesn't like because it's what they are doing now.

I hear Air Canada has specials for those wanting to leave the country. Yet you won't because you don't really believe this is some hurr durr fascist dictatorship.

Somehow the republic lasted a couple hundred years before PBS.

Back in the 80’s I used to be a regular contributor to PBS during their fund drives. I enjoyed some of their programming and thought they deserved my money. Until I received a particular nasty phone call asking why I hadn’t followed thru with my promised pledge. I had my cancelled check in hand. (This was back in the days when banks returned your checks). That was the time I ever donated PBS money. They have the same unethical management as the United Way.

If PBS and NPR had followed ethical guidelines for unbiased reporting of the news and public events, there could be a weak case for arguing for a federal loan to help them bridge to a new public funding stream. Instead, they have been hopelessly partisan for decades - this is unacceptable for media supported by tax dollars. Our federal government has also been deficit spending for generations. Unnecessary programs had to be cut. Of all the many cuts and eliminations made in USAID, CFPB, Dept of Ed., I think everyone can agree that the CPB was the least important of these.

Most of us are taxpayers here, and all of us should want our taxes to be used efficiently to fund a government beholden to the people. If you really believe that tax dollars should be used for partisan political messages, domestic propaganda, and young child indoctrination, then you simply do not understand America and our founding principles of a democratic Republic.
