@NiceSpice
Going into certain places is a different matter but at midnight in Richmond I wouldn't really feel safe walking the streets anywhere. Not even in the "nice areas." Its not like its dangerous to visit a certain bar in Richmond at midnight. You're probably relatively safe in the nightlife section of Richmond at midnight but that's literally it. I'd say around 10PM or so, almost everywhere in Richmond becomes a little dangerous. And even in the nightlife section, you have to park in some sketchy places to get there.
Thankfully, I don't actually live in the city itself. I live in the metro area and the metro area is really safe. Even the most dangerous areas of my county are not really that bad. The city, however, is an entirely different story. Richmond has a pretty high crime rate.

How low has your attention span got to be that you can't read a few paragraphs? I'll admit that some of my posts really are long. But nothing I've posted in this thread is long. And quite frankly, who cares if this thread gets "threadjacked?" The only purpose of this thread was to say so and so was an asshole. Its not like I derailed a important conversation. Did you want to see more "you're an asshole, "no you're an "asshole?" Going off topic is improving its quality.
@NiceSpice
I think it'd be really cool to go to Shanghai, Hong Kong, and Guangzhou. I think Beijing would be kind of interesting but I really love the architecture and futuristic look of those cities.

How are we exceptional? The America is #1 crowd never seems to provide a real answer to this. Just a blind sense of patriotism. There are countries with a poverty rate of 5% compared to our 12.5%. Most cities across Europe you can walk the streets in the night time and feel perfectly safe because the violent crime rate there is between 3-4 times lower than ours whereas a lot of American cities are really dangerous at night to just walk around in. In Rome though, for example, my family explored the city at midnight and felt perfectly fine. No gangs of thugs and there was lots of people out still eating and going places. If you were to walk around Richmond at midnight you'd probably get shanked. We've got some of the most draconian laws on the books compared to other democratic countries and the largest prison population in the world.

That being said, if you compare us to historical societies, then yes, the modern age is amazing.
Compare us to other modern countries, and we become better than the average but I don't know if I'd place us in the top 10 or even top 20 countries in the world.

I don't think the United States is really amazing. We're doing good for the most part if you compare us on an international stage. We're certainly doing better than all of Africa and pretty much all of Asia. After that, it starts to get murky, we're definitely doing better than Venezuela and Russia for example, but are we doing better than the Netherlands or Argentina? Idk about that.
To be amazing we'd have to be truly exceptional, and I don't think we really are. Plenty of countries have lower rates of poverty than we do, lots of countries have significantly lower rates of violent crime. Our government is so stuffy it actually employs undercover agents to do what basically amount to sting operations on liquor stores to see if they are selling to underage customers or on prostitutes if they dare to sell sex. Our politicians are completely out of touch with the average voter according to pretty much everybody across the political spectrum. Our media has become a terrifying lynch mob that ruins people's lives to serve their own agendas. Politics are becoming so divisive now that it is sparking mass shootings, real hatred, and violence.
With all these problems, its really difficult to say we're "amazing."

Basically I think the obsession some guys here have with TJ is a form of escapism. But its wanting to escape from the social pressures of US society entirely not just wanting to visit hookers.
The thing is though, TJHK is not really Mexico. Its a place carved out that happens to be geographically placed in Mexico for American and international tourists to bring money to Mexico. Saying Mexico is amazing based on a brothel is like saying that the United States is amazing because you went to a strip club and met some great girls there.

Its not racist to just point out facts. It would only be racist if Dugan had said that Mexicans are biologically inferior in some way to white people. If he had said all Mexicans are criminals, that would fall under prejudice and xenophobia for sure and maybe racism. But simply pointing out that the tap water isn't safe to drink when that is a fact is not racist and certainly does not warrant the kind of rage that we are seeing here.
Also, I see a lot more prejudice in Countryman's comments towards people from the Northeast than Dugan's comments towards Mexico.
I think part of this is just that some men feel so suffocated by extremist feminism in the US basically running the country now that TJ is the only place they've ever been where they feel that you're not on trial 24/7 for being a guy. Meanwhile at TJ they find girls that they feel accept them and don't judge them. Personally though, it seems to me that most US strip clubs provide a haven as well just not nearly as good of one as TJ does.

Why is it always up to guys to make a move? Girls are the ones who are least likely to get rejected and talk all the time about how so and so guy was creepy, they should do it. It's either get called a pansy or get called creepy and I'd much rather be considered a pansy than be considered creepy.

^I didn't realize that when I first joined either. The longer I stay though the more I realize how many people here are basically 40 to 50 year old fratty dudebros.
But thankfully there's enough quality posters to balance them out.

There really is no excuse for physical violence just because of what somebody said over the internet. This is getting way out of hand.

There's actually barely any information that gets out of Mexico on cartel activities unless you narrow your search down to really local areas. Mexico is one of the most dangerous countries for journalists alongside Syria and Iraq so there's a lot of stuff going on that we don't know about.

People who are too direct and forward about trying to have sex with somebody, be they male or female, are off putting and sound vulgar. Whereas somebody who tries to hide their feelings or acts shy and embarrassed about them is cute.

Well that would be a solution for American tourists but its not going to help the Mexicans with their drug cartel problem.

“The more a person needs to be right, the less certain he is...”
When ever did Thomas Jefferson voice support specifically for the reign of terror? That sounds extremely out of character for him. Yes he was a big supporter of overthrowing the monarchy but I've never seen anything to suggest he thought the reign of terror was a good thing.
No, the revolutionary government was more violent. Some historians have compared their actions in Vendee to an ideological genocide. Although this is controversial.
Ultimately though, placing all the tax burden on France's peasantry during the century before being overthrown probably was more indirectly violent though in that a lot more French peasants starved to death over the course of time as a result of their policies than were directly killed by the revolutionary government. But the revolutionary government from 1792-1799 was honestly more ruthless than the monarchy was in terms of shooting civilians, drowning them, and chopping off heads.
Robespierre was a hypocrite is what it amounted to. You can't pretend to be a supporter of liberty and democracy while ordering the deaths of hundreds of thousands of people. Those two things are a direct contradiction.
