Detroit is #57?

Hilton Head, SC? Are old retirees and vacationing soccer moms robbing convenience stores now?

I think this list is in direct relationship to how good the college football is. 14 of the top 16 are in SEC territory.

"Detroit is #57?"

The list is very misleading because it is including the entire metropolitan area. The tri county area includes Oakland County, whih is quite wealthy, and for all I know they might even be including a 4th county, Washtenaw, to include the city of Ann Arbor which is also nice. Detroit has plenty of nice suburbs, although I wouldn't include Ann Arbor as being part of metro Detroit.

^^ that would make perfect sense. When people say Detroit, yeah I’m not thinking of Birmingham let alone Ann Arbor!

There’s crime and then there’s violent crime. In Philly the murder and shooting rates are thru the roof - and people get murdered all over the City not just the slums.

Personal experience - I’ve been the victim of petty theft in a lot of “nice” places in the South. I think it’s just part of the culture of the poor people down there. They’ll steal low value stuff that’s really not worth stealing.

The stats can change depending on whether it's total #s or per-capita - major cities can have high #s which are somewhat diluted bc of the huge-populations

So another thing to consider is usually these lists measure ALL crime by capita ORRRR violent crime by capita, which includes murder, rape, and robbery. So when you’re thinking about places like Detroit you’re thinking of violent crime where a list that shows all crime by capita would maybe reflect different results.

I moved from a small city in sc last year when the violent crime stat gave a 1 in 12 chance of being a victim but due to the small town status rarely shows up on national lists. I felt lucky to avoid all the shootings. No one got shot on my street. A popular vacation city some local shooters like to visit is very aware of the city i moved from making their city appear in national lists one year. Too many gangs think it's ok to go around shooting up homes etc. I don't know what's wrong with some people. Over in Charlotte area 3 people shot 150 rounds into one home killing a 3 year old in bed. These shooters must not believe in hell and eternal lake of fire . I do believe they will discover the truth soon. People talk about the wild west but I believe we live in more violent times.

Another thing to look at is what each survey defines as “crime.”

Domestic disputes?

Trespassing?

Threats?

Number of police reports?

Traffic violations?

DUI?

Shoplifting?

Some surveys look at “violent” crime versus “all” crime, throwing in or out certain things I mentioned above can greatly change the stats, especially domestic violence.

And I'll bet that over 50 of those 60 cities are run by democrats, probably closer to 58 of 60.

This is nothing compared to how some cities used to be like LA or NYC.
