OT: Netflix WTF?

Kamala, you're FIRED!

What the fuck is wrong with Netflix and live events? Did they learn nothing from their disastrous coverage of the Tyson-Paul fight?

Trying to watch the Chiefs-Steelers game. In real time, the game is over, but on Netflix, halftime just started. And the hosts aren't even addressing the problem, as if they're not aware of it. Apparently, CBS isn't showing the game in the NYC area so Netflix is the only way I can watch.

Ravens-Texans is scheduled for 4:30 also on Netflix. It's 4:00 now. I wonder if they'll shut off the 2nd half of the Chiefs game so they can start the next one.

I read they payed $150 million for the rights to each game. SMH.

^ I watched the whole game with no issues it ended a short while ago maybe the issue is your connection or internet provider

Did you select the "Watch Live" option?

^ Yup. Watch live. And I closed out the app, restarted my TV, and went back into it. My internet provider is Verizon Fios gigabit connection. Never had a problem with that ever, except with Netflix.

Right now it's 4:15 and there's 11 min left in the 3rd. (Game is actually over.)

^. I watched it on Hot Wire, it was fine, not even a bit of fuzzy screen, which we get every day in my viewing area.

You have to fast forward. If you just click watch live, it starts the telecast from the beginning.

Thanks, but seriously? Who at Netflix thinks this is a good idea? Default should be live, and rewind if you want to re-watch what already happened. Especially when you choose "watch live". It's no wonder this world is so fucked up.

I didn't have any problems. I use Comcast for Internet.

Sounds like either user error and you'rejust too old or too mentally slow to keep up with these new fangled modern television options.

I watched the entire KC/Pitt game and the first three quarters of the Ravens/Texans game until I got tired of the blowout and they were both in real time with no issues.

You may be right whodey. But forgive me, I think it's best that when you pay for something and turn it on, it should work without a bunch of acrobatics. Canceling cable was a very bad decision. I don't know how this "streaming" shit is so popular. Of course with regular cable, I wouldn't have access to the game at all, so I don't have much of a choice. I guess we just have to take anything the socialists offer us, and love it.

"I don't know how this "streaming" shit is so popular."

Because it makes companies money and many people are now probably paying about the same as they were back in the cable days for monthly streaming subscriptions. Or they're paying for monthly subscriptions and cable.

I watched neither game. Just kept track of fantasy playoffs on my phone. Fuck streaming.

Misterorange, it is popular because you can watch what you want whenever you want no matter where you are. You don't have to be home to watch your favorite shows during the specific time the network wants you to watch it. If the games were on traditional cable if you were busy enjoying the holiday with your family at the beginning of the game you would've missed the chance to see the whole game. With Netflix you could start from the beginning after you were done with your family time. You could also watch it wherever you were on a phone, tablet or laptop if you weren't near a tv.

That's why the majority of homes in the US have streaming services while well under half of American homes have cable or satellite. Soon cable will go the way of home newspaper subscriptions and landline phones where the only people with them will be curmudgeonly old farts yelling at technology to get off their lawn.

25 years in this home. Cable for 24 years. 1 Outage. Streaming for 1 year 3 outages. Yes, people are curmudgeons when they don't like technology that sucks.

It worked fine for us last night. We had the game on two TV's, and the wives and kids were also streaming other shit on other screens. No one really was sitting there glued to the TV's, so it's possible there were glitches or whatever but we didn't notice.

Overall, I'm not a fan of live sports on streaming, but for other content it seems just fine. I also often use the comcast streaming app with a portable projector and screen to watch regular televised games and stuff outside. It's nice this time of year. I'll also use that app to keep an eye on a 2nd game on a tablet too.

^^ Yup. It sucks is the problem. I don't disagree with whodey, it makes sense for tv shows, movies, etc. But the #1 priority for live sports should be to show it live without glitches. Imagine you're at a Super Bowl party and what you're watching is a quarter or two behind the actual game. That's no fun at all.

And I'm pretty sure with cable or Fios you can DVR stuff, although I've never cared to use that. I do admit I'm a curmudgeonly old fuck.

Misterorange, nobody here struggled to watch them except for you. I watch them right on my big screen tv in HD. I also watch the Thursday night game on Amazon Prime in HD right on my tv.

Misterorange, can you shows us a single news story about the Netflix broadcast being behind the actual game? The only report of any issue was during the start of the prwgame show someone forgot to turn on their wireless mic so there was about 10 seconda where no one could hear the person talking. Don't blame them for your user error when it worked great for the whole rest of the country.

Yes, DVRs are good if you know ahead of time what you want to record to watch later. What if a friend tells you about a show that they've been watching? You can't go back and watch previous episodes on your DVR because you didn't know to record them.

@rickdugan @whodey I like both of you guys, but with all due respect, you're defending Netflix as if I had denigrated your favorite girl at your favorite club.

Rick, I've never had a problem with Amazon Prime, or Fubo, or any other app/provider. They're sluggish and difficult to navigate compared to cable, but they're not dysfunctional. It's only Netflix that gives me trouble, and it's always on live events. For me, Netflix fucking SUCKS.

But no worries, I cancelled my subscription, so you won't have to tolerate my bitching and moaning about Netflix anymore. Fuck 'em. No event is so important that I'll put up with their bullshit.

“Netflix's stream of the event was beset by buffering, poor image quality, and audio problems after Netflix executives greatly underestimated the size of the audience and failed to beef up capacity,” The Wall Street Journal reported.

I love streaming (as my personal alternative to cable), but there are larger hiccups on occasion.

rockie, that statement was after the Mike Tyson fight (Netflix's 1st large live event), not the NFL games on Christmas. I read the same story, and the next couple of paragraphs talk about why the Tyson fight had issues and how they fixed it before the NFL games on Christmas.

whodey, what do you work for Netflix? You love them like a 2 dollar whore that gives a GFE. I cancelled my account yesterday and they won't allow me to delete my credit card from their records. My membership will expire in a week, but I can't delete my payment method unless I install another one first. I've got an email in to their legal department. What a piece of shit company. They're gonna keep my c/c info after I'm no longer a customer.

===> "I like both of you guys, but with all due respect, you're defending Netflix as if I had denigrated your favorite girl at your favorite club."

I have no inherent loyalty to Netflix, lmao. I just didn't experience the issues that you did with the football games. Now the Tyson fight was another matter. That royally sucked. But the football games, which I streamed on a big screen HD tv, were fine for me.

Watching football on streaming services sucks. There’s so much down time in football games that not being able to switch channels during commercial breaks and halftime really degrades the experience. That said, it’s extra football to have it on Christmas, Thursday nights, the third game on thanksgiving, etc. that it’s really a bonus. We pay for Netflix and amazon prime anyway, so no additional cost. Last year I paid the $7 to get Peacock for a month to watch a game. Annoying, but still not cost prohibitive if you want to watch a game.

With those conditions the only thing they have to get right is the streaming quality. The Tyson fight sounded like a glitchy mess. Netflix appeared to fix it for the Xmas games. Totally up to you Orange if you want to cancel but sounds like either operator error or some issue unique to your setup. Nobody on the board or in the media is reporting issues.
