I've been to HK many times in the past, but not once since the pandemic started, and now I'm planning my trip again next month. Now I'm a tiny Asian dude and I was wondering if it would be safe for me to travel there. With all the Asian hate crimes all over the US and across the world, I shit you not, I am actually quite scared and concerned. Should I be worried...?
"With all the Asian hate crimes all over the US and across the world, I shit you not, I am actually quite scared and concerned."
You probably shouldn't be. Because, according to your reviews, you were there 5 days days ago, went to HK and Adelitas, and survived to post here a few minutes ago.
"Should I be worried...?"
About your suspiciously selective amnesia? ... perhaps. About going to Tijuana when you're a tiny Asian dude? ... I don't know. You tell us. You were just there.
This is assuming, of course, that you're tiny, Asian, or ... you know ... a dude.
Wait, hold on. I need to eat a full serving of crow. I read the dates on your reviews incorrectly. Your three reviews were in 2018/2019 and not 2021. I'm used to people trolling here and I leapt when I should have looked closer.
Nope, it's all on me. It initially read like someone trolling for a political flamewar (as many do here) and I reacted too quickly. Again, it's all on me.
Good luck and stay safe on your travels. I hope to make it there someday just for the experience.
Oh no, I am actually quite concerned. I'm just on the fence still not knowing whether I should go next month or just wait a bit longer until the heat against Asians die down.. I really don't know. But my other head has been telling me to just fuck it and go lol
Damn it’s bullshit you should even have to ask this question at all but I understand, and sorry you even have to have this fear.
Once you get there are you going to stay at one of the adjacent hotels? For example the only time you’re really going to be out in public is traveling from the border to your hotel/HK/other adjacent clubs and back to the border?
yes, I will strictly just take a cab from the border to HK and stay within the strip. But even then, I am still fucking scared.. like what if I'm standing in a line at a taco stand and locals see me and try to start a shit.
@Mongoro, it's best to live (healthily) to fight another day. May be you can take a test trip to some other touristy parts of Tijuana and see how things go?
The last thing I want to do is give you a false sense of security, but my feeling on this is that you have more to fear stateside. If anything, it's likelier that you might get grief from gringo partyboys than the locals.
That block is one of the safest urban spots I know, and most if not all of the locals know better than to make trouble by attacking a tourist there (and thereby threatening the cash cow) without a good reason.

Good job on that Asian-hate/intimidation @CMI - I don't think you're helping the dude 😜
You have more to fear in LA or any major liberal city than in TJ - from the videos of attacks I've seen it's been blacks attacking Asians not whites nor Latinos
AFAIK there are a good # of Asians that visit TJ (I assume a lot come from Cali?) - from the hundreds of TJ reviews I've read over the years I've never read of someone being targeted for a specific reason.
I doubt anything would happen but if anything may happen just turn-on-the-jets and run back into the club.
@mongoro .. I definitely understand your concern. It’s unfortunate for all this hate in the world. I tell you what, I’m a 210# black dude and I will serve as your personal bodyguard in TJ. Just pay for my airfare from Atlanta to SD and I got ya.
Yeah - take Garfield84 w/ you - I've met him in person and he can def protect you - dude is def built like a body-builder and it's obvious he works out everyday - he's 210-lbs but only about 5'10" and huge muscles everywhere - he's built like a small-tank
@Mongoro, bro it sucks that you feel this way. Judging someone based on race, color of skin, etc is STUPID!!!
Now I am a firm believer of ‘gut instinct’. So if you feel a certain way, who am I to judge or sway left or right? Even at HK, do you!
So I just want to tell you what I observe. The latin culture is so diverse, but we all will say “chinito” to someone Asian. NOT derogatory, just like in CA a latin person is “Mexican”, FL is a “Cubano”, NY is “PR or DR”, etc. I’m ’negrito’ in PR or DR.
I think you’ll be ok, so much so that i would happily share a table with you at HK or any other bar, but remember that at zona norte the most important color is $
There's some animosity to East Asians in Mexico. People have lost decent jobs from factories moving to China. There are Japanese-run factories in Mexico, with a rep of shabby treatment of employees. Mexicans sure don't want to be judge based on their government, I can't see them judging East Asians based on anything an East Asian government has done.

I apologize.
Yea, I was like "What...? I left reviews couple days ago???" I thought my account got hacked LOL

The Zona Norte will still be there in a month, so you wait a month and feel safe when you go, no harm, no foul.

I went two days ago. Yea, it went fine lol. Maybe I was just overtly reacting idk. No trouble at all.
