It seems as if Floyd was on something and thus acting erratically and not cooperating - in *hindsight* the police could've acted better, but all this would have been avoided if he would have cooperated as most normal citizens would - seems it is often the perp not cooperating that causes the officers to have to use extra-force - seems they couldn't get him to comply and thus it led to what it led to - there were two other black persons with him and nothing was done to them (for those that wanna claim this was done b/c he was black) - if they were "purposely going after black people" they would have also targeted the 2 black persons with him - if Floyd would have cooperated, the tragic turn of events would have not happened; they were just trying to get a very large uncooperative man into the car.
The guy was high as a kite, but it's no excuse. I've been arrested twice in my life and both times I was pretty fucked up. As a 17 year old college kid drunk and tripping on acid, and as a 32 year old adult coked up out of my mind. Regardless, when shit got real and I saw those badges and guns, I complied 100%. Throughout the entire video, this guy is basically telling the cops he's gonna be a problem for them.
Now that IN NO WAY justifies what was eventually done to him, but the chain of events started with HIM not following basic instructions like "put your hands on the wheel." They had to tell him five times, and when he finally did it, he took a hand off within a few seconds. HE started the downward spiral that led to his death. A career criminal like George Floyd should have known better than to fuck around like that.
@Papi_Chulo the officer kept his knee on the guys neck for over 8mins and kept it there after he passed out and started bleeding from his nose. Plenty of people are arrested under the influence. There was simply no reason for the officers actions. The situation was well under control regard
@kingbignc
The officer's heinous actions are not in dispute. Everyone agrees it was completely wrong. But the fact remains, if Floyd had complied with the most basic tenets of common sense, the piece of shit would still be alive today.
Floyd seemed to not comply in any way - I "assume" in the end the officer was kneeling on him to get him to comply (after many minutes of trying to talk to him about complying) - I doubt it was the officer's intention to kill him, if that was his intention he could have done it when no one was looking - time and time again most of these incidents occur when the perp decides he won't comply - we can't have perps being the ones to determine if, and/or how, they get arrested - that's a bad precedent for society b/c then the police may stop dealing w/ these folks which means society will be left to deal with them - if police start letting go perps that resist arrest, then the law-breakers are only gonna be emboldened and we have already seen what happens when the police back down, society is left to fend for themselves.
As with anything else, there's room for improvement in policing - but once a person starts resisting arrest, the only choice they often have is to use force to get the perp to comply, o/w what are they gonna do, let the perp go, or wait until the perp decides he wants to comply - Floyd's death should have not happened, but his actions led to a bad-ending - if the police is not given the power to arrest, then we are the ones that are gonna be left to deal with the worst-of-the-worst in society.
Just because a bigger piece of shit murdered a lesser piece of shit doesn't mean George Floyd is some tragic, worthy of idolizing figure. Shut your mouth; get in the fucking car; get bailed; repeat ..... George Floyd didn't give a shit about the woman whom he held hostage, so how does getting killed by a bigger piece of shit make him a better person?
I know they are anecdotal, but there are now hundreds of videos out there (mostly Black folks but some White folks too) of thinks like simple traffic stops going bad. they all have a common theme, and the people posting them do not seem to get it.
They all start with failure to comply by people who think they are Perry Mason. Variants:
1. I will not give you my identification until you tell me why you pulled me over (they do not have to. You have to give ID first)
2. I do not have to give you my ID if I did nothing wrong (the whole point is the cop thinks you did something wrong. You are not the judge).
3. I refuse to sign that ticket (then go to jail for obstruction).
4. You have no right to detain me since I did nothing wrong. (see #2)
5. Wanting to argue with the cop now holding a gun on you rather than complying.
6. The mistaken idea that if you do not willingly comply the police cannot make you comply.
Now bystanders and friends are instigating the escalation by telling people to not comply. I saw one where the teenager's mother was filming the traffic stop gone bad and yelling to the kid not to cooperate. "If they put you in cuffs and force you into the patrol car we will get a lot of money!!!"
Yep, there is now this concept that if the cops make you do anything against your will they will be fired and you sue the police.
A lot of parents today raise their kids in such a manner that they all but guarantee their kid will get shot. The worst part is having the cases brought up time after time, i.e the 110% justified shooting of Michael Brown.
After watching the video the police has to adjust. Police have to recognize that theres a real drug problem and policing techiques have to adjust accordingly to deal with the heavy scum drug users. these drug users are freaken zombies, i propose police units have transport vehicles (trucks) that can safely tranfer these idiots to local jails. Police cars are not equipped to transport drug zombies. mr. floyd could not fit in the drug cruzer because he was riding high.
I actually agree with that dipshit rumdum moron but its not surprising that he finally got something right. I mean even a stopped clock is right twice a day although comparing rumdum to a stopped clock is a huge disservice to the clock.
If I heard correctly, Floyd had both Fentanyl and Meth in his system, plus he also had a heart condition.
Perhaps there can be enhanced training for cops to deal with such folks although IDK what one can do w/ an uncooperative person - the young black kid that died in Colorado when he was freaking out at police detaining him, he was injected w/ a tranquilizer and subsequently died although IDK if it was b/c of the tranquilizer injection.
i know i'm an asshole for saying this, but isn't it ironic that he said he was going to die if he went into the back of the police car, when if he just did it, he'd probably still be alive.
The video shown was leaked - supposedly the Minneapolis D.A. was the one not allowing the full-video to be shown b/c in his words it would hurt his prosecution for murder.
It seems to be a fairly common M.O. where the liberal-media often just shows a snippet of a video just showing the end-result but often not showing what led up to it nor telling the whole story.
IMO from now on one should be skeptical at these "videos" that only show a snippet of the whole story.
Double edged sword for sure. I would rather have a video snippet that does not give the whole story, than get nothing at all and a 'we've investigated ourselves and found no wrongdoing' bullshit we been getting.
After watching the video, there is zero chance the cop will be found guilty of murder. Maybe manslaughter, which will not be enough for the mob. I expect a second wave of riots......err, excuse me, protests.......when the verdict falls short. What a mess.
goldmongerATL has two very insightful comments in this discussion. His list of things that folks do wrong is spot on. It’s a simple thing to comply, and in most all cases you are able to walk away without incident.
Yep. Even if you are being illegally treated, just comply and survive the day. Then, if you have a real case get a fat settlement. Also, a $50 dash cam has given me a way better return than most money I’ve spent.
"I would rather have a video snippet that does not give the whole story, than get nothing at all and a 'we've investigated ourselves and found no wrongdoing' bullshit we been getting."
I 110% agree they dont need to be investigating themselves in these police shootings. That to me should be a obvious non-starter. There should be multiple groups doing the investigation for full transparency. The police, the FBI, and we should have our own organization(not the NAACP or BLM or any of these other groups) alongside the police and the FBI duting the investigation. But the media is putting out video footage that feeds a narative and furthers their agenda. Theres a reason they put videos of the police mistreating blacks/minorities on every social media and left wing media outlet for everyone to see.
Except in rare occassions, transparency is needed vs hiding of "inconvenient facts".
And I do agree with @chessmaster, part of the transparency is having some entity(ies) outside the police investigating how the police is operating (absolute power corrupts absolutely) - I imagine there are plenty of good cops that feel they can't speak up about wrongdoings bc of politics/factions within departments.
USA is the greatest country on Earth because guys like George "high on fentaly, violent criminal" Floyd deserve their day in court. Once the cops put you in handcuffs it carries a certain liability where they have to protect you from self harm.
Everything about icey’s lifestyle is propped up by modern day slavery. Just like you and me. It’s wrong but I’m just one guy, half dead, who doesn’t care enough to make a change.
But white people are the problem in 2020, not slavers and the corporations that benefit from them
The real problem is police do not have the tools to arrest and safely transport people that are high on fentanyl. Due to the shut down expect more people to be on this shit.

"Minneapolis Officials Prevent Putting The Dismantling Of The Police Department On Ballot As Opposition To ‘Defund Police’ Surges"
"... A Minneapolis commission on Wednesday prevented the Democrat-controlled Minneapolis City Council’s amendment to dismantle the city’s police department from appearing on the ballot this November ..."
"... The announcement just happened to come on the same day that Gallup News released the results from a recent survey showing that the overwhelming majority of Americans, including 81% of black Americans, want either the same amount or more policing in their neighborhoods than what they currently have ..."
@winex
If I'm not mistaken, I think what you meant was that if they dismantled the police department, it would result in total anarchy, and people would finally wake up to the fact that BLM supporters are out of their fucking minds?
@MisterOrange - actually I was making a joke. The phrase "deals blow" can be interpreted more than one way. I took it to mean that they were "dealing blow" (aka cocaine)
All kidding aside, calls to defund the police are both maddening and amusing at the same time. The useful idiots calling for defunding of the police would be the first to cry for help once they saw what they had wrought.
The original formula for the socialists was class warfare, "the revolt of the working-class" - but their "revolt" has not worked as then envisioned/hoped and now they are using racial-divide as an alternate way of achieving their socialist revolt/utopia

@winex... haha, got it. By the way, I've already seen news reports with video evidence where "protesters" were screaming "call the police" when shit suddenly got real for them.

If I had behaved to my parents the way Floyd behaved towards the cop, they would have beat me worse than what the cops did to Floyd.
