What do you all think about this suggestion?

Striving for mediocrity in everything that I do.

I almost posted this in the thread that @gammanu95 started about dance prices, but then I wasn't sure if I should do that or just create a different thread instead?

Do you all think it would be a good idea or a bad idea to perhaps have a club regular provide something like an "executive summary" for a particular club that they know very well? For someone who visits a club regularly, they might be in a great position to summarize ONLY some very basic info about a club, such as current dance prices, current cover charges, IDs being scanned, etc. This summary would NOT replace the reviews, but rather attempt to compliment them, and the summaries could be made accessible only to VIP members.

The idea behind the summary is that a tuscl member who is visiting a club that they're not as familiar with could also choose to read a quick summary of the club, and see the date that the summary was last modified, or at least double checked by the person who wrote it.

A very quick and totally made up example...

Summary last updated 2/11/2026:

"Dance prices are officially supposed to be $20 for topless or $30 for nude, but some girls are charging up to $30 for topless and $40 for nude. 4 for $100 topless and 3 for $100 nude are commonly offered discounts. No fee to take a dancer to the lap dance area. Cover is $10 after 7pm, and a one drink minimum is required. Club does an ID scan at night, but usually does not scan IDs during the day. Club is non-smoking, and parking can be difficult after 10PM on the busier nights."

The summary would not be intended for going into things like what the dances are like, the variety of dancers, the quality of the club, or anything too specific that a review should cover. It would just give the reader a heads up about how something basic like dance prices might possibly have changed since an older review was written. And if the date of the summary isn't too recent, that also gives a heads up that some or all of the summary info could be out of date...

I like the suggestion that gammanu95 had about dance prices, but could a "club summary" help with that in some way, or is there just a better way to get a snapshot of dance prices and other basic info???

I like this idea if it can be limited to, let’s say VIP members that have posted at least 5 reviews of the club in question. These summaries would have to be dated, and new ones would have to be able to be posted. On the other hand, if you recognize someone’s handle as a regular of the club, you could just search their reviews.

Just read the reviews

@azdd Agreed. The summaries would need to be written by someone who really knows the club, and they'd have to be updated periodically in order to stay relevant. Even if @founder liked this idea, he would be deciding how to implement it, if he thought it was a worthy enough addition to the site!

@Alternative_carry657 Well, unfortunately, the reviews alone don't always give the full picture. Not every review is going to cover every detail, and sometimes even a relatively basic piece of information might not get mentioned one time in even a dozen reviews.

Case in point--I read reviews all the reviews within the last 5 years on a club that I stopped at about a year ago. Imagine my surprise when the night shift security guy asked for my ID in order to scan it. Nope, not happening, so I started to walk out. Fortunately, he decided to let me in anyway without even checking my ID, but had he not done so, that 30 minute drive to the club would have been a huge waste of time. Not ONE of the reviews I read said anything about ID scanning at that club, but that's a pretty basic piece of information that could very well have been included in a club summary. Keep in mind that not every club regular will even bother to write reviews, but there might be a regular who's willing to periodically check over and update a short summary.

Anyway, to me, this is a pretty clear example of how a summary could be beneficial to others, at least if done properly...

Well if none of the reviews provided that info, who is providing the summary with that info??

I'm all for a summary but it won't help if the info isn't being posted in the first place. Typically if a place has current reviews, you can skim the last 5 and get a good idea of what to expect

I think the whole idea behind a summary is...

  1. Someone may be unwilling to write a full-fledged review at times, simply because they might be short on time.

  2. Someone may write a review, but they may leave out some basic details.

  3. In spite of the two points above, someone might be willing to keep a brief summary of a club up to date, because they know the club very well, and it would be relatively easy for them to periodically update a single paragraph summary without having to post a full review.

The reviews would still have great value to someone who really wants to know much more about the club experience. The proposed summary would just be one possible way to quickly obtain a few basic bits of information. Obviously, someone has to be willing to update the summary periodically, but again, that could be less time-consuming than writing a full review, and it could make it easier for the reader to quickly find the answer to a basic question...

One advantage of a summary, which was mentioned in some other thread, is that it could contain the boilerplate description of the place. Then each review wouldn't have to describe the basics of layout, parking, etc..

I've often put a TL;DR at the top of my reviews.
Before writing a review, I recommend looking at recent reviews. If your experience was mostly similar, just add a comment to the last one. Either a simple plus one, or a description of how your experience differed.

@schmoe31415 True, although if a summary is going to stay confined to a single paragraph, it would probably have to stick to the very basics of dance prices, cover charge, ID scan, mandatory valet, etc. :)
