Gambling and Strip Clubs

Tetradon
I'll act nicer if you'll act smarter.
In my mid 20s, I had a blast playing craps at Casino Niagara, then spending my winnings at Sundowner's.
In my late 20s, my perfect day involved an afternoon of blackjack at Mohegan Sun, followed by some Rhode Island T&A.
Gambling and strip clubs went together like peanut butter and jelly.
Now, I get nothing out of gambling and go right to the strip clubs. No idea why, the switch just flipped.

My question is: How many of you associate gambling with strip clubs? Does one make you crave the other? Which of you are "games of chance" aficionados in the first place?

100% - I also did your Niagara trip in my mid 20s. Warm up at Sundowner get finished off at Seductions. Eventually I ventured further north to Toronto, but missed the casino experience on those trips.

I LOVE Vegas but only play poker. When I discovered Detroit I started making a lot more trips there and less to Vegas. I called it the Vegas of the Midwest. I could drive, sometimes fly, fraction of the cost and I could leave anytime I wanted if I was driving. There were nights I’d pay cover, valet, tips and get out of a club in Detroit for under $200 finished off. In Vegas there were times I paid over $50 just for a cover charge and left with blue balls unless I talked some stripper into OTC.

Yes I crave both together because they always seem to go hand in hand. Wife is out of town on a weekend - go play poker somewhere during the day and go to a club at night. Usually I’m doing both, almost always doing at least one of them on a free alone weekend.

After I ski I want strippers. After I golf I want strippers. After I play poker I want strippers. Luckily I can get a torunament or cash game equal to any casino in my friend's garage right now.

I did the exact same thing back in the day. Over the years my gambling itch is greatly diminished. Probably because I had less money to waste back then. I know that sounds counterintuitive, but the mind of a gambler is not always logical. So If I could turn a hundo or two into $500, I could afford to really enjoy myself in the club. Nowadays I simply rather stop at the bank and skip the frustration of the casino all together. I do still play some poker now and then, and maybe an hour or two of table games when I'm on a vacation. And if I win, I often dump the profits into a hottie half my age at the strip club, it does bring back memories of the good old days.

^ I get that too , seems like when I was younger with less money to blow I was more likely to try to double or triple my cash my weakness was dice and the way I’d work it was I’d start at the blackjack table till I was up, then I’d take my winnings over to the craps table and swing for the fences, now it’s irrelevant even though I still play a little blackjack , nowadays most of my gambling is either poker or gin or golf with buddies and my strip club money is usually pocket change I generally have a grand or so in my pocket. Jes sayin.

When I was younger the casino paid for my strip club visits for sure. I played so much blackjack it was crazy, but when I got a better job with less consistent schedule I ditched the casino and just hit the club

Until the pandemic I still did the same thing. Although they began reducing the payout on blackjack so I don't play that as much any more, and nowadays Sundowner at night is too much of a hassle for a party of one (still can be good during the day). I still associate alcohol with both. Waiting impatiently for the border to reopen.

I have occasionally combined the two hobbies but I basically keep them separate for the most part. I use to go to the Detroit clubs after hitting the Windsor casinos. I also found a couple of decent clubs (Rustic Frog in New Albany and Concepts in Lawrenceburg) near the riverboat casinos in Indiana that I otherwise wouldn't have tried in the early 2000s when they were the closest legal gambling options to me. I try to keep them separate now because I enjoy them both and I don't want to risk running out of funds for one because I over indulged at the other.

While I am not as strict on my strip club budget as I used to be since I haven't been going as often I usually set my budget based on how my monthly bonuses have been at work. I have 30% of my bonus checks automatically deposited into a separate account and I (primarily) use that account for mongering.

I have a separate fund of money for my gambling that I keep in one of those cheap Walmart safes in the closet and I don't like to mix that money with the rest. I started doing that in my early 20s because at one point I got too deep into gambling and it was starting to affect my budget for more important things. Since then I decided that I would only set aside 10% of any bonus I receive at work for gambling. That way it can never cause me problems financially. Luckily it has been about 4 years since I have had to even put any new money into my gambling fund because it has stayed over $1k and I don't feel the need to add to it unless it drops below that.

I've always been a pretty-straight-laced guy - thus never got into any vices nor was I really tempted - never smoked a cigarette; never experimented with illegal drugs of any kind; and only drank socially every now and then and that was usually a drink or two during an outing - likewise I've always been straight-laced/conservative w.r.t. my $$$ thus gambling never appealed to me since I've always been a saver and careful w/ my $$$ by nature - also being a straight-laced-guy the often seemingly seedy atmosphere of casinos w/ all the smoking (at least back in the day), etc, did not appeal to me nor did it match my straight-laced personality (nightclubs/bar-hopping wasn't my thing either; I did it in my youth to a certain extent b/c it's part of the culture) - my only vice has always been women (plural).

My early strip club life was intertwined with my interest in poker. I'm too tired after working at my rental today to detail here but rest assured its a long sordid story worthy of article.

I don’t necessarily connect the two but if I’m in Vegas or AC I’m gambling and I’m without my SO, so there’s a good chance that I’ll hit a club. If I’m winning I’ll stay at the table and hit the club with a freer spend. If I’m losing and want to hit a club I may get up sooner so as to not totally blow the budget. That’s the extent of the connection for me.

I've never been much of a gambler. My last visit to a casino was around 2000 when my son and I spent 3 days in Memphis. During the day we drive down to Tunica MS to visit the 6 or 7 casinos there. My son mostly played black jack and I hit the machines. He lost and I hit a small jack pot. At night we hit the infamous Platinum Plus and stayed until closing. We decided that mon didn't need to know about the strip club.

Now this discussion has taken an interesting twist. Is going to a strip club with your kid weird or normal? I only have daughters so I don’t know what to think about this, but I would be totally weirded out to see my dad in a strip club.

I have played the video slot/poker machines inside of strip clubs when the stage was empty or the club got slow. In the past two years, I have left strip clubs with more money than I came in with after spending on the dancers and drinks. In states like Montana, South Dakota, North Dakota, and Wyoming, gambling and pussy go hand in hand like in an old Western. As I got older, I have shifted away from the casinos to thoroughbred and quarter horse racing. It is easier money and just like strip clubs, you have an edge if you are good at reading conformation and body type.

Interesting. I've never associated the two. And have gambled in Vegas, Niagra, Detroit. Probably because I'm a terrible gamer and never walked away from a table with fat pockets. Vegas is about maintaining 24/7 buzz and T&A. Detroit surprised me with the amount of casinos but the strip clubs were better. Dollar slots and Roulette are all I know.
