Planning a trip to Hong Kong Nov 15 to 17. Newbie

This will be my first foreign trip outside the US. To be honest, I may have to delay this because in a few days I will be attempting to get a passport and not sure how long my state will take to accept birth certificate.

I'm a taking a flight to Tijuana. What concerns me, what do I do when I get there. Should I rent a car or is that too much hassle. I was leaning on just getting taxi to take me to Hong Kong. I watch a few Tijuana YouTubers talk about what to do and not do while in Tijuana. The general consensus is that everyone knows how to get to Hong Kong/ Adelitas.

I am just looking for some advice. I will use @Jax guide on common Spanish phrases. Is it worth staying in Tijuana or getting a hotel in the US. Is Hong Kong basically a Strip Club/brothel (that's my impression from the YouTube and the reviews ).

I also know that Mexico is a dangerous place and that I really shouldn't wander around unnecessarily. And that I should at least attempt to hide money.

You're cutting it close on getting a passport.

Get your passport. Don't bother renting a car... There's transportation available. Take the blue trolley down to the border at San Ysidro and walk across and show your passport to Mexican customs. Hopefully the Hong Kong Zona shuttle limo or van or Town Car will be readily available after you walk out of Mexican customs. I tip the driver $2 usually... I have even walked to the club from the border a number of times. The club is within two blocks west of the arch. It's about a mile walk.

Don't rent a car. Traffic is horrible. HK is a 10 minute cab ride from the border.

It looks like you're coming from Al. Suggest you fly into San Diego rather than Tijuana. Most TJ flights route you through Mexico City.

IMHO, HK's hotel, Hotel Cascadas is decent enough if you get an upgraded room. The basic rooms are great if you're just going to Ariba but, I wouldn't want to spend a couple of nights in one. That said, I've stayed in San Diego and taken the trolley a few times and just spent the evening in TJ. The down side is that customs on the return trip can be a long wait.

This article is a decent first timers guide. https://tuscl.net/article/60123. If you dig back through the Articles, you'll find several others.

Stay in Tijuana. Since you're just now getting a passport, I assume you don't have global entry, and without global entry, you could be facing 3, 4 hour lines to get back in to the US. You definitely don't want to be doing that every night.

I recommend if it's your first time, stay at Hotel Cascadas. It's easy and straightforward. The Rizo is also an option. You upside of either of those hotels is you can take bar girls from HK and BT to your room and don't have to pay for a short term room rental.

If you stay elsewhere in Tijuana it's unlikely (although is possible) that you can get a Bar Girl to come back to your room. You'll be stuck paying $40 / 40 minutes for a short term room rental in that case, and if you do a few arribas, it would be cheaper (and more convenient) just to rent a small single room at Cas or Rizo.

Hope that helps, let us know what other questions you have.

Thanks for the shout out. I need to drop a version 3 of that thing, I keep learning new phrases and bedroom jargon that would be useful there!
