I have had a few days in mid-December open up, and business for the year has pretty much wound down. I was thinking of going to TJ to check out Hong Kong, but with the caravan camped out at the border and all of the associated craziness, that is now out of the question. That's a real bummer because I'm unlikely to have any other time to take a trip there in the foreseeable future. I have now been thinking about a quick trip to Detroit, as I have developed a fondness for Flight Club and nearby clubs. But I guess it’s cold as a witch’s teat by now up north. I have also been mulling over a trip to central Florida. I like the Cocoa Beach area. Not much available there in the way of ITC extras, but the weather would be much nicer and OTC is pretty easy to come by. I also had a really good time during my last trip to Daytona. Hell, I even had a really good time during my last stay in Orlando, too. Not considering South Florida because I’ll be there in January. I am also thinking of going nowhere and just camping out at Follies since I live 10 minutes from there.
So, I’m asking the collective wisdom of TUSCL for advice: What am I overlooking? Any recommendations?

But I also think the problems at the border are not really that bad. Hong Kong is a remarkable place.

Going to TJ HK should be OK.
As long as you have your ducks in a row you should be able to go in and out without any problem.
0 Have a valid current passport and visa in your possession at all times the moment you decide to leave our country and enter another country.
1 you should get your visa in advance, is free if you are going to be there for a few days only (7 days) if you plan to be there longer you will have to pay a nominal fee depending on the length of stay. You can get the visa process with the help of any reputable travel agency.
2 you are going to another country and should behave as a good neighbor visiting another place/house/country respect their laws and rules and have your papers/documents/in your possession all the time, if any police officer or public servant ask for them you can show you are legal and you will be fine as long as you don’t overstay your visa time.
3 Do not drink, you are in unknown territory and need to be stone cold sober to deal with any situation and enjoy and remember all the nice things you will have access to; the weather is nice, the food is fresh and affordable (fantastic lobster fish steak shrimp etc) the girls are beautiful and nice. If you have time during the day there are a lot of nice places to visit and see, depending on the kind of activities you enjoy.
4 You teach people how to treat you, be courteous, discreet, friendly kind and act as gentleman and you will be treated as a gentleman.

Let's be real here, what's the chances they're going to close the border and you're stuck in TJ?
And don't worry about the lack of hot chicas. Many of them live here or nearby states just 4hrs away.
