Paranoid about checking into hotel rooms with local driver's license

Saturday, August 4, 2018 11:57 AM
Has anyone experienced problems checking into hotels with a local address on your driver's license? I've had a couple of lesser quality places tell me they were completely booked when there were hardly any cars in the parking lot, even though I'd only been there a few times, they were at least a month apart, and I was with the same girl each time. Obviously, there's no point coming back to these places. A couple mid-level hotels put me in a room directly next to the office, and that completely kills the vibe. I haven't had any problems at the higher end places, except for some dirty looks from the staff which I thought was uncalled for. I'm with the same girl each time, and though she's younger, other customers at the bar were clearly with working girls. I'm with someone who I know very well, and it shows. How do you guys handle these situations. I'm particularly interested in what to do when they give me a room directly next to the office. I'm generally not aware that they've done this until I've left the office and find the room.

Maybe don't have the girl standing next to you when you check in. OR at least have the girl dress down just a bit. If she's wearing a lot of make-up, skirt barely covering her ass and her tits are hanging out. Alarm bells are going off. If she looks like your daughter, or maybe your secretary, then no one is going to say anything.

    Just get a fake ID

Warrior15 - great advice, but these bases are already covered. For her to be my daughter I'd would have had to conceive her in high school, so that look isn't entirely ruled out, but it's a stretch. I always check in alone, but the places where I have problems are places where they've seen me before, though usually several months have passed. I feel like asking for a different room looks even more suspicious, unless I can find something wrong with the room. TCL - I think a fake ID would cause more alarm than help. Last time I checked it wasn't illegal to check into a hotel for sex. The girl comes in the same car as me, so it doesn't look like I dialed a hooker. But some of the rudeness may be due to the perception that I'm having an affair.

They don’t give a shit as long as you pay for the room.

"They don’t give a shit as long as you pay for the room." Then why do the only put me next to the office at places where they've seen me before? Perhaps they're bored and want to listen?

I've honestly never had any trouble at any hotel, ever, at least not that I can remember offhand. Most of the time the girl is standing next to me; I suppose I have, a few times, had her hang back and wait while I checked in. Are you sure you're not imagining it?

"Are you sure you're not imagining it?" I don't think so. If I am, she'd have to be imagining it to. Do you ever hang out at the bar with the girl or just head to the room?

Most of the time, we meet at a bar or restaurant near the place, have drinks and food, and then head to the hotel... I check in, and we head straight to the room. You're hanging out at the hotel bar... before you check in? After? And the hotels you go to, the hotel bar is within eyeshot of the front desk? Just trying to figure out what the hotel bar might have to do with it...

At check in ask for a room on an upper floor or towards the back. Tell them you're a light sleeper and dont like the noise from the lobby or people walking on the floor above you.

Book the room via an app or over the phone. Request a room not near the office. Or, ask for a room facing the river, or facing east, or whatever you need to say to get a room not near the office. Don't check in with the girl standing next to you. Don't give a shit about any dirty looks (some of which are probably imagined on your part). As long as you're not wrecking the room or disturbing other guests, they aren't going to make waves.

I’ve had the same issue with a local place saying they don’t have rooms on a slow weekday night. And I’ve been bothered when traveling to dance, even though I never had any men in my room they were watching me and gave me shit for random things like waiting in the front of the lobby and told me they “have problems with working girls”. I hear some get cutbacks for catching prostitution and drug deals idk if it’s true.. but I don’t think you are imagining things

I always have found that if I stayed with one brand of hotel and was a member of their "frequent flyer" program, the hotel bent over backwards to accommodate me. 90% of the time I use either a hotel in the Holiday Inn chain or the Hilton line. I'm platinum in both programs and get many perks.

The Hilton app lets you check in and pick the room on your phone. At some locations, the phone is the room key. No need to stop at the front desk.

I am assuming this isn't one of our new troll class. In forty years I have never had issues. There are some hotels that had problems with LE and will not give you a room if they think you are up to no good. They would rather lose the customer than their license. Call ahead and confirm a room first. They probably won't ask for too much information. "Hello, this is K, I need a room for the night. " Once they say yes, tell them you will be right there. They aren't going to suddenly rent out the room. If they ask for a credit card, I always tell them either that I am driving or that I don't feel comfortable giving it out on the phone. Don't act squirrely when you check in. Go in by yourself, bring an over night bag. check in. Ask for a better room if you don't like the one they gave you. Many motels try to give away the worst room as soon as they can and to someone they don't expect to see again. I learned that when I helped a company deploy property management software at various mom and pop motels and hotels. try to cultivate a local business. Once they know you are a steady customer that won't cause them trouble, nice tips help, you will find any problems you have disappear. You might even find you don't need to provide ID or Credit Card info any more.

If they put you next to the office, ask if they have a peep hole... You could also offer them the sloppy thirds...

Thanks for all the feedback so far. Subraman - to your question, I generally check in myself, we head up to the room for a few minutes, and then both go down to the bar. She always gets carded, I never do (same applies at restaurants). We've found that female staff is very accommodating to us, and the dirty looks generally come from males in the management positions. I've wondered if it's more a jealousy thing than anything else. Last time the male manager helping out behind the bar went out of his way to help other customers and ignore us, and the female bartender eventually gave us a free drink and thanked us for being so much fun. K - I tipped the bartender really well, but it's not her opinion (or position) I'm worried about. Who all do you tip at hotels? I've never tipped anyone except bar staff. If anything, I'm sitting at the bar with what at worst looks like a sugar baby. I've seen other customers come up to the bar themselves to order wine, and then take their drinks back to a couch where they are clearly enjoying the company of a whore. Other patrons at the bar will talk to us just like they'd talk to anyone else, and though we carry on with them just like we're regular people, the girl and I clearly have an age difference. When we're done the girl is clearly tipsy, but she's not drunk and I don't see anything inappropriate with our behavior.

And I suppose there's also the possibility that the male staff members have seen her dance, where this wouldn't apply to the female staff members . . .

You should tip housekeeping by leaving money when you leave.

I usually just find somebody who looks vaguely like me and steal their ID to use. I try not to kill them when I knock them out. People get upset about that for some reason.
  • question_anon
Of course, I do that as well, but can't imagine it has an impact on my experience. My thoughts are if I tip any staff who i'm dealing with other than the bartender it might look odd and draw unnecessary attention, like there's a reason why I need to grease them or something. Would you tip anyone other than housekeeping or bartenders?
  • Call.Me.Ishmael
Nope. I don't tip anyone (except housekeeping). If we're going to grab dinner and drinks, it's usually at a nearby bar or restaurant. I very occasionally get a quizzical look because of the age difference. Perhaps a smirk. But I don't care about that. I'm not sure why you're running into these issues. It's possible that you're giving off a nervous / guilty vibe.

Are you black by any chance - maybe they think you're her pimp - not saying that is what it is but our society is still not fully color-blind

I've rented too many to count with a local ID and I've never had a problem, not once. You're overthinking it. Next time just ask for a different room if it happens again.

Oh, and if you don't want "dirty looks" or other problems from hotel staff, then don't bring girls who are obviously p4p partners to the front desk with you.

Just tell them that you need to sleep off your drunk. Tell them that you are a “responsible” drunk and that you don’t drink and drive. Maybe they will have a change in respect for you. Lol

I've had a few question having a local addy on my license when checking in. I've come up with a cover story, I say my work sent my on the road for a long project so I rented out my house, when I come to town for meetings I just grab a room for a night or two and work pays me back. Simple. I still hate it though.

I don't recall ever getting any questions like that when I go to a local hotel. Mostly I get indifference and occasional amused looks with a rare look I assume is jealousy from the guy wishing he was with my date. Maybe I just don't notice because I really don't care. adopt that attitude. Just don't care what others think. Act natural when you check in. There are many reasons you might check in. Fight with the wife, work on your house, you plan on getting drunk, a night away from the kids so you can rest.

Questions about local address... Option A: House renovations. Option B: Mind your own business. Option C: Pick another hotel.

Why do they put you in a room next to the office? Because they have a peep hole! More to the point, why do you care? What's the worst that could happen. Maybe they have a camera and post the film on pornhub. As long as they don't start the porno with a picture of your driver's license it is all brilliant!

Check-in ahead of time. Don't act nervous or suspicious. If they ask what brings you to the hotel, tell them you have work being done at your house and the water and/or electricity is turned off. You could also say your job has put you in travel status for 12 months, so you got rid of your house and just get a hotel room the 2-3 days per month when you actually get back to your home area. Meet the girl somewhere off-site, then when you return to the hotel, enter through a side door. All hotels are rigged up with cameras, but they are not going to be checking the cameras unless something happens like a robbery or a domestic dispute happens with one of the other guests. It seems like alot of hotels require you to pass through the lobby/desk area to get between your room and the lounge, so that is why I'd say to meet off-site. If you are seeing working girls, then chances are other guys have also brought them to the same hotel, and the desk staff will start to recognize them.

In NC it's a big issue...they not only take you licence but also your tag number... if you've stayed more than three times in a month they reject you... To avoid the hassle I do one of two things... find a place that takes only cash for the room and no ID..usually they will ask double for the room but no questions asked Or What I do most often I drive a few towns over and discover that even though I'm still in my state I no lo get issue's

I've never had an issue yet. I find it odd that a local address would bring about questions. Usually, I take their questions as making small talk. It has varied a bit on check in, but I've usually checked in with the dancer beside me or she'll have a seat in the lobby while I check in. Once I reserved a room and i forget the exact detail, either smoking/non smoking or bed size and the guy at the desk brought it up. The dance starts talking about this or that and our honeymoon and in my head I'm like what the fuck are you thinking! Well, I assumed the guy must've looked at us a little crazy, but nonetheless we got a room. Note, I didn't know this dancer like a good friend, so I didn't necessarily speak off what she said with ease. I've never been placed by the lobby even when I've used a low end motel. If higher end I usually reserved the executive suite if it isn't ridiculous in price to a regular room. Usually the executive suite is on the top level.

I am surprised to hear that this goes on in the US. I am surprised that people put up with it. You can look at it this way, if your money is green, they should not be refusing you. And if the girl is with you, then that is all they need to know about her. I had read about stuff like this in Mexico, not accepting escorts, from David E. Stuart, but that is an entirely different kind of a society, and it was in 1970. SJG BAKER GURVITZ ARMY - Live 1975 - Extremely Good! [view link]

I agree with the idea of having a club membership for whatever hotel you're using. I stay at Hilton's a lot. Choose my room online my key is my phone, I never even go to the desk

I think that most of this thread is a function of theory and paranoia. You know what you are there for, so you project and assume that they may too. Truth be told, they have no idea. Your house could be getting work, your wife could have thrown you out, etc., etc. You also assume that they would care even if they did know, but in my experience the lower end ones don't give a fuck (like Choice Hotels, lower end Wyndham and similar types). Most of the higher end ones don't either, though I find it better not to throw it in their faces. About the only place in this country I have ever run into any types of issues re: guests is NYC. Some of the lower-end hotels in places like Queens even put up signs about additional overnight guests. But outside of that one city, I have never had an issue anywhere, including the ones in places close to where I live. But if you are really that concerned, then shop around until you find ones that seem to be cool with it. I have a couple of go-to places locally and they know exactly what is going on, especially when I am checking in at 10:30 with a girl in the car right outside the door and have done the same several times before. Over time I've learned that these places are particularly easy to deal with (quick check-in, no odd looks or hassles, etc.). I had a place like that when I lived up north too and I used to bring the girls right to the front desk when I checked in.
