There is nothing to celebrate this memorial day and 4th of July . Millions unemployed, Worst Recession of all time , 100k deaths thanks to a failed administration . If only Biden can get elected we would have a leader ! This Virus showed America is weak and powerless . Trumpy delivered the worst 4 years for a country .

I suppose only a true failure like the OP would know what failure is but with him being a failure he fails to realize that his troll post is as full of BS as he is. The true purpose of Memorial Day isn't about celebration, it's to pay homage to our war dead, people that died fighting for and preserving the freedom that allows his moronic ass to lie and publicly say things like he did in his post.

If tomorrow all the things were gone I worked for all my life And I had to start again With just my children and my wife I thank my lucky stars To be living here today 'Cause the flag still stands for freedom And they can't take that away And I'm proud to be an American Where at least I know I'm free And I won't forget the men who died Who gave that right to me And I'd gladly stand up next to you And defend Her still today 'Cause there ain't no doubt I love this land God Bless the U.S.A. From the lakes of Minnesota To the hills of Tennessee Across the plains of Texas From sea to shining sea From Detroit down to Houston And New York to L.A. Where's pride in every American heart And it's time we stand and say That I'm proud to be an American Where at least I know I'm free And I won't forget the men who died Who gave that right to me And I'd gladly stand up next to you And defend Her still today 'Cause there ain't no doubt I love this land God Bless the U.S.A. I don't get why some of you are so butthurt about the truth. The US is on the decline. We have a president telling people to use dangerous meds and to inject Lysol. Were also the only country without worker protections so the shutdown resulted in record unemployment here. We have 90k dead in 2 months with a shut down. Thats a rate of 540k a year with a shutdown. Were not that great as a country. The fact tnat some people actually still support Trump proves it

Loving your country has nothing to do with blind loyalty. Real patriotism is about wanting to make it better and being grounded in reality. Not in flag waving jingoism and populist rhetoric like in North korea.

Actually, I asked a straightforward question. Your non-answer and poor attempt to put me on the defensive speaks volumes. I love my country despite its imperfections, for the opportunities that it has provided me and my family and what it stands for in the world. Is it perfect? No. But that's irrelevant. It does a ton of good that no country can replicate right now.

I'm a registered Republican who loved his country whether Obama or Trump was president, and gets called a conservative by his liberal friends and never-Trumper by his conservative friends. Neither is wrong, but neither captures the truth. Regardless, I'm grateful the opportunities that this country has provided and believe it's a force for good in the world. Even if it's not perfect, it possesses mechanisms for self-correction and improvement. I'd appreciate if you could separate your opinion of Trump from the rest of the country.

"This country had been on a rapid decline since 2000. Trump actually has been making it better. But you're too busy listening to CNN news bites to notice." I actually thought the US was in a very good place in the 2000-2012 era. I recently binged on comedies from that era and its easy to forget just how much has changed since then. Particularly its incredible how much political incorrectness you could have in movies and television just 10-15 years ago compared to now. I do somewhat agree with IceyLoco in the sense that how much I like any country in the world is conditional. Its purely based on who I think has created the best society. Whether its my country or not doesn't really come into play. However, objectively, the US has done a pretty good job. We are the strongest economy in the world. The constitution is a work of brilliance that continues to keep our country safe despite ideologues who have tried their best to defeat it. The US government is generally a force for good in the world, keeping authoritarian regimes in check, and despite some flaws in our foreign policy we generally try to treat other countries fairly. During wars, the US military goes to great lengths in order to not kill civilians. Terrorist organizations are aware of how much the American military does not want to kill civilians which is why they use human shields. If ISIS was fighting the Iranian military, they probably wouldn't bother with human shields because they know the Iranian government wouldn't care how many Iraqis died. Overall the philosophy of individualism is good for libertarianism and keeping authoritarianism in check. However, individualism has its flaws which manifests itself in US society. One of the biggest flaws being that many people become self-absorbed and stop caring about the quality of life for the people around them. The US has too much of an attitude that "all your problems are your fault, and the only way to fix them is to fix you." This is essentially a cop out so that none of the issues in our society can be blamed on society itself. Despite our individualism, there's a major lack of common sense in US society which manifests itself in our prostitution laws, in the increasing levels of bureaucracy, the refusal to address the root causes of the school shooter phenomenon (its not guns, its rage), and in extreme helicopter parenting. We have a tendency to simply ignore the harmful effects of things we are doing to our own country until the problem gets completely out of control. Depression, anxiety, and suicide rates among young men are at an all time high and nobody seems to want to address this fact other than to say its young men's fault for being "losers" compared to previous generations. Overall, our extreme individualism and self-reliance ethic is going to be our downfall because humans are simply not meant to live that way. We are a tribal species that requires group cohesiveness in order to work. At some point we're going to have to acknowledge that we're not just a bunch of people living in our own bubbles but that our actions all have profound consequences on one another even if those actions seem small to us.

@CC America is not the failure, the failure is those that can't find a way to thrive, looking for someone, or something to blame, seems to me it some of you younger folks that are not facing up to your potential and using your own ability to get ahead, fortunately there are many young people doing well evidenced by the fact that the reference points made by those complainers, are really not representative of the mainstream.

  • CC99
@TwentyFive I don't think we are right now, but we are headed that way if we don't address the root causes of many of the issues plaguing us. The biggest one being the rage a lot of people have towards one another right now. It gets worse every year, and it absolutely will cause our downfall if we don't find some sort of compromise between the groups.
  • Tetradon

Either every ill as an individual should be blamed on the society at large or every ill is blamed on the individual. Doesnt matter which one but in this age of everyone being triggered and offended this is one of my triggers. People shouldn't get to cherry pick which issues are your fault and which are everyone else's.
  • CC99
@chessmaster I wouldn't say picking and choosing each issue, but its more nuanced than being 100% the individual's fault or 100% society's fault because individual actions are often driven by society's directions. So if the directions that society gives people are wrong then their individual actions will be wrong too. Often times I think the directions society gives are too simplistic because people don't actually know what works. In Founder's front room thread I gave examples of how individual action can prevent people from getting girls but also how the things society tells people to value come into that as well. That's pretty much the case with everything. There's some individual action at play but society certainly has a large influence.

Deal Tet; when Desires opens I am buying; well drinks anyway. In almost 38 years practicing law one weird thing I have learned is that people profess to hate traits in others, that they actually have inside them and hate themselves for having these traits. Examples: Progressives claim to love diversity, but if you look at their actions you realize they hate anyone different from them. Real life example: Liberal Massachusetts tried to raise the state income tax and the left showed poll after poll proving %75 percent of the populace thought paying a little more was fair. No tax increase was passed, but the tax form,s that year allowed people to pay the lawful rate, or voluntarily pay .2% more. Despite the 75% lol who thought it was fair, less than 1% paid it. More empty, no deeds words from the left. By the way: Democrat in the whitehouse makes this whole country Minneapolis.

@Skibum, Amen. Massachusetts progressives love the poor as long as they have to commute an hour to serve them, green energy as long as the windmills don't spoil their cape views and property values, and taxes as long as they're levied on someone else (see the SALT hysteria, which I gather hits us both).
