Stripper Clothes

Every club has a dress code, usually to comply with state law, although there are some clubs that pretend to be upscale and have stricter dress codes. These clubs usually want their dancers to wear ugly long "gowns", much to the perplexity of customers. Customers often want to know why a stripper is wearing what is essentially a slutty prom dress made out of spandex, rather than what you normally see strippers in, something closer to a bikini. Sometimes you have clubs that require short dresses rather than long ones, or have some other weird rule but the average club in America bases the dress code on whatever the state says is okay. Honestly, if the state said it was okay to walk around naked, these clubs would allow it. Usually, there's some leniency involved, and whatever rules are in place are bended. In my current club, we get nude on stage, but have to be wearing at least a bra and thong on the floor (the area where all the patrons sit). The thong is supposed to be at least an inch wide on all sides, but this is the most frequently broken rule and girls wear gstrings anyway. Heels are also required at every club, with five inches usually being the minimum size heel you can wear.
The clothes are made specifically for strippers, and although expensive they are honestly the best clothes to dance in. The are usually made of bathing suit material or at least have some kind of spandex in them. The fabric looks great on stage, and they're easy to remove. Often there is someone selling these clothes in the dressing room. Average prices are usually:
5-10 dollars for a garter (not all clubs use these, mine does, because patrons can put cash directly in your garter)
10-12 dollars for a thong, about the same for a pair of fishnets or other type of socks, although really elaborate socks will run up to 20$.
15$ for a bikini top.
30$ - 60$ for a matching bikini and shorts or skirt set.
50$ + for a short dress
100$+ for a long dress
Shoes are usually Pleaser brand (anything else is uncomfortable) and start at 50$ but usually run more in the 60-65$ range.
These are just the average prices, in a larger city they might be a bit higher. On the internet you can find these things for much cheaper, of course, but with all the disadvantages of buying clothes online (paying shipping, waiting for it, not trying it on etc).
In addition, the clothes become worn out fast. You're dancing and running around in them all night, rolling around on a dirty stage, grinding on customers (lol), climbing up poles and generally getting sweaty like you're working out. They get pulled, stretched, spilled on, saturated with smoke, sweated in...so they must be washed frequently. Some clubs require you change outfits three times a night or so, some girls just do this anyway.
All these little outfits add up, and over my years dancing, I've easily spent at thousands on clothes and shoes.
I prefer simple outfits like a bikini, thong, booty shorts, knee highs, and my platforms and I like to wear colors that glow, because I think it looks pretty. I also occasionally wear schoolgirl-esqe outfits or a lacy dress. I try to avoid fishnets, things with too many ties or anything remotely complicated to take off. But that's just my personal preference, and what I find works for me.
The bottom line is, like any field of work, strippers have to buy work clothes. Like a businessman needs a suit, or a nurse needs scrubs, a stripper needs heels and thongs. But it's even more important for strippers to look good, and if your clothes don't suit your body, then it can seriously affect your income.
Men, if you want to do something sweet for a favorite stripper, buy her some outfits and shoes. Just make sure to get them from an actual stripper clothing store, and the shoes are pleaser or a similar brand. Most stripper clothes are one size fits all, or come in small or large (basically how big your boobs and ass are).
It's true that strippers mostly want cold hard cash, but we do have to spend a portion of that cash on the outfits we wear to look good for our customers. If you have strippers you see on the regular, consider buying some cute outfits for her. You can buy clothes you want to see her in, especially if you particularly like some certain style. Just remember its not a way to actually pay a stripper, its just a nice gift for one.
Girls, put an effort into your outfits and develop a style that helps you stand out. Remember what men like is different than what women like. You're there to be sexy, not to impress your girlfriends. Men are not going to like something because its trendy, they like something because it makes your ass look amazing. Know what looks good on you, and get comfortable wearing it. Even if you only wear sweatpants and flannels outside of the club, remember you're a professional-- and it pays to look like it.

It's turned out that every woman I've ever dated and every dancer whose company I've enjoyed with on a long term basis has been an accomplished seamstress. (Two of the latter are now designers in the local garment /athletic gear industry)
A couple of questions for you. Let's say a guy does want to buy some clothing for his favorite dancer. Are the clothes sold in adult stores of good quality, or are they intended for occasional at-home play? Also, I'd be afraid of buying something that just didn't work for her. Maybe it's a style that's not comfortable or it's something she just hates. Any suggestions?
I must say, I really like Corvus' idea of having the dancer personally model the outfits.
@corvus- attaboy!
Where as I have known stripper that buy from the seller in the dressing room, most I have danced with buy them at a reasonably priced retail store. Target comes to mind.
They will pay $5 to $10 for a pair of panties, and look fine in them, since panties come in sizes, they can find one that fits.
Also I have been told, since they can cost 5 times less, but almost always wear-out as fast, they can save a bunch of $, and have many outfits to pick from.
I was at a club that allowed the girls to wear sexy standard high heals. That looked very nice.
I also remember a small town club that let the girls wear what shoe they wanted, except clunky sneakers.
My first favorite dancer would sew most of her own clothes and she would sew outfits for some of the dancers she worked with. I always liked her sense of style, although she did have some other stuff she didn't make. I'm frankly surprised I haven't met more, or at least more who would talk about it. Then again, I'm inclined to believe a disproportionate number of current dancers get their outfits from Walmart, with some who get them from the local porn shop, all of which nowadays seem to have a stripper clothing section.
