How to avoid being shot by a cop

The beauty of this advice is that it works regardless of what color you are. It is truly race free.
The first step to take if you want to avoid being shot by a cop involves learning 3 simple facts:
1) Cops are legally authorized to detain people. They don't need proof that you committed a crime, suspicion is enough. If you don't wish to be detained, you may ask if you are being placed under arrest. If the answer is "No", then you can inform them that if you aren't being arrested, then you would like to go.
Note: If you tell them that you want to leave, they may place you under arrest. An arrest is not a conviction, and facts can be straightened out later.
If you just leave without saying anything, you need to become more familiar with the rules stated in this friendly guide. You have initiated the first step in a process that could result in you being shot (regardless of what color you are)
2) Cops carry guns (and other weapons)
3) Sudden moves make cops nervous. Cops are taught to take control of situations. If you are detained by a cop, de-escalate the situation. Let your actions and your words clearly point out that you have no desire to offer any resistance.
They are people just like you and me, and they want to go home at the end of their shift. Something like a sudden lunge into your car and a reach toward the floorboard may result in you being shot.
If you think that there is nothing wrong with sudden moves, then you need to refamiliarize yourself with the simple concepts explained in this friendly guide.
And that's all there is to it. Written in terms that even IceyLoco can understand. (Though admittedly this is well over the head of RandomMember)
