Get a Global Entry card and you will avoid the lines for the US.

Global Entry is the greatest when returning from TJ. There is a separate line on the right at the new crossing, and I don't think I've ever waited for more than two people in front of me. Totally solves the long waits, and it works in many airports as well when returning from international flights, AND Global Entry provides the same benefits as TSA Pre. The other trick is get yourself a US Passport Card for entry into Mexico. It can't be stamped, so there is no written trail of your visit.
