I used to go to strip clubs a couple times a week because I lived on a street with three of them and had several more nearby. I never spent a lot of money, though, because I would just buy a couple lap dances per trip. I recently have started going less because of a decline of quality in the local strip clubs, boredom with the hobby, and a desire to save more for my retirement. If anyone else has reduced their strip club trips, what enjoyable hobbies did you find to replace them with?
Strip clubbing should never be too high on a man's list of hobbies. What about exercise, playing an instrument, reading books, or God forbid, talking to/dating civvie women?
Golf is amazing, you can spend hours just trying to get your game focused, it gets you outside, and the exercise isn't hard on old guys like us with aching joints, yet it's beneficial. There are a lot of public courses that aren't very expensive, and it's a great way to meet new friends, if you're a single most courses have a match up service that will pair you up with parties that lack a fourth and introduce foursomes to fill out the course. If you've never played take a few lessons for less than the cost of a lap dance.
Going to strip clubs is a great way to waste huge sums of money. I am in agreement with docsavage that the drop in quality has made it even a bigger waste (uglier girls, worse, higher prices, poorer dancing, distracted attitudes).
I have not replaced it with anything specific. I just do more of the stuff I did outside of the strip clubs. More time working out, more time working on the garden, more time reading books, and more time in parks and at the beach.
If you really want to take the money you spent in clubs and save it for retirement, you would want to avoid hobbies such as golf which require lots of new equipment and regular fees.
^Do you always talk out of your ass or is this your piss poor attempt to troll me GTFOH Equipment is available to rent at most courses, cheap less than $10 per day, most cities and counties in Florida have public courses and greens fees and cart rental is usually less than $30 at many municipal and county courses.
I yearn for the day when I have to seek opinions about how to occupy ample free time. 😆
But one thing I have noticed can burn gobs of time is fantasy sports. I have a single fantasy football team and it has gobbled up time in research and roster development, including ongoing waiver wire pickups. It has given me rooting interests in a lot more games now, so Sunday is a really big day and sometimes Thursday and Monday nights are big too.
I know some guys who have multiple fantasy football teams and I just don't know how they do it. Also I can't even imagine the time commitment needed to play other fantasy sports, especially baseball.
I also enjoy cooking, which can be time consuming. I don't get to work on the dishes that I really like the most due to differing household palates, but when I was single and childless (seemingly eons ago) I did a fair amount of experimenting in the kitchen. I expect that someday I will again once the nest is empty.
Try to involve yourself in a topic you really enjoy. I love studying history. Or maybe try putting something together if you like working with your hands. Personally, I want to try to take courses on Khan Academy. My goal is one hour a day. I’ve so far failed miserably but have it there in the back of my mind.
@dugan - I only have one fantasy team this year (it's a league with friends, half of whom have checked out to the point that they don't even sub people out on bye weeks). The years I had 3-4, I didn't spend that much more time, but I found myself enjoying it much less. The same player might win me one game and lose me the other. I'd rather know conclusively if I want Josh Allen to throw a TD or a pick. It can be obsessive to keep checking scores, though.
Last few months haven't been so much a forsaking of strip clubs as other things overtaking it in interest. Unfortunately I can't do much physically until the New Year (recovering from surgery earlier this week) so I might go just to get out of the house.
Unfortunately it seems like all my hobbies are expensive. In an effort to simplify my life, I recently sold my boat, which was costing me a fortune whether I used it or not. I agree that the strip club experience isn’t what it once was, but now it’s more of a hunting expedition where you never know if it’s going to be a bust or a great time. I tried golf, but I’m not very good at it so it’s not much fun for me. The only other hobby I have would be the never ending restoration of my 1948 house - also a very expensive hobby.
More seriously, anything that gets me moving and outside is great, including golfing, bicycling, hiking, pickle ball and even nerdy bird watching. Other than reading and cooking, I don't really have many indoor hobbies.
Even as a young man, I struggled with to answer the question: "What do you do for fun?" But I have really enjoyed strip clubs. I know of no substitute.
I enjoy having conversations with semi-nude women. Some of the conversations are even quite honest. I don't see how gardening, or exercising could hold a candle.
I once saw an exercise video where the hostess suggested someone could kick their smoking habit by taking up exercise instead. I understand that works for her, but it doesn't compute for me.
Whenever I go through a period where I don't feel like going to strip clubs as often, I generally just spend more time doing my other hobbies. My other hobbies include wood working, fishing, target shooting, poker and vintage video games. How much time and money I spend on the five of those, along with strip clubs, varies throughout the year and from year to year. I enjoy each of them for different reasons so when I start to burn out on one of them I just lean into the others.
If you belong to second tier golf course and walk instead of riding one of my buddies played 111 rounds this year for a 2,200.00 fee. Seems cheap to me. My seasons ski pass this year cost $840.00 I will ski 20-30 times , so its also not expensive. I strip club after golf. I have been skiing Salt Lake City area for 35 years. Last year was my one and only strip club visit, other than at Hour Place in Maine for the last 35 years. Skiing has always been my favorite thing to do. Skiing moguls is the single hardest physical recreation activity one can do. Its like walking up three or four steps on the stairs, turning around and jumping to the bottom, 5 or 6 thousand times. in 3.5 hours.
