Is this good news or bad for Tampa SC's ? The last GOP Convention in Houston was in 1992. I actually was way too busy then to know about the impact on the clubs.

To have either party in town generates foot traffic = good. Likely much smarter move for the GOP (Florida being a swing state the past few elections) than Texas in '92 (as Texas has gone solidly for the Republicans in recent years.)

In my experience, coventions and major sporting events are to be avoided. The place gets packed with dancers from all over hoping to make a killing. Prices go up. ROBS are prevelant. When the Masters was on in Augusta GA, the reviews for my favorite club in Columbia took a beating. High prices and low mileage killed it.

The Arnold Classic was recently in Columbus, OH. It is the second largest event hosted by Columbus. I went to Dreamgirls and it was so packed that I had to stand. I did get lucky though and got a high mileage lap dance...afterwards though her upsell to the VIP was too strong and I had to bail.
The columbus clubs promoted themselves like crazy on the radio and most offered free admission with your ticket stub. Dreamgirls also included a free drink ticket.

It seems when big events hit town, prices for cover, drinks and dances get jacked up, too. Not good.

Yeah, the two weeks of Derby Festival around here are like that. Higher prices, lower mileage, and heightened police presence means extras are scarcer. Not to mention the girls that are making as much money in one day as they would in any other entire normal weekend, without needing to put out.

Joe Redner, owner of Tampa's legendary Mons Venus, 2040 N. Dale Mabry Highway, says never mind that the GOP has pitched itself as the party of family values.

"Washington, D.C., per capita, sells more bondage leather than any place else in the world," said Redner, a perennial candidate for local office who last ran as a Democrat. "Those people are kinky."

Redner expects a windfall when the convention arrives in August 2012, adding, "The Republicans are so religious because they have so much to be guilty about."

Oh yeah. Everybody's going to hit Mons Venus. It's world famous. Joe will make a killing. The place is already usually SRO on the weekend nights, so it'll be crazy.

Escorts will do better. I expect to see a LOT of new Craiglist ads, and I'm sure the agencies will have lots of new escorts.

Did having the GOP National Convention in MN have a positive impact on the local strip club scene? I would suspect that in this day & age that cities would be wary of the wide variety of protests that come at each National Convention of either Party.

"Likely much smarter move for the GOP (Florida being a swing state the past few elections) than Texas in '92 (as Texas has gone solidly for the Republicans in recent years.)"

It doesn't really matter where the National Conventions are held IMO. The GOP didn't win MN in 2008, NY in 2004, PA in 2000, and CA in 1996. The Dems didn't win GA in 1988, CA in 1984, or NY in 1980. I could go on & on...
