Until reading this post, I didn't even know club-specific boards existed. Seems like a visibility issue -- as far as I can tell, the only way to get to a club's board is to go to the club's page and click the link at the top. Since 99% of the time I'm reading the reviews, I rarely notice anything at the top of the page.
Perhaps a more prominent link to the club boards from the menu on the left would help. Or, an icon next to the club's name in the Recent Reviews list (like the icons next to member names) that would take you directly to the club's board. Anything that makes it easier to get to them will likely make them more popular.
I'm betting that most members are completely unaware that these boards even exist.

Define "testing out clubs." Do you mean to visit as a patron, or to work as a dancer for a brief period?

wondergrl5 - Well, it wasn't like you ripped them a new a**hole or anything. The review itself seemed decent, and you rated the place higher than their average. All in all, seems like they should be OK with that. You may not have made too many friends with LE, though. ;-)

Do they not read this site? Couldn't they have just as easily seen the review here, too?

Unless it was something that was somewhat democratic, I wouldn't want to see any moderation added to these boards. That's a slippery slope once you're on it.
I agree with MisterGuy that the scenario proposed by jablake would most likely be blatantly abused by anyone with money to burn and a lot of chips on his shoulder. The most obvious solution would be to have actual moderators, but who among us is most worthy of such power being granted to them?
My solution -- and this would require programming by Founder to implement, so I doubt it would happen -- would be to provide the ability for anyone to vote "thumbs down" on any given post. Behind the scenes, TUSCL would have a predetermined threshold for the number of negative votes a post must receive in order for it to be deleted. To avoid any "stuffing the ballot box," you wouldn't be allowed to "thumbs down" any given post more than once.
What would the threshold be? Don't know. Something like 5 seems too low, while something like 25 seems too high. To be the most fair, it would have to be based on total readership. I would think that there has to be a way to figure out the average number of people who read these discussions each day. Assuming that could be done, then perhaps the threshold would be 60% of that number. In that scenario, if 20 of us (on average) are reading these boards each day then the number of "thumbs down" votes required to banish a post would be 12. If readership increased or decreased, then the threshold would follow suit.
Like I said, implementing something like this would require some dedication on Founder's part (being a techie, I have a pretty good idea of how much effort something like this could take). But it seems to me like a more fair way to handle this than either selling such power to anyone willing to pay for it or granting moderation powers to a chosen few.

Fat, drunk and stupid is no way to go through life
clubber and chi_sam are definitely on the same page. However, the sort order of the list appears to be determined by the value of a cookie that TUSCL sets (discsortlastreply). If it is set to a value of 0 (or not found, I assume), the list is sorted by Posted date. If it is set to a value of 1, the sort order is by Last Reply date.
Notice that the headings for those two columns are hyperlinks. Clicking them will resort the list and set the value of the cookie appropriately.
I can only assume that Founder felt that some guys would want the list sorted one way or the other, so providing the clickable column headings was an easy (but not-so-obvious) way to do that.
On a forum/discussion board page, I would agree that the default sort order should be on Last Reply date.

Sorry guys, my bad .... didn't catch the whole satire aspect of the original post. Haven't been a regular reader of these discussion boards until recently. Going back and re-reading the follow-ups, it should have been obvious.

Guys, check out the links at the bottom of each page. The glossary link is right there.
That said, I would suggest that it should have a more prominent place in the side navigation links.

I think we've hit on a potential new feature for TUSCL: "Worst of the Week!" Each week, Founder could post the 3-5 worst reviews received during the previous week. If they're anywhere near as entertaining as these gems were, I think it would be a big hit!

@1965jackstraw - unlike most places there's no house fee for LD's here. it's basically what you negotiate with the dancer.

Is the period key on your keyboard broken? It's either that, or this is the most enthusiastic middle-of-the-road review I've ever read.

Doubt you did anything wrong. More likely, it's the fact that the booth curtains are now basically see-through. I saw them for myself a couple of weeks ago and was reading some posts on another site complaining about them, too. That has to be killing a lot of the lap dance business here. As for the Asian chick (she's Japanese) .... she's very nice and sweet to talk to (with limited English) but yea, I don't get how she's making any money here either.

Is the picture associated with this club really what this place looks like from the street (like a detached garage stuck between two buildings)? No signage or anything ... that's really keeping things on the DL!

Pretty accurate (though 50 may be a bit of an overstatement!). You mention 10 girls crammed into the stage area - that's been the trend recently and it's killing this place. There should be no more than 3-4 on the floor at a time. They're driving the old regulars away (me included) with the relentless dollar parade.

based on the $2 bills comment and that the reviewer said that it's "right next door" to Rest-a-Bit, i think this review is actually for Smiles 2 and not Showplace. also, there's no "door girl" at Showplace.

Reviewer has submitted 40 reviews, all for the same club, and has never rated club less than a 9 overall. Most recent reviews are across the board 10's.

"the dancers are mostly white Americans" You sure you're talking about the RAB? 90% of the dancers here are Brazilian. Very few Americans.

This place is in Hawthorne, not Paterson. Big difference from a safety/security perspective.

the $10 charge mentioned is the cover. you're just paying it at the bar rather than to a guy at the door.
