Anger Management

twentyfive
Living well and enjoying my retirement
Title says it all, maybe I'm crazy but some of the youngest posters here seem to be angriest at the older guys on the board, do they have some terminal disease that will cause them to be dead before they reach thirty-five ? Are they just jealous, because they have not yet reached a point in their lives that would allow them to do some of the same things that us old-timers are capable of ? Another point are they really as ignorant as the statements they make, or are they just children that are carrying on because we don't see things the same way that they do and by making a lot of noise they think that they can make us agree with them. Mind you I am not talking about all of you youngbloods we welcome you,and your opinions but for Gods sake the amount of anger voiced by the loud few, is annoying.

I just take it with a grain of salt. The key word is maturity. The job that I did for 42 years required a license and the minimum age for applying for that license was 25 because they wanted that much maturity.

My advice for the young cry babies is to stay on the porch if you can't run with the old dogs. :)

The world is a pretty frustrating place at the moment. This young generation is currently the first one in a while to not be more well off than it predecessor. Some of that is structural and some of that is just change and the new normal.

There's also a severe deficit of good male mentors out there. There's a lot of deadbeat dads and absentee fathers. That doesn't help things. So there's a lot of pent up energy and frustration and it's not always clear what the outlets or solutions are. Some of the BS being shoveled out there as answers/solutions/advice/guidance doesn't appear to work.

It will be fixed in time.

I'm sure this isn't the first time this has come up and it certainly won't be the last.

    Agree.

Some of the posters on here have amassed enough $ to have sex with just about any hot 20 some year old in the clubs (at least in Detroit).

A few posters in the same age range are definately jealous.

Oh well... Off to the VIP with a 21 year old smoking hot cutie for me. lol.

Your original post is passive aggressive and filled with blanket statements. Clearly you have people in mind, but won't mention them. As far as your ignorance statements go, you and I have argued and I believe I won.

Perhaps you wish you were still young. I can't fathom why else these youngsters could bother you so much to the point that you have to make a post about it.

    Carry on.

Well, I'm angry about the way you hairless apes have fucked up the planet. But I not a young vulture. Indeed, all vultures harbor a little anger towards hairless apes.

But don't worry. I take my position on the council of ricks seriously. When the glorious cat revolution comes I plan to be a benevolent overlord. Just realize that shit rolls downhill. Lions are at the top of the hill. Then tigers. Then vultures. You hairless apes come somewhere after sharks and turtles.

Nina believe whatever you want if you are looking for an argument that's not my aim,I just want to understand why some of the younger posters can't win an argument on style points so they think calling people old is the equevilant of making a bonafide point. As I have told you before spiking the ball in the end zone doesn't mean you have scored a TD and scoring a TD with time left on the clock doesn't equal a win. As far as passive aggressive is concerned not giving a shit is not passive aggressive it's just not giving a shit. I don't care what you think of that
  • NinaBambina
But clearly you DO give a shit, Twentyfive, because you made a post about it. And I am a youngster who HAS won an argument with you where YOU were the one resorting to ad hominem. The youngsters are calling you old and you are calling them young. Stop being a hypocrite.

Younger males simply seem envious of the lifestyle of older guys and incredibly fearful about getting old. Never before in history has outward appearance been so much more important than who you are inside and therefore aging is something to fear, rather than appreciate. Add in the fact that baby boomers (thats me) have used up everything good on the planet and left nothing and you have anger. Baby boomers not only have and had better lives than their parents, but we have had better lives than our children will as well. At 25 (1982) I knew I would use my education to ensure a great future and the sky was the limit. Now a 25 year old sees no future. I would hate to be 25 and face the decline and fall of america. I hate it at almost 59, despite living here during the greatest years. Today's America seems more of a conglomeration of failed, insular communities, compared to the melting pot I grew up in. NINA: no one "wins" anything on line. As a lawyer I represent a lot of angry young men. I feel sorry for them, since they grow up in a pussy pc world.

One of the few rewards of getting old is amassing money which will enable you to do more things, or maybe open up some doors that would otherwise be closed. It's not automatic with aging, you have to know what you're doing.

Think of it as "paying your dues." A lot of people from the current younger generation simply do not understand what it means to "pay dues," and think they are owed instant gratification. Could I drop the money I do now in a club when I was 23? No. Am I much wiser and can better handle myself in a club now that I am older? Yes.

Skibum makes some great points about the millennials and maybe even the next generation to come. Those reasons are why I do not have children, I fear there will be too much struggle for future generations and some of these young guys twentyfive is talking about will have bigger problems to deal with than where JS69 spends his money.

One limitation of participating in internet discussions is that it is hard to distinguish "actually angry" from "just pretending to be angry to fuck with people!"

In general I try to do neither! Though a few people do irritate me, I just try to ignore what they're saying when they irritate me! "Just try to be brilliant!" is my ace motto! ;)

Well, I'm old enough to know better but still young enough to not care.

For a lot of younger guys, the world is a rough place. Sure, you can theoretically score hot young pussy free... but it's called "getting lucky" for a reason. Not in the top 10% of looks or income? Prepare to work your ass off for inconsistent, limited rewards with women.

There are a lot of "have nots" in the world.

I keep picturing nina's nipples in my face. :)
    Win win
The only reason I clicked on this thread was curiosity about who was angry.

I remember an encounter with some nipples that were out to get me. One nipple rubbed against my lips, another somehow popped in my nose. Watch out for those nipples guys. They may seek you out.

Here's my thought - and I won't push it farther. I think the grass always seems greener on the other side. I try to be happy where I am. When I was young - I had the benefits of youth - but not much money. Now - I'm older - and I'm healthy - and I have a good amount of money. The YOLO attitude of youth has been replaced with the wisdom of years (lots of mistakes and lessons learned).

Do I want to be young again - no - I'm happy where I am now. Would the knowledge I have now help if I had it when I was young? I'm not sure. Part of being young seems to involve ignoring some good advice - and making your own way (and making your own mistakes).

Hijacking! Futuretrackstar there isn't a secret or "tip" to making money...EVER! The only way to get money is by earning it and saving/investing as much as you make over time, and probably investing in education to promote your career so you can advance to higher paying roles.

If there were any "tips" I sure as hell wouldn't give out that information for free. I would borrow someone else's money and use their money to make me profits without any risk, except there is no such thing. Most "tips" are failures for get rich schemes, so just go out and spend less than you earn.

    I'm winning!

@Meat72, while I wouldn't go as far as chessmaster and call you an idiot, I would disagree somewhat. There might not be some specific secret that can guarantee large sums of money (other than "steal and don't get caught"), but I think there is definitely knowledge that can equip somebody with the faith to make certain decisions that will result in large profits.

As an example, I'm a big fan of an economist by the name of Peter Schiff. He recently predicted the rally that happened in the price of gold after the FOMC raised interest rates in December. I bought a gold ETF in late December/early January, and it went up 10-12%! If I had been more sure, I would have bought more than a couple thousand dollars of shares, and would have gained more than a couple hundred dollars.

Also... simple example.... insider trading, or just getting good/bad company news before it's public knowledge.

I think somebody who has a very deep understanding of history, law, economics and finance is much more capable of making money than the average layman.

To Futuretrackstar-Meat is right that there is no secret formula, its common knowledge, that by saving and investing over a long period of time you can accumulate enough to live nicely, and although some folks do better than others, there is one thing that many miss. The people that have gotten the wealthiest in general (not an absolute) have not been focused on money, but have been fortunate enough to find a thing that they like and basically strive to excel at, investing in learning, and practicing till they are proficient at that thing. Generally being the best at whatever that is you enjoy, if you do that you will earn well and prosper, keep in mind, not all interests are equal but no matter what the field of endeavor happens to be, those that do the best are those that work the hardest to be the most excellent and most knowledgeable.
As far as investing it is no different learn as much as you can no one method is correct all of the time, the broader your base of knowledge is the better you will be able to make informed decisions, and while sometimes informed decisions are incorrect, the wrong decisions must be factored in to your overall understanding, making a mistake is not usually fatal, more important is recognizing a mistake quickly enough to cut your losses and recover from them.
One last thing about investing in yourself the earlier you do that the sooner you will realize your expectations as long as they are realistic.

Honestly, with respect to investments - there are many older guys who probably have anger management issues as well. Remember - older guys have lived through (and invested through the crash of '86 - the tech crash - and the recent recession) - and they have lost money - clawed it back - then lost it again - only to lose it again. In my opinion - those guys should be angry.

There are simple ideas that I have when making personal investments - and these aren't for everyone. Make sure your investment allocation matches both your age and risk tolerance. The younger - the more risk you may decide to take - more stock (less fixed income).

Invest for the long term - don't speculate. If I'm watching a stock price daily - or hourly - I know that's not good. I don't want to invest and then keep thinking about it. Did I get in at the right time? I dollar cost average to avoid market timing.

I own few individual stocks - as I find diversification to work much better. Again, I don't bet on specific sectors. I am a major proponent of index investing - as I studied and modeled many investment mixes - and that is what provided the most reasonable return vs risk over a 20 year horizon.

Use your company 401k and use automatic withdrawals from your paycheck to invest the max allowed each year. You reduce taxable income on a portion of your salary and you don't have to choose if you are going to invest or spend. Don't take withdrawals from your 401k - and don't take a loan from your 401k either.

I don't listen to the Wall Street writers and tv hosts. They share info well after its actually useful. The best info - on hot stocks - is given to the big money investors long before we get it - so the stuff they share isn't news to most of the street. If they don't have a "tip" they can't put on a show - or write a column.

Sorry to be so lengthy -
  • Mate27

FTrackstar, the thing about guys like Schiff is they may get a call like gold once in a while, but they can't make consistent guesses over a longer period of time. And since investing is a lifetime venture, your strategy has to be consistent because those that make predictions are generally wrong more than they are right. Over your lifetime there will be many ups and downs in all types of markets, but nobody has the crystal ball to see ahead of the markets and make better than 50% correct calls on a strategy that tries to time markets. Because of inflation just accept what markets give you, because due to inflation markets go up way more than they go down.

Been repeating the prior statements for 20 years in my profession, and one thing I know is that whenever I've given this valuable advice and they are a skeptic, they give you a look like you're an "Idiot", yet somehow I'm sure my strategy has beaten theirs 97% of the time over decades of comparisons. That's only if you have the correct mentality, because most of the underperformers are too emotional to stick with things through tough times. Just look at a guy like SJG, he's probably outside right now flying a kite like a little 9 year old, because he forgot he was supposed to start a new revolution, where pussy is free and we will all be saturated in it!
