Naah, lend a helping hand to the homeless. I know some of them can be more than annoying, but they are people needing our help. It's the Christmas season, give to the associations that house and feed the homeless.
There was a stripper I was very good friends with when we would go out she would always give panhandlers money, not much just a few dollars. I would get annoyed not becaus she would ask me for money to give them, she always gave from her own pocket but because even though I donate to many causes I don't like panhandlers. Anyway long story short she volunteered at a homeless shelter 2 days a month and always on Thanksgiving day she spent the day at the shelter cooking and serving meals. We were very good friends and still are but that was her way of giving back.
Brilliant answers both from both vincemichaels and twentyfive! I definitely want to help the homeless. ;)
On a slightly more serious note, there are problems with both a strip club and a homeless shelter in that they bring associated activity that many people (including myself) wouldn't want in their backyard.
There would actually be a simple solution for strip clubs, which would be for the local government to say "what goes on inside your club is your business, but don't let anything that can decrease property values spill over to the outside". I bet clubs would put up tasteful exteriors and police themselves keeping unseemly activities out of the parking lot if they knew the city would leave them alone in return.
Homeless shelters are actually harder, since the homeless population includes a lot of people who need mental health services and really can't help themselves. But as a society we still need to do our best to help them all year long. ;)
I live in a suburb of Atlanta. In this county there are no adult businesses and probably won't be in my lifetime but planning ahead the county set up 4 unincorporated areas where they could be located. There are no homeless people hanging around here. No reason to.
