I have thought about this constantly since my entry to the hobby. My preference is the action club scene and this is much more available in US than in Canada. Why? It seems to me that Canada is much more liberal in laws dealing with personal behaviour - gay marriage, prostitution, abortion, etc. than US. We are a much more conservative country in the approach to public spending and government deficits. But, really, one could not find two more similar countries anywhere else in the world. Any thoughts on why this is so? I am perplexed.
Lots of similarities in culture, music, etc. Both countries started at the same time and had the same parent country (England).
However, if you really did look closer, you'd see that in Asia, a number of countries (i.e. Vietnam, Cambodia, etc.) are as similar to China as the US/Canada are.
Also consider that German is the official language of twelve countries, including Germany. When the anschluss happened in Austria in 1938, lots of Austrians cheered it. In 1964, during the filming of the Sound of Music, Austrians were less than happy about seeing the swastika again, but Hollywood threatened to use 1938 footage of Austrians cheering the incoming nazis.
It's because we Americans are enlightened enough to prefer football over hockey.
Or, I do not think the difference is as great as you may think. SC experiences appear to be regional. We have conservative and liberal regions here in the US just as you do in Canada.
Tittyfan, except for the *truly* enlightened among us Americans who prefer lacrosse. Now *there's* a manly sport. Missile weapons and minimal wussy armor.
Contrary to popular belief hockey is not Canada's designated national sport. That honour goes to lacrosse. Is there a better name anywhere in sports than New Westminster Salmonbellies?
I can see that this thread is going nowhere if I am also participating in the hijacking.
Art, I agree with tx. It is a regional thing. After all Canada does have two clubs in the TUSCL top 10. East appears to be better than west in both Canada and the U.S. A population thing?
In an effort to stay on point, Art is correct in that the level of contact in American and Canadian SC's could not be more different. In Calgary, for example, there is absolutely NO contact. Is there any SC in the U.S. where the dancer and customer cannot touch?
But as mentioned, the rest of the Canadian culture is more permissive. At "French Maid" in Calgary, you can't touch a dancer but on the sidewalk outside the club, glamorously dressed prostitutes are readily available, with apparent permission from the city government.
In fact, I saw a city service truck stop near a group of working ladies. I thought maybe an effort was underway to convince these girls to get off the streets. On the contrary, the city truck delivered snacks and blankets to ensure that the girls were adequately warm on a cold Canadian night.
Back in the '80s, the heyday of Jasons in Windsor, Ontario, the competition between the Detroit and Windsor clubs was intense. All nude but no touch in Canada. LD but topless only in Detroit. Escort services in Windsor. "Take out" in Detroit on the QT. As Detroit clubs moved to extras and FS, Windsor began to drop off. There are some going accross the border, but security checks, currency exchange and limited contact have dampened enthusiasm for the once vaunted "Windsor Ballet (sp?)"
Its really rather simple. Canada got a healthy dose of French Influence and New England got a bunch of Puritans. That was just enough to change the national attitude about government being involved in mandating personal morality.
"My preference is the action club scene and this is much more available in US than in Canada. Why?"
I don't exactly know what you mean by "action club scene", but (besides the prostitution laws being significantly different) I haven't seen much of a real difference between strip clubs in Canada vs. the USA.

"Both countries started at the same time and had the same parent country (England)."
Tell that to Quebec.

"East appears to be better than west in both Canada and the U.S. A population thing?"
Not really. It seems to be more of a difference in culture from west (more "conservative") to east (more "liberal"), and those terms have at least slightly different political meanings in Canada as opposed to in the USA.

"Is there any SC in the U.S. where the dancer and customer cannot touch?"
Ummmm, yea...try any of the strip clubs in NH & a bunch of them in parts of MA to start out. Never heard of air dances?

This reminds me of one of my first times in Montreal. An American friend of mine & I were standing at the corner of Ste-Catherine West & Saint Laurent well after midnight. The area was swarming with street prostitutes & pimps that were ducking in and out of alleyways & cars to "take care of business". There was a large group of kids walking down the street openly smoking weed (the smell was overwhelming), and one guy was tagging the hell out of the front of a closed business front. The tagger had a whole setup of various spraypaint cans & even a stool to help him reach the higher spots on the storefront. There was also a car that was double-parked in front of one of the local parking lot entrances.
Up onto to this scene rolls a Montreal police car, and who did they target? The car that was double-parked! They flashed their lights at him, bleeped their siren a few times, got him to move along, and then continued on down the street.
To this, I said out loud, "What does someone have to do to get arrested in this town?!", and my friend laughed.
Chicago, Portland, Columbus, and whatever city has high suicide rates (Seattle post Rick's?)
That's pretty funny, and a bit alarming. In Houston, it's "touch and be touched". I've found this to be true at clubs in Florida, California and even Georgia.
There's clubs at both ends od the spectrum here in Louisville, from the "keep your hands under your ass and off me, or the bouncer will bounce you all the way to the door" variety, all the way over to "what do you mean you don't want to fuck" kind.
Columbus is so pathetic right now you can no longer get boobs stuck in your face for a $1 at the stage. They now just shake their ass or dance in front of you but NO contact. The dances are still YMMV. Now I will not get a lap dance from a dancer I have not tried yet unless she comes over with some good sales technique like some stick shifting or sits on my lap and is fine with me touching her.
Tories deny they considered putting escort, stripper jobs on job bank website
OTTAWA - The federal Tories are flatly denying that they are considering listing job vacancies for escorts and strippers on the federal job bank.
The Toronto Star reported today that a draft memo from the federal Human Resources Department said job vacancies for exotic dancers and escorts are now acceptable for posting on the federally housed, but provincially run job bank website.
But a spokesman for Human Resources Minister Diane Finley calls the story "completely and utterly false."
That's good because Ontario training minister John Milloy says he wasn't going to allow vacancies for these jobs to be posted on the provincial job bank, no matter what Ottawa thought.
He says he won't suggest to new graduates and laid-off workers that they should apply for jobs as strippers.
Finley's spokesman Ryan Sparrow says the federal government would never have approved listing such jobs.
"The 'draft note' cited by the reporter has not been seen by the minister's office, nor would it ever have been a policy under consideration by our government,'' Sparrow said in an email.

I agree with your comments. My daughter plays lacrosse. It is a great sport.

DC (where I work) plus Manchester, NH and Orlando, FL, two cities I travel to regularly for work. Just my luck!
Lots of places in the US. Touching, pasties, liquor are all subject to local laws.

Something about the south, maybe..
