Vegas 2022

After Pink Sugar Dolls questions she brought up how much of a rip off Vegas has become. For someone that has been to Vegas more times that I’d care to admit over the past decade (but haven’t been there since late 2019 - my March Madness 2020 trip got cancelled) I have seen the prices gradually increase over the years everywhere out there.

I was thinking of going sometime this summer but good god, everything has gone through the roof!!! Even flights are obscene. My point is if I can go to the Caribbean for cheaper than Vegas?!? Yeah I’m going to the beach.

Note - last summer Vegas had the 2 most profitable months EVER in July and August. I could see that, people had all that money saved up from sitting at home for a year and stimulus checks that had to be blown, not so sure that’s happening this summer.

Vegas is slower now than it was during the winter. And prices are obscene. There's places charging $27 for a taco. $39 fried rice....

I think this might be the first ICEY comment I've 'liked.' Agree.

Better off going to Bahamas, Keys, Miami, Gulf, Lake Charles, Myrtle, etc. If you want to gamble and watch sports, personally I like SoCal better than Vegas. The Pechanga and San Manuel are both Vegas-esque casinos except Pechanga has a nightclub where you can pick up some ratchet hoes in a good way. It's also next to Temecula wine country - tons of top notch cool vineyards. About an hour from the COI clubs where anything goes. 90 minutes from TJ and 60-90 minutes from SoCal beaches. Would much rather go there then Vegas where Gary Loveman taught the Strip how to nickel and dime you for every little thing and turned every square foot into a profit center. The clubs aren't even good there anymore.

Vegas has not been fun and inexpensive since the mafia ran it. Today every branch of every resort must turn a profit. Money is just a way of keeping score. People throw money around like they were is a ghetto make it rain strip club. I haven't been back since the 70's.

My last trip to Vegas was February 2020, right before the pandemic, but it was just one night. December 2017 was my last vacation there. I've been about 50 times but doubt I will go back. Too expensive; too dirty; the homeless ruined downtown; the handout flyer people ruined the strip and covid killed it off. With 5 casinos within 90 minutes, it's just not worth it. If I need a gambling trip I can stay at the Golden Nugget in Biloxi and enjoy the weather.

Last time I was in Vegas was 2018, it was getting kind of shitty then, I have been doing more trips to the Caribbean, plenty of great destinations, my favorite is Aruba, added benefit to me is I can hit Nassau in 45 minutes flight, Atlantis is a great well run casino resort great shows and everything available in Vegas is available in the Bahama's with great fishing and super beaches too, many of the islands have specials available at half the cost of any of the Vegas destinations and better amenities, don't overlook Mexico, there are great destinations all up and down the east coast of Mexico again at a fraction of the cost of Vegas. I don't get why everyone is so hung up on that overpriced tourist trap.

As someone who lives there, there are still lots of deals in Las Vegas. Just not on the strip at the largest hotels. You can still find $30 rooms a block off the strip and $5 breakfasts that are great.
I just got back from 5 days at Niagara Falls and that has high prices in Vegas trumped big time. Spent $35 for pancakes (with a view mind you but still) $4.79 for coffee etc. $100 for breakfast for two. Off the tourist street, back to normal prices.
I think too many people have enough money that they can fade the high prices so they just say “screw it, I’m too lazy to try and find a deal”. In Vegas and at every high tourist spot.

@623 The appeal of Vegas is the strip, if we have to hunt for those bargains what's the point of flying to Vegas, and you're right Niagra is ridiculous, but who'd be bothered to go there ?

I’ll also go against the tide and say Vegas can still be fun. I went for years for March Madness and then in the last decade or so started going for a weekend during football season when it was still warm enough to hang at the pools during the day. Lots of debauchery. Our last trip was fall 2019 but we are booked for this fall. Hotel prices are up but I reserved back in the winter and got a good rate. Prices fluctuate and my guess is you’ll still find some deals but will have to hunt for them or stay at a lesser place. We like the strip casinos but pay for it. Same for flights. Hopefully fuel costs dip and we can rebook at cheaper fares. If the fares change, Southwest allows you to rebook at lower prices with no fees. Correct me if I’m wrong, but do the Caribbean casinos have sports books? That’s a difference. I do know that the Caribbean casinos don’t have all the house edge rules that Vegas has added to the blackjack tables like 6:5 on BJ, no doubling after a split, dealer hits on soft 17 and the hated constant shuffling machines. As for the clubs, they are what they are. I can have fun in all of them and while it’s not the value of elsewhere in the country it’s still fun and i spend less money than I have at risk in the casino. I thoroughly enjoy the rush of taking (some of) my winnings in the casino and having less of a conscience about spending it in the clubs. Good for the economy too.

Never been a big Vegas guy honestly. I haven’t hit the strip clubs there yet though yet. But I would rather hang out in other cities. I wouldn’t say no to going though.

And I although I think the Oakland A’s need to move I just don’t think Vegas is the greatest fit, but it looks more and more likely. It’s really not a big city and after you get out of the suburbs there is NOTHING for awhile in any direction.

Sure Vegas has deals. But if you're a tourist what fun is it to have to stay in a motel off the strip and chase down outbif the way restaurants for a deal. Or not do any of the Vegas things coz they're too expensive.

Even off the strip they'll nickle and dime you.

The quality of food customer service everything has gone downhill. Now it's just about shaking you down and getting the next suckered in asap. Vegas has adopted the clip joint business model.

I agree that Cali casinos are more fun and have better food.

You can have fun in Vegas. Yku can have fun anywhere.

For a vacation I'd rather go to San Diego or Rosarito Mexico.

As far as strip clubs go. Vegas has a lot more robs. Talent has gone down by a lot. But I think things are starting to even out. Girls are used to making less money. The clubs are backing away from obscene cash grabs although staff will try to overcharge you if you're not careful.

Crime has gone up a lot. People come to Vegas for the weekends just to rob people. Lots of scams like girls acting drunk or like they need help in a garage. Then the guy gets jumped and robbed. Pick pockets every where. In regular clubs bouncers will let you in then demand money to not kick you out. Drais is known for that.

Food quality is low overall in Vegas. Yeah there are exceptions but...

The strip snd downtown are more dangerous coz you now got wars between local drug dealers and ones coming in from California.

    @Jummy
The Caribbean is many different islands and countries they all have their own rules regarding their casinos and gambling in the Bahamas some of the larger casinos have a sports book in Aruba also, I don’t remember a sports book in the DR or st Martin St Johns is the US virgins they have similarities to Vegas rules but it is so diverse, best way to find out what you want to know is check the websites of any of the places you’re interested in.

I like Vegas. We stay at the Palazzo mid week for pricing, and the room is 770sq ft. You can party really well in the way the space is set up. You want to do the budget style club? Hit up Chicas (5 bucks to get in, and cheap dances) in North Vegas. You want full nude with booze? Hit Palomino, it's relatively nice. You want the mega club with lots of white chicks with fake tits? Sapphire is there for you. You want slightly upscale medium sized club? Hit up Spearmint. Yes, there are cover charges everywhere....sometimes they're negotiable, sometimes not. Pick your budget, and work within that. This is going to sound like an asshole, but if you really can only cover a $30 dollar room, then I agree that Vegas may not be for monger you.

I still go to vegas for vacation, it’s actually a place I enjoy quite a lot. It IS more expensive and YOU CAN find deals but they are usually in the off season times, and for places like Hooters hotel and Excalibur and Circus Circus, which aren’t places I really want to stay at all. What I meant in the other thread is for a work trip by myself, it’s unreasonable, mostly. 🤷🏼‍♀️ I just went for vacay last June and will be going there again the same week this year. Pay to play I guess!

I think airbnbs can offer a better deal than hotels in Vegas. One of the few cities where that's the case I think.

^^ except how do you know if your rental is n a good neighborhood?

    Bacon!!
  • Icee Loco (asshole)

It probably won't be. The best neighborhoods crack down on them. But you can get a nice condo with views of the strip or the valley qt the same price as a small room.

I’m not crazy about the location but the price and amenities are usually great - I often stay at the MGM Signature and often book through AirBNB.

My favs are Venetian/Palazzo or Cosmo.

Yeah PSD - I’m not staying at Excalibur but one time I crashed at Palace Station - not my proudest moment.

I agree with staying at Venetian/Palazzo or the Cosmo and Aria area. You can go with my method of gambling too much and never paying for a room. I am sure I am way ahead lifetime on my gambling there (yeah right].

City center and the venetian are some of the worst areas to focus your trip on. Over priced and not that different from any other place

Vegas has been facing a major crisis over the last few years with more and more states legalizing some form of gambling.

Like in Ohio we went from a couple race tracks then they get permission to install slots and call them racinos, then they legalize 4 legit casinos in the major cities. Now If I want I can go up to Columbus and gamble, or I can go there and catch a 4 hour flight without layovers to do it.

Vegas was already a destination type place but once the gambling revenue started to take a hit from the legalized states they started to pivot to even more of a destination thing and also started to gouge wherever possible, like you used to be able to park for free at the MGM establishments now you can only do it for free if you are a hotel guest or the second tier of their players reward club or else shell out the $15 (maybe more I haven't been since pre covid). Food prices crazy, $40/ night resort fees on top of whatever $/night you already pay and on and on. You go there for a couple of nights and by the time you leave you're hundreds in the hole from just being there much less any gambling.

I don't get the big deal with the resort fee. 6hey do it in other places too. But the price gouging overall is terrible

shyoh, your statement “Vegas has been facing a major crisis over the last few years with more and more states legalizing some form of gambling” is just false.

Vegas is in the middle of a record gambling profits run, hitting all time profit growth numbers for every month since they reopened. 20 and 30 percent over pre pandemic numbers every month. New multi billion dollar resorts and record visitor numbers even before conventions get fully back on track.

Vegas does have a crisis. Resorts are working with skeleton crews to maximize profits. Half the workers haven't been recalled. There's an affordable housing crisis. Eviction crisis. Cost of living is growing fast. It's not the vegas it used to be. There's more to it than casino profits
  • 623

Iced - Ohio said there was a crisis in Vegas gambling. I was responding to that. There is no crisis there if profits are up 30%

The rest of the stuff you mentioned is all over the country and not just in Vegas. In fact I would argue that it is worse in many parts of the country than it is in Las Vegas.

There are places worse off than Vegas. But vegas is definitely not what it used to be. Gaming profits are us because of the antiworker measures casinos are taking. And I'm curious to how the moves against the culinary union will play out ie not recalling union workers and trying to replace them.

One place on the strip with reasonable rates is the Cromwell. Fun place.

I've never been a big fan of Las Vegas. Every square foot is so plainly designed to separate you from your money. Everything is artificial, engineered, focus grouped, market tested, and rolled out with planning to the slightest detail. I like wide open spaces. I like dark skies. I like hearing the crickets, frogs, and nightbirds. I like the majesty of nature, which makes room for the Fibonacci Spiral alongside crushingly random chaos. There's no money in that, so you cannot find it in Vegas.

There's cricketa in Vegas and nature... the springs preserve. Oases at the paiute reservation. Mount Charleston. Valley of fire. Frenchmans mountain....

The strip and downtown though. Yeah anything corporate ends up disneyesque
