Deal-breaker(s) for an otherwise promising club?

Avatar for ClubFan81077
ClubFan81077Striving for mediocrity in everything that I do.

Have you ever been reading reviews, and thinking to yourself that a certain club is sounding pretty good, only to then see something that makes you go "Oh, hell no..."?

For me, there are at least two things that will get that kind of reaction from me:

  1. ID scanning, or taking pictures of the customers.

  2. A restroom that sounds so disgusting that you'd have to seriously consider whether or not shitting your pants is actually the 'cleaner' option? 😂

Your turn. Do you have one or more total deal-breakers that will prevent you from giving a club a chance, even if it might be your only club option on a given night?

No identifiable fee structure. I hate having to start every encounter with a negotiation.

They let people like me in.

Seriously though, the lack of actual fees bugs the shit out of me too.

Mandatory valet parking or any requirement that I give my car keys to the club.

Valet parking would probably do it if I ever went to one that was required at.

Even if they have a real price structure, if something is more than I want to pay, I'll pass.

I've been to a couple places where they want you to check your phone or put it back in the car. Some people don't want to do that.

That one unionized club in Los Angeles at the door they only take card not cash I said fuck that and walked away.

Most of these are not 100% deal breakers, but close.

ID Scanning. If it's just me, it's deal breaker for sure. If I know in advance I won't go, if I'm alone I'll go elsewhere. But if I'm with a group, sometimes it's easier to just let it go.

Mandatory valet. Sometimes it's a complete deal breaker, depending on what I'm driving and what I've got in the car. Other times, like when it's pouring fucking rain. The availability of valet becomes a requirement for me to go, assuming again I'm in a vehicle I'm okay giving to a valet and I've got nothing in it to worry about. For example yesterday, I was on the way home from the game and stopped in. It was poring rain and I was in a 10yr old truck with nothing in it but leftover tailgate supplies. If there wasn't a covered valet option, I would have just kept on driving home. But instead, I took a break from sharing the road with idiots who can't drive in the rain.

Leaving your phone in the car would be a deal breaker if I ever encountered it. Luckily I've never seen it.

I've also skipped clubs that I know like to take and post videos of club activity on their socials. There's one club down here that has a sign that serves as notice that's what they do. I don't go there.

No fee structure I would see as an irritant, but it's something I could get past if there were other redeeming qualities.

Discussing bathroom isn't a deal breaker by itself, but usually if the bathroom is that nasty the rest of the place is nasty too. The two combined can be pretty close to a deal breaker.

One I've recently realized is a deal breaker for me is, obvious drug dealers/pimps. I'm not naive, I realize there is probably always one or two guys selling drugs in almost any club. And I'm sure there's a often a pimp too. But I'm talking about scenarios where you take one glance over there and know exactly what's going on. There's been a few instances now of club locally where management has welcomed them in, and they're just not worth the risk of trouble to me. It's not personal safety, I just don't want to be at the club during an incident or raid and I feel like their presence dramatically increases the likelihood of that.

Definitely mandatory valet parking. Not giving then any personal items. Dress codes that violate my normal attire.

OK, I'll ask. Why does the ID scan scare so many away. Granted, I'm single, so no SO to worry about. As far as I can tell, all the scan does (if they keep records for any length of time) is indicate you went into the business. Back when I was working, if I didn't want people to know I was at the strip club, it would just make sure I went to clubs 2-3 hours away from my local residence.

I have a friend to literally goes into strip clubs and maybe gets one or two dances from a regular every other time he goes in (at most). Mostly, he chats up the bartenders and a couple of dancers the whole time while occasionally tipping them for their time away from hunting the floor for dance opportunities. He obviously doesn't care if they scan his ID, since he pretty much treats strip clubs like any other local bar.

Another for me is the DJ who thinks I'm there to listen to them. Shut the fuck up except for announcing the girls on stage.

One local club has recently gone to an "AI" DJ, and it's NICE. Just the names and the occasional blurb about dances specials.

HANNA - I won't get my license scanned if they lie about the reason. Mario's Showplace just got xxxd out because when I asked why the bartender needed to scan the ID of a 68-year-old man in afternoon, management told me it was a law in Massachusetts that they had to scan, a fact I know due to my job to be 100% false (They have to verify) tells me they are selling the information. In a world where we are losing our most valuable right (privacy), I tell such establishments to fuck off.

Rock music
Cubatón
Bartenders and girls not charging the listed prices
Old or nasty looking girls

The ID part isn't a big deal. They delete the info. There are laws on how long they can store it.

I’ve never allowed a strip club to scan my I. D., I have asked them how they will protect my data, and not one single club has ever been able to give me an answer.

@Hannathedog79 - For me, the ID scan is a deal breaker because I'm of the belief that anything digital is forever, and you don't know what may come in the future.

Here's a hypothetical example. Call me crazy, but let's say you visit a club once on a Friday. It's not really your kind of place so you have a couple drinks, leave, and never go back. A month later, someone gets shot out in the parking lot. The shooter is arrested and it turns out the guy is a Friday regular. For the investigation, the authorities want to interview everyone who has visited the club on the last several Fridays, so they pull up the records of who's been scanned into the club. Last thing I fucking want is to be called as a witness in some shit that doesn't concern me.

Here's another. Now that weed is legal in NJ, dispensaries are popping up like McDonald's restaurants, but I sure as hell will never see the inside of one. I don't trust government, especially the liberal fuckwads in NJ. They fought like hell to change the perception of weed in order to get it legalized. Who's to say somewhere down the road they don't change their opinion back to "weed is bad" and then use it against you in some way? Can't qualify for certain jobs, can't purchase a firearm, increase your car insurance rates, etc. Fuck that, I'm not going on some list that's just waiting to be used against me. For my own personal little weed stash, I know a guy who knows a guy, and that works just fine for me.

I would also never do that DNA testing thing, Three and Me or whatever the fuck it's called. God forbid, if I ever get arrested, they'll take my DNA against my will. Nothing I can do. But no way would I voluntarily put my DNA in their data base.

I know in today's digital world, it's impossible to really live a private and mostly anonymous life. But the fuck if I'm going to make it any easier for them.

I don't smoke, but I actually like the smell of cigar smoke. It tells me I am in a man space, except for the women who take their clothes off. Keeps away the judgey women who do not take their clothes off.

Mrorange there are state laws or local ordinances that cover how long your info can be stored if you didnt do anything. It can be as short as a week. Its normal in corporate clubs now. However i wouldn't in a dive club depending on managements reputation

It's cool to hear everyone's perspectives on this!

Mandatory valet parking is usually another deal-breaker for me as well, although if I really wanted to visit such a club badly enough, I might see if I can somehow get around that part. As it is, I've always just avoided clubs with mandatory valet, or for that matter, any club that just can't offer me an acceptable parking situation...

Smoking is definitely a huge negative for me as well, and while I will sometimes tolerate it to some degree, I can see the day coming pretty soon where I will refuse to enter any club that allows indoor smoking...

@twentyfive pretty much nailed my thoughts about ID scanning. If you can't tell me how you will store and protect my information, then you ain't getting it!

@Muddy That's wild that a club wouldn't take cash! I'd have walked away as well!

@Dolfan It never ceases to amaze me how I'll sometimes be in a club that is pretty well kept in every way other than the bathroom, but then the bathroom itself is just too gross for words! I don't expect a club restroom to be like Buc-ee's, but at least give me something to use that doesn't make me want to change into a hazmat suit before entering! lol

ID scan is probably a deal breaker. The odds that they store it securely and temporarily are about 0. Considering the government's and tech industry's long history of ignoring privacy law, I'd be very wary.

The companies that make ID scanning tech are openly marketing selling customer profiles. Here's an example: guestban.com

It won't be long until these companies try to start selling this information for things like pre-employment background checks.

Also, even if the clubs and scanning companies are acting in good faith, the data still isn't safe: hospitalitynet.org
