Phil Niekro, Famed Knuckleballer, gone at 81

He was one of those guys that looked like he was in his 80’s back in the 80’s when he was still pitching. Bob Uecker said "The way to catch a knuckleball is to wait until it stops rolling and then pick it up."

^No kidding. It was fun watching Phil and his brother ,Joe, throwing that slow junk that fluttered around a lot of bats.

I remember when Joe got caught with sandpaper on the mound, and he tried to toss it away inconspicuously, but the umpire saw it and pointed. Suspension!

Desert, not sure that he had so many demons...he’s generally viewed as a hometown hero here in Atlanta, known for his work with sick kids and others.
