When/why did fat pillow-like assessment become the mainstream ideal? Did "Baby Got Back" have that much of an influence?
Don't get me wrong, I like a little somethin' somethin' to grab, but I subscribe to the "more than a handful is too much" mantra. I don't find the big bubble attractive (for the most part, some pull it off well) and find the soft pillow butts undesirable.

It's been a thing for a good 15+ years, hasn't it? Obviously, one song did not cause all of this. But you ARE onto something -- this IS a case of urban tastes going mainstream, just like rap. Or, as the famous line goes: "The main difference between a black woman and a white woman is, if a black woman asks you if her ass looks fat, you say YES".
As an ass man, this has all been a huge bummer. Previously, the trend was that most strippers were trying to make their ass smaller. Now, an enormous number are trying to make their ass bigger, and don't even get me started on how universally atrocious and ridiculous ass implants invariably look.
I'm not sure what to think of it as a trend. Here to stay, like hip hop? Change again in 10 years? It doesn't seem as if giant asses have caught on in most fashion modeling, except for specifically urban brands, so that particular industry is sticking to their traditional model of beauty, so far.
I find big pillow asses a turn off. I like my girls with a well proportioned body somewhere between a spinner and a pillow ass. I also hate twerking, booty popping, and booty clapping. I think the fashion industry blowing up and being dominated by gay men fashion designers played a part in promoting a woman's ideal look as too thin and skinny, more like a 12 year old boy look. This has dominated the modern era, coupled with an emphasis on losing weight to be more healthy.
And only now has the trend been reverting back to "normal", where a little bigger is a fine look for women and we also see fuller figured fashion models. If you look at old statues of Aphrodite, the goddess of love, some of them depict her as plump. Also look at the beauties of around the 1960s - Marilyn Monroe, Betty Paige, Jane Mansfield - these are fuller figured women as compared to the 80s to the turn of the century - Twiggy, Giselle are examples. Only recently have bigger models like Kate Upton become more mainstream (again).
So in part I blame gay men fashion designers changing the narrative of what a beautiful woman should be shaped like. It's taking years to undo!
