A: Because the “States” and “rich” countries leverage their military, geopolitical and commercial dominance in the world economy to depress or cheapen the prices of resources and labour in the “poor” countries.

However it is had for the locals in the poorer countries to have access to beautiful women.

I don't think it's that complicated. In the US prostitution is illegal in most places. It's legal in places like Mexico and Germany. A legal market means more fluid competition and downward pressure on prices.

I personally think a lot of marriages would have lasted if the Germany model was available here.

Because America's Puritanical culture means we have a stick up our ass about sex. Same reason sort of showing a nipple at a Super Bowl halftime show caused a scandal.

The legality of it doesn't fully address the expense of prostitution, just the ease of acquiring it.

Just as there are some willing to spend $50 on a 3 minute airdance in the U.S., there are some willing to spend thousands to spend time (not even for actual sex) with a woman. It has now reached the point where a higher proportion of women value their services at a higher rate.

And as long as there is a handful of guys willing to pay, that's the norm.

However, you can still find beautiful women at reasonable rates in the U.S. - you just have to do more "game-playing" to find what you want.

@ww - I see what you're saying but being illegal means the buyer has no recourse if he's ripped off, meaning more money for less service. Another part might be the epidemic of loneliness, even before COVID so much of our social interaction has been coming from devices. Aside from it being a hard job, being a sex worker make success in romance even harder than it is generally. The years of life when one is able to make the most money in sex work are also the years when one has hopes of finding romance.

Germany has decriminalized prostitution, but it seems they are very reliant on sex workers from poorer countries in Eastern Europe.

Why cheaper? Germany because it's legal, and Colombia and Mexico because it's legal and the alternatives for women pay much less than what by US standards would be low prices. Brazil for the last reason.

Legality affects prices in a simple way--a sex worker will ask herself how much do I have to earn for this to be worth my while? If it involves risk of arrest, then obviously they are going need to earn more for them to be willing to take the risk.

Legality is one aspect, but theres also ghetto pimp culture and hip hop culture. The traditional pimps have mostly died out, replaced with escort agency owners, or boyfriend pimps.
