Per Capita Strip Clubs Quiz

Ok, I admit that every now and then I think up weird stuff to do . . . like figuring out the number of people in a state for each strip club located within its borders. Making the assumption that TUSCL is a fairly accurate directory of the strip clubs in each state (I know, for example, that it's spot on for Virginia) and using the most recent census numbers for each state I came up with a few interesting tidbits. I will post the complete list at the end, but see if you can make some educated guesses to the following questions:

1. What is the number of persons per strip club for the entire county?

2. Which state has the fewest people per strip club?

3. Which has the most people per strip club?

4. Does the most populous state (California) have more or fewer residents per strip club than the least populous (Wyoming)?

5. Which major party's presidential candidate's state (Illinois for Obama; Massachusetts for Romney) has more strip clubs by population?

Here is the list in order of most strip clubs per capita to least (followed by the answers to the quiz if you don't want to hunt through the list):

US 126,000, WV 38,000, OR 44,000, NV 56,000, SD 63,000, NJ 71,000, WY 71,000, HI 72,000, DC 77,000, WI 79,000, OK 84,000, SC 85,000, OH 91,000, IN 92,000, FL 93,000, IA 95,000, LA 97,000, CT 99,000, KS 102,000, AK 103,000, RI 105,000, NC 107,000, MT 111,000, MD 112,000, MI 113,000, AZ 115,000, PA 118,000, KY 118,000, TX 121,000, GA 151,000, DE 151,000, NY 153,000, AL 155,000, ID 158,000, ND 171,000, IL 186,000, MN 198,000, MO 2,00000, NE 204,000, VT 208,000, CA 211,000, MA 219,000, CO 222,000, VA 238,000, TN 246,000, NM 26,0000, MS 298,000, AR 326,000, ME 332,000, UT 352,000, WA 427,000, NH 439,000

1. What is the number of persons per strip club for the entire county? 126,000

2. Which state has the fewer people per strip club? West Virginia (apparently it is Almost Heaven)

3. Which has the most people per strip club? New Hampshire (Live Strip Club Free or Die)

4. Does the most populous state (California) have more or fewer residents per strip club than the least populous (Wyoming)? Wyoming has almost 3 times the number of strip clubs as California based on population . . . Big Sky Country indeed!

5. Which major party's presidential candidate's state (Illinois for Obama; Massachusetts for Romney) has more strip clubs by population? It's Illinois (1 per every 186,000) by landslide over Massachusetts (1 per every 219,000).

Next up . . . Strip Club Density :-D

Very interesting data. Two thouhgs:

1. It would also be interesting to see per capita based on metropolitan statistical data area instead of entire state. Rural area could be draging down the average, or lack of zoning in rural area could up the average. For example, is Portland, OR really the most SC per capata?

2. Still need a way to 'grade on a curve' and not count air dance club or more weight to high mileage clubs.

I like to look at population statistics. When combined with a hobby or interest of mine, I find the combination particularly interesting. This subject was also discussed a little over a year ago. See: "Which states have the most strip clubs for their population?" by bumrubber, posted March 2, 2011: https://www.tuscl.net/postread.php?PID=1…

@ mjx: A lot of Portland "strip clubs" are really just restaurants with a small stage and pole in a corner, further skewing the per capita statistics.

I'll second Club_Goer's observation. Roughly 4/5 of the so called strip clubs in Portland are just bars that have a pole. With the exception of the juice clubs, money laundering operations/drug dealing fronts, and jack shacks, Portland strip club's revenue sources are from 1) Video Crack 2) Alcohol Sales 3) Food Sales 4) Stage Fees, in order of value. That goes for places as diverse as Nicolai Street to Wild Orchid.

@club_goer & mroo: that why I want to grade on a curve

@ mjx01: When I was in school, the teachers I appreciated most were those that graded on a curve.

Now you guys have me rethinking an upcoming trip to Portland. But at least now I know to be careful which clubs I visit if I do make the trip. TUSCL comes through again!

I thought there was a lack of strip clubs where I live. I guess the bigger cities put SC up near the top 11. I'd probably post a lot less if there was a nice club only a few miles away.

SC is probably boosted by the clubs in Myrtle and the other tourist areas. Same is true of LA (New Orleans).

What I find interesting is that states that are demographically similar, but differ widely in the number of Strip Clubs. For example, VA 23800 v. NC 107000 and KY 118000 v. TN 246000 -- and right in the middle of all these is WV in the number one spot.

On the other hand, OH 91,000 and IN 92,000 are, as one might suspect, like two peas in a pod.

@corvus: I found the 'scenery' to be quite nice in portland clubs when I was there. mileage was not impressive, and yes some clubs really should not qualify as a SC. Depends on what you are looking for.

Compared to a lot of other cities, Portland isn't too bad.

@mjx01, I like goood looking scenery for sure. Not too impressed by lots of tats or piercings, and from what I hear that may be the norm in Portland, but a pretty girl with a nice body cures all IMO, even if it is covered with ink.

@ranukam thanks for the comparison as well. I'm looking forward to my Portland trip (if it happens -- October).

You'll have to let me know your favorite clubs up there. I hope to make the most of the trip if I'm there.

First - thanks, this is great stuff
Do you think it might give a different look if the data was SCs per Males 18 and up?

@corvus: ink can be a problem in PDX. Some clubs are worse than other. Ranukam would have better info than me.
