It looks more like the thread was broken, not closed, via the injected HTML that SJG (and others) use to insert images into posts. If you don't know what you're doing, then the injected HTML can alter or break an entire page. I hope/suspect that founder won't allow it on the new site version. It's also a security risk.
Also, if you inject images that are hosted on other websites, then it's possible for that host website to get notified of places on the web that are stealing their bandwidth. They can block that sharing, or if it's happening on a regular basis they can file a DMCA take-down notice. Also, websites that host embedded images from copyrighted sources can be reported to Google, and that can affect search engine rankings or even get the site de-listed from Google.
I don't think it's prolific enough (yet...) to land on Google's or the DMCA radar in a big way, but it looks like many of the images that SJG is embedding are hosted on Etsy and Shopify, who are known for going after bandwidth thieves. So, SJG's new love for embedding a giant image in many of his posts probably isn't a great idea.

booty, I don't think it is really closed. I have seen that happen once with a thread of mine. Somehow there is some sort of a fumble, and it is probably related to HTML in the post. So it messes up the post box.

I don't think the thread is broken. I have seen this happen on a thread before and it had no embedded images. Rather some embedded HTML of an incidental nature somehow fowled up the post box.

I've seen a thread break in a similar manner with no embedded images. Also, the images are hosted somewhere else, so they don't store in tuscl, they are just more pass thru bandwidth, and that varies with how heavily the site is being used and that thread being accessed.

Actually these external loaded images are not extra bandwidth for tuscl's server. They are extra band width for your computer's browser and your internet connection.
They had an earlier version of this outfit, but it was not so clearly a backdoor uniform.

Founders proto new site does not process HTLM. But it is still a proto. We will have to see what founder wants to do with that long term. As Ishmael has weaponized it, a security breach, a weapon of mass destruction, we will have to wait and see what founder's call on it will be. People have posted all kinds of pics, and no one cares that it is bandwidth stealing. I think it has been a positive feature.
