I don't know, there's so many football players that even great ones are easily lost from memory. Most people probably don't even know who Joe Montana is today.

Yahtzee you make a good point. History has been rough on several aging football greats. I think, if they try to stay in public jobs, that can cause their on field accomplishments to be overshadowed by their current roles. There is a long life after playing football.
Terry Bradshaw was a great quarterback when I was a kid. When I see him on the Fox NFL show, I keep thinking - is that the same guy? He looks old, short, and not much like an athlete anymore. That’s a horribly harsh view, as he’s aged like a human does.
Frank Gifford was old even when I was a kid. Players of his era don’t get the appreciation they deserve. I think his accomplishments were overshadowed by a sex scandal as well.
In my view, TO was never a great of the game. I always saw him a more of a mercenary who was out for the money. So, I’m no TO fan.
My understanding is that T.O. had $$$ issues as many retired athletes seem to have - I also heard he had several children and child support is expensive - per Google T.O. has 4-kids which is not as many as some of these athletes have.
I agree with @yahtzee in that sex videos don't have the shock value they once had especially with T.O. having been out of the limelight for a good # of years - sex vids were probably a thing in the 90s and 2000s but social media has exploded since then where a lot of people share their lives online not to mention things like OnlyFans.
