HK Prices Rising?

I had a look at the HK/Cascadas websites today to see if they were putting COVID info up (nothing yet) and noticed that the price for a VIP card is now $60 with the same benefits as before. I have a feeling that this won't be the only price jump in store... anyone hearing any different?

Yeah sorry world that’s America’s fault. Turns out when you flood the world with dollars they lose values. Maybe all the tightwads that convert to pesos here will be on to something when the USD:peso ratio becomes 1:10

I think it has more to do with CapEx and OpEx... the owners have sunk significant money into their remodels and the expansion into the east end of TJ. They now run four clubs plus four hotels.

Sounds like stripper economics. Everywhere else, when there are fewer customers, you lower prices to attract customers. In the stripper world, you raise prices under the theory that demand is inelastic. The first rule is that clubs and strippers deserve a certain level of income and customers must provide whatever is demanded.

@mark94: Agreed. I'm interested to see whether the people who run HK think that they can continue to unilaterally set the price levels or whether this represents an opportunity for the other clubs to undercut them and pull their business away. I know for a fact that if CC were to remodel their hotel (Jalos), I would look at staying there as a viable alternative to Cascadas if the price was right.

I'm staying at the hotel Ticuan on Revolucion in September. They have lowered their rates around 30%. You can get a room for $60 and a suite for $95. It is comparable to a mid-scale American hotel, includes breakfast and is significantly nicer (IMO) than Cascadas. The down side is that it is a 15 minute walk or 5 minute cab ride to Hong Kong.

Since I live on the east coast and work, I usually visit over a weekend. Frankly, HK is too damned crowded on weekends and I tend to visit other clubs in the Zona. Granted 8-10s are harder to find than HK but, they are there. Anyway, my two cents...

Which 4 clubs are you talking about? I only knew HK, CheVela’s, and tropical. There is another one?

Actually, another two, Siete de Copas Bar and La Cueva del Peludo. So my math was off. :-)

Not ideal, but truth be told, if we ever get back to the way things were in the mongering world before this shit happened, I'll be delighted and prepared to pay a little more for the pleasures of the flesh.
I never took it for granted, but losing it for several months, maybe longer, really makes you appreciate it more.

I was having the same thought as JAprufrock. I was thinking of some recent SC trips I passed on, and how I should have seized the moment before I had no choice in the matter, like now. Whenever this is over and done with, a trip to HK is definitely being prioritized.

I'm glad that I ended up going there later than usual this year, mid-March instead of February like I typically do... I'm just saving my sheckels right now for the next window of opportunity and trying to write a coherent article on the logistics of getting there and staying there...

I definitely see a (hopefully slight) rise in prices beyond the $10 increase in VIP membership, with the huge investment in renovations and expansion and the loss revenue from the Corona Virus crisis there will be little choice to raise prices.

Hopefully the prices rise only slightly, maybe $1 more for drinks, $5 more for short term rooms, etc.

Also, since HK is the lesder of the Zona Norte I doubt the other clubs will try to undecut HK to gain business, in fact it is mire likely AB & CC will follow HK's lead and raise prices too.

The prices for BGs to go arriba are determined by the BGs and thus it is more difficult to predict an increase, stagnant, or decrease in price, as competition amongst the BGs, the number of customers, and the BG's income threshold and expenses will set their respective arriba pricing.

Even if they do raise prices TJ mongering is a great value.
