A great and righteous holy war

We will probably not know until years in the future if this war was a mistake. It could end with a victory or it could become another Vietnam style quagmire. North Vietnam was another country we were going to bomb back to the stone age. The Iranians will most likely retaliate to massive American air strikes by bombing the oil production facilities of our Middle East allies. If they are successful, we are likely to see higher prices here in this country, followed by a recession and the Republicans doing badly in the midterms.

If it were as simple as Iran being a bad actor, that would make sense. A world without Khameini is better than one with. But at what price do we reach that desired state?

We're spending money we don't have. The people aren't rising up; the shah's kid has the charisma of a paper clip. I don't see how we "win" without ground troops and massive civilian casualties (which bombing their energy and water infrastructure would cause). Iran, with nothing to lose, would strike oil fields and processing facilities.

Perhaps most damaging of all, it puts Democrats back in power here. Without this war, Dems don't have a shot at taking the Senate. If we get a quagmire, kiss 2028 goodbye too, they'll kill the filibuster and turn the country into an unholy amalgamation of California, Colorado, and Minnesota.

All because Trump listened to shitbirds like Netanyahu and Lindsey Graham.

It's not damaging to put Democrats back in power. Trump spends our money like one of his failed businesses and debt skyrockets out of control. What I said isn't opinion. Those are facts. Compare the numbers and tell me I'm wrong. Democrats do MUCH better with the economy. Our debt with Republicans in office is literally unsustainable. How much money is being wasted on this war?

We did much of the heavy lifting already. Killed a lot of top guys. What we destroyed will take decades to rebuild. No need for boots on the ground. The strategic bombing of Nazi Germany, at a greater scale, did not neutralize it as a military threat. Military age Americans don't see saving Israel as their fight. Even if they did, the effectiveness of a ground invasion of Iran is as unlikely as it was in Iraq, Afghanistan and Vietnam. The best that air attacks can do is deter Iran, not neutralize it as a threat. Cargo ships will have to be retrofitted for remote/auto pilot through the Straits of Hormuz.
