Hello!! I've been dancing in Detroit for a few months now and from talking to a lot of the black dancers (yes i am also black) they say it's hard to get a job at the "white clubs" I've never had this problem but made me wonder why they don't allow very many of us to work at once..is it because the costumers prefer majority one race over the other or is it more of the clubs preference?
At the one club that I am familiar with(Not Detroit)where they do discriminate in this fashion, the club's posture is that it helps keep out the thug factor/drug traffickers.
My club is in a mostly white suburb, but there are a few black dancers. Usually spinners; none with the big booty and huge boobs. I don't know if this is a racial thing or management just doesn't want larger size dancers. There aren't any larger while girls either.
The fears are: (1) too many Black dancers and the club's customer base "tips" and becomes gangsta;(2)many White customers are just not attracted to Black dancers; (3) Black dancers bring the boyfriend/baby daddy drama into the club, hurting business; (4) Black customers don't spend as freely as Whites. The manager doesn't want a club full of non-spending customers of any race, but it's easier to tag Black customers as cheap.
All of these issues are grounded in false racial stereotypes that have governed decisions in other areas, i.e., sale of residential housing, integration of public schools, hiring and promotions in private industry. If too many of "them" get in here, property values drop, there will be interracial dating high school, our customers will shy away.
The last time I went into one of my favorite clubs, the crowd was definitely different than I had ever seen it. While there were 2 AA/biracial dancers there, there were also half a dozen AA guys, which is unusual for this club. It didn't really bother me except for the fact the guys outnumbered the dancers 3 to 1, so I usually leave when that's the case. I haven't been back in a few weeks so I don't know if that was a one time thing or a trend. Won't affect my visits at all and I'm an old, white dude. I will most likely be visiting there this week.
Unfortunately, the racial stereotypes are not entirely false. US crime statistics, compiled by the FBI, show that young black males - nationwide - commit over 80% of all violent crime. Since young black males actually comprise less than 5% of the total population that is a staggeringly significant number.
While I agree with SuperDude that false stereotypes have been unjustly used in other areas (there is no significant statistical difference - in any area, crime or property value or other - between Black, Asian, Hispanic and Anglo FAMILIES - two parents plus child or children) - the one area of significance does apply to SCs. Right of wrong, many strip club managers fear the negative impact of predominately black crowds in their clubs. I don't know whether limiting the number of AA dancers is an appropriate answer and I don't like the restriction, but I understand why that approach is attempted.
There is one club I used to frequent where initially there was a good balance of black and white dancers. I noticed that as more young black males who tried to come off as thuggish and hard as possible started to regularly be at the club, more of the white dancers moved on to other clubs. The last time I went to that club there was a group of young black males hanging out in the middle of the parking lot who were in my way keeping me from parking and knew they were in my way. They just hung out there and made me wait before eventually moving and letting me park. Get inside the club and there are a bunch of other thuggish looking characters inside. Most of the girls there were black, which I'm cool with, but the guys in there seemed to be trying to pick fights and just be jerks. Knowing the atmosphere that was given off inside the club and in the parking lot I decided it would be best to go elsewhere after that or else I may end up in one of shadowcat's 2a.m.er stories.
I do understand them not wanting a rowdy crowd but I get asked all the time when I'm at a white club how come there isn't more aa girls working and never really knew how to answer them so thanks everyone for your input :)
Read my review of a Lookers in Fort Myers, Florida. There was a 50/50 mix of black and white dancers and more than half of the customers were younger black men. I didn't feel comfortable there. The club itself was fine, and for customers who feel comfortable in a club where most of the customers are younger black men, it's a good club. I'm a middle aged white man and I feel more comfortable in clubs with predominantly white customers and dancers.
I'm sure that it's because of the customers that they're trying to attract. My favorite dancers wouldn't work much at Lookers though. It's all in the type of customer the club is trying to attract.
Rightly or wrongly, I believe Shadowcat's observation is accurate. At the Inner Room here in Florida there is a distinct increase in AA dancers after 9:00pm and a commensurate increase in thugish customers by 10:00. Which was the causal factor, chicken or egg? Can't be sure but have observed this phenomenon for several years.
This can be unfair to potential black dancers who may not get hired, but scan the escort ads on Backpage and you will see many notices of "No Black Men" so the prejudice goes both ways.
The main reason is what SuperDude said in his 2nd point. The majority of strip club customers are white and most of them (not all) aren't attracted to black dancers.
An analogy that (I think)makes sense is how Playboy magazine would pretty much have all white girls in their magazines. You'd rarely see a woman of color. And when I say woman of color, I don't solely mean black women. I mean Hispanic and other races as well. Playboy has gotten better with variety as time has passed, but it still heavily favors the white girls.
A business is always going to suit what they're selling according to what the majority of their customers like.
Most of the women of color that I have encountered have been very sensual dancers. I just look for attributes that seem appeal to me at the moment, race doesn't matter.
@shadowcat I agree a lot of black customers like white strippers but on the flip side 98% of my customers are white no matter if I'm in a more urban club or at a mixed bar...idk maybe it's the thrill of getting something u don't have at home! :)
My favorite Detroit clubs--Penthouse and Flight Club--have mostly white dancers, but there are always a few black dancers too. The black dancers in these clubs are not the thick, big booty strippers I have seen on YouTube. They have bodies that resemble those of white dancers.
1beauty, I wonder if you get hired but others do not because of your body type. The "white" clubs may be discriminating more on shape than on skin color.
A club has to have the girls on staff that his clientele want. If you do not your clientele will go elsewhere and your demographic will change. When your demographic changes then your pricing structure must change to fit the income of your clientele. The point is if the clients want skinny white girls that is what the manager will hire.
I have a choice of 2 clubs somewhat nearby. Club A is 10 miles away and has about 1-2 black dancers at any time. Club B is 40 miles from me and usually has 5-8 black dancers and 1-3 white. My preference is club B. The AA dancers give a higher contact level and I just find them more "fun". The crowd is usually about 60% white and I've never seen much thuggishness, but I normally leave by 10 PM.

As far as black dancers at "white clubs" drawing thug elements, please understand that black men to not go to so called "white clubs" because black women are dancing there.
They can get that at the black clubs. They are there for other than black dancers. That's why black dancers do so well with white customers in "white" clubs.
Note that I use the parenthesis because there really aren't very many strictly white clubs. This current generation is thankfully far more integrated and cross-cultural for something like that to exist.
I recently went to both La Chambre and Criket (in Detroit) in one night. Both are mixed clubs. I'd say Chambre was 60/40 black/white, both for dancers and customers, and Criket was 20/80. Neither one seemed particularly thuggish or scary to me.
Flight Club seems "whiter" now than it was a few years ago. I remember seeing quite a few hispanic and even Indian dancers in the past. But I don't go there enough to really say it's a trend.
It’s basic segregation – although it’s not applied by law as it once was – it is still practiced via people’s actions. That is why there are so many all-black neighborhoods and all-white (for the most part) neighborhoods and not that many mixed hoods – SCs can be said are a reflection of our current society and its segregation practices/habits although it may not be of the overt form.
Just as the phenomenon of “white flight†has occurred in many US cities (e.g. Detroit) over the decades; same can happen with SCs (and has happened to a few SCs I know off myself).
I’m a white Hispanic guy but I’m mostly into black women (don’t know if I’ve mentioned this before on TUSCL :)). I go to mostly all-black clubs b/c that is where “coincidentally†I find the most black dancers :) – and the type of dancer I like (the thick ones). IME – in mixed and especially upscale clubs – black dancers cannot look “too black†and certainly cannot act “too black†– thus one will often find the more “palatableâ€, for lack of a better word, type of blackness in these clubs (i.e. black chicks that are similar to white chicks in looks and attitude/behavior).
It also has to do as much with class as color. I’ve been to a few upscale black clubs (very very few seem to exist) where the vibe was pretty much the same as an upscale white club. The black custies seemed the successfully employed; educated; well non-gangsta dressed types; etc. - in these types of upscale black clubs, I was kind of the low end customer.
as a black dancer it is harder to get into predominantly white clubs. Racism exists in those environments. They have a 2 per 20 rule here in new york. They try to have 2 black girls working per 20 other girls. They say anymore and it will make the club black. There was actually an incident at the club that i work at during the nightshift where they sent one of the black girls home because there were too many. I used to work at the club during nightshift . Made the club alot of money, did alot of rooms. I left for about a year and decided to come back and I was told that i couldn't work because they had to many girls. In other words they already had their fill of black girls. So i decided to work dayshift where i have been the only black girl the time working there.
@lovemetiddy I've never been sent home but I have been told "it depends on how many black girls are working for the night" it's a shame...but I can say when there is less of any particular race leaves more customers for the few there
@1beauty It is really shameful and they try to keep it on the low, this racism. i think it really depends on the girl. Sometimes management will say a customer likes black girls because they saw him get dances from one black girl. That doesn't mean the guy only likes black girls. When some guys come to the club they either have a type or do. Some guys may only like white women or only like black women. Some guys may just like a slim girl with big boobs, regardless of race. No one knows what someone will like. You just have to find out.
They dont discriminate on shape, its basically race. I have seen some slim girls come in and get told no. I have seen all shapes get told no. Management laughs about it sometimes when a girl comes in and they tell her no. One time they seemed to want to show the girls that were coming to audition that they already had their black girl (which was me) by calling me to the front. As far as not wanting the club to turn into something else, Rick's Cabaret is very diverse. They have several women from different ethnicities working every night. While working there once , there was probably 11-12 black girls on one shift. Typically unheard of in Manhattan strip clubs. The club is upscale and classy and there is no thug element. There will only be what you allow.

Bigotry is still with us.
