In Drew Carey's book 'Dirty Jokes and Beer, Stories Fot The Unrefined', the first sentence in the book says (and I paraphrase) to never pay more than $20 for a lapdance, if you do you will ruin it for the rest of us!
It's funny about that. The very first time I went to a strip club that had lap dances, they were $5/dance. Literally, by my very next trip, they'd gone up to $10/dance. And within the space of just a couple of years, they were $20/dance. Literally, $5/dance to $20/dance in the space of a couple years. I remember kicking myself for not discovering lap dances sooner and taking advantage of the $5 dances for all those years. Anyway, after going up 300% in 2 years, it's been stuck like that decades later ...thank you strippers!!!!
"Are you suggesting that $20 is too low? If so stay outta my favorite club. I'm paying $10 there and refuse to pay more than $20 at any other club."
Agree! Cleveland area dances are $10-$30, i don't like paying more than $10 but have paid $20 a few times. Akron area they're $5. Problem is it's harder to find a decent looking dancer in the Akron area.
Ya, there are clubs here who have tried >$20, and they ended up either going back, or being empty.
A couple of the clubs pulled a fast one: they kept $20 dances, but mandated them air dances, and had the bouncers enforce this -- that is, if he sees the girl touch you or vice versa, he charges HER for a touch dance, which she gets to find out at the end of her shift. In the meantime, the old $20 touch air dances, are now 2 for $60. My response: I still go to those clubs, but don't do any type of lap dance anymore, not $20, not 2fer$60. I still VIP dances, but the extra money I used to spend for lappers, I don't do anymore. Haven't done a lap dance in those clubs in many years.
Not supporting higher prices just wondering how long 20 has been the norm I balk at higher prices I really hate it when a dancer tries a 20 for air but 30 for touching up sale I notice the bigger cities girls have been pushing for more money
Personally, I started to see $20 dances in the late 1990s early 2000s. $15/dance was the standard price I used to pay '95-03. Around here dances are still $10-15/dance.
Song length had shortened though. We used to get 4-5 minutes a song. Now it's 2.5 minutes to 3.5 minutes a song. So they "get 'ya there!" :P
I was confused by your opening post, too. It made it sound like you were surprised the dancers have not gotten inflation adjusted raises since 1997. I know after I returned back in 2015 I was surprised to see dances were the same price as as they were 15-20 earlier. I would have expected dances to go up like everything else. Seems like they are stuck like most of the middle class -- squeezed by competition. Oh well, life is hard.
In the 60's, I was too young to even try to get into a strip club. I was in his the school until 1970 and I was having a lot of fun with my female friends at school. Back on the football field at night, was a place to do whatever we wanted. When I started clubbing in 1977-1978 I think dances were $5 or $10. Too long ago to remember accurately. In the 90's dances were $10 and extras started happening in Detroit. Now in the lowest tier clubs they are $20 and if you go to The Penthouse Club, The Flight Club, or other higher end clubs it's $25. Florida clubs I've been to are either $20 or $25.
I started strip clubbing in Boston where it was $1 tips on stage, or on Sundays a $20.00 handjob. Later in time the Inner Room cabaret was $6.00 a dance up until the mid 90's when it went to $10. One club around here does 2/30 topless; another 20 per dance fully nude and most are $25.00. Dances range from 3:15 to 4:00 minutes. The best deal was providence before the CR's because you were part of the "tip parade" like in NJ, except that $1 bought you a full contact mini-dance.
I grew-up in Miami - I turned 21 in 1991 and did a bit of SCing in the 1990s but very sparingly, from what I recall topless lap-dances were $20 back then.
In the 2000s I lived in Dallas where topless lap-dances were $20 w/ the BYOB places having $20 nude-dances - I think Dallas still currently mostly has $20 topless but BYOB places offering nude may often charge $30 for nude (& perhaps $20 for topless) .
At some point in the 2000s (IDK when) most South-FL clubs went from $20, to $25, topless LDs w/ the dancer giving the house $5 of every dance (basically the dancer still gets $20 but now the house basically imposes a $5/dance tax that they get from you via the dancer, pretty slick).
Perhaps it may change w/ all the dancer contractor lawsuits going-around, but AFAIK it was mostly the clubs that set the dance prices , as far as some clubs having the dance prices posted on the wall.
Some markets/clubs may be able to bear $30+ LDs, but that would probably price-out many avg joes that feel SCs are too-big a money-pit already - hell even at $20 or $25 in most clubs I see dancers having to hustle to sell them , it's not as if it was like they were giving them away at $20 in terms of being constantly in demand - and these days SCs hwve more competition for the perv dollar from free online porn to C
cam-sites to online escort sites to sugar daddy sites to non-P4P hookup sites.
When I started the hobby in 1994, dances were always $10 at the two clubs I visited most, and I seldom spent more than that until about 10 years ago. Over the years the cost of a lap dance has gone up to $15 and $20 at these two clubs and at most others in Illinois/Indiana. Now the only places where I can still find $10 lappers are the Hip Hugger in Kokomo (always) and a few clubs in Indy such as Babes and Harem House (on Tuesdays only).
Now I'm used to spending $20 for a dance, though I buy fewer at $20 than I did at $10. On rare occasions I've paid $30 for a nude lap dance at Jimmy's, Club O, or Club 390 in the south suburbs of Chicago, but they are rarely worth it.
Around 2008, I visited a couple of "on island" Montreal Clubs that were still charging $5 a dance (topless only) and three more that had just raised their prices to $10 (at the time the US dollar and the Canadian dollar were about par). In every case on-island, the dancer offered no more than a little stick shifting, no extras (though OTC was avail).
The off-island clubs were a very different story. Dance prices were usually quoted based on the extra services you wanted, BJ, FS, or combo.
Our dances here in Detroit have been topless for years. There was a all nude club downriver with no alcohol. I haven't been there in a long time so I don't know if it is still open. Back in the 90's you could get a lapdance at your table for $10. Great ones, too. I nutted a lot. Now, it's higher as I noted before.
Nude dance prices here run the gamut from a "4 for$40" special at Bliss (COI) all the way up to $51 each at Bare Elegance after 7pm. And of course everything in between.
Gotta love LA!
Hell, all you guys are getting away cheap. Most Mid-Atlantic clubs from Baltimore south to Raleigh have gone to what seems to be a $10/minute scale, with one dance (song cut at three minutes) being $30 (topless or pasties), with occasional 2-for-1's with lap dance police on patrol. 30 min in a VIP room (again topless) now is up around $300. Sacramento seems to be the last reasonable place, with $20 or $30 laps getting you around 5 minutes of action, the girl with no top and allowing you to sample a bit of her other treasure as well. Interestingly the 2 for $60 in SFO got me 10 minutes of action but it's not topless.
