Trump pardon

Avatar for londonguy

I read that Trump may pardon or has hinted that he will pardon Roger Stone, what do you guys think about that? It seems strange that a President can pardon someone in these circumstances, not that I know much about your politics.

It would indeed be extremely strange. Have to wait and see.

The Republicans would do better if they could just get Trump to resign, so they can still pick someone else.

Bernie Sanders says that our country has 1/2 million people sleeping out on the street.

The pardon is based on the royal Prerogative of English Kings, which gave the king the ability to overturn any sentence. After much debate, it was included in the US constitution.

^^^^ I understand where it comes from and that it is in Article 2, but has there ever been a case of a POTUS using it in this kind of a situation. Seems to be none.

They say that if Roger Stone talked he could put Trump in prison.

Obama pardoning 330 drug dealers doing federal time was so much classier. The commutations were so typical that Obama's total exceeeded the combined total of the prior 13 presidents combined, making Obama the eptiome of a scumbag. Iam Scrager tax cheat: pardoned by Obama. Wille McCoevy; Duke Snider, tax cheats, pardoned by scumbag Obama. How uitterly pathetic the ignorant statements are in light of this. Its bad to pardon anyone uinless they lied about their dealings with Iran; counterfeited money; sold drugs to kids. Prohgressives embarrass themselves daily.

===> "It seems strange that a President can pardon someone in these circumstances, not that I know much about your politics."

Actually london, having the power to pardon those who are targeted for prosecution by political foes is exactly among the reasons that the pardon power exists, along with the blanket immunity from prosecution that the President himself enjoys. Together these powers prevent political enemies from using the threat or reality of prosecution of the President and/or his agents to co-opt the rightful powers belonging to the executive branch.

The President does have a great deal of power, but it is not always usable without consequence.

And serious efforts to impeach Nixon started only when it was close to his re-election, meaning that most of it was after his re-election.

So Trump is already running ahead of the curve.

Trump has the power to pardon people convicted of federal crimes. It's morally reprehensible to pardon your long-time cronies who violated the law, but Trump is a reprehensible person. He will probably pardon Stone and the other criminals he's surrounded himself with.

@Londonguy

Our Founding Fathers did not invent the American system of government out of thin air. They were influenced by their British heritage.

The colonists were British until the so-called American Revolution.

By the 1700s, King George III and Parliament were making more and more demands on the colonies. Many were getting fed up and began to meet and discuss breaking away from Britain.

We the people of tUScl need to desacralize the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution and the Amendments; to expose popular myths about them and create something better with justice for all, were it is fundamental that justice should be the same, in substance and availability, without regard to economic or social status.

I'm just wondering how many jars of Vaseline and/or tubes of KY Jelly Roger Stone will exhaust in prison while waiting for the pardon. If his rectum gets stretched too badly, he might start spilling the beans on Trump. So that pardon better happen pronto. Hopefully before the election.

Nixon's face is going to be filled with Big Black Cock every time Roger drops the soap in the shower.

Of course, I'm not opposed to Roger Stone getting a SHORT sentence.
If I had my way the traitor would get the guillotine and would be a head shorter.

I can respect someone who pardons their friends ,more than someone who freess hundreds upon hundreds of high level criminals simply because their skin color matches. Kind of funny how drop the sopa comments always expose people's secret, most innermost desires to be the one they pretend to curse...

Personally I think they should only be granted in special circumstances, nothing springs to mind but skin colour and being a friend should never be one.

The theory, going back to our founding, is that the President needs the power to carry out his duties, especially in time of war. The main checks on his power are elections and impeachment. What the founders did not want was a President who was weakened by constant political undercutting from Congress, which is where we are currently. If a President was leading the country in the wrong direction, the Founders believed that an election every 4 years was an adequate cure. Giving a President the power to pardon was all part of this desire to have a strong executive office.

When a person is prosecuted with excessive vigor driven by political motives, one person's criminal can be another person's victim of political warfare.

Trump has the legal authority to pardon, but using his constitutional powers improperly will hasten his removal from office.

^^^^ I think Rod Blagojevich, the Governor of Illinois who tried to sell Barack Obama's Senate Seat is the only Democrat Trump pardoned. I think he just wants cover for pardoning the members of his gang.
