A local drag queen known as Hilary Rivers was detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement last week, sparking an outcry among San Franciscoβs immigrant and LGBTQ+ communities.
What Alcatraz is really like in 2025
Rivers was detained on June 26 by ICE after a scheduled court appointment, according to SF Pride. As of June 27, he was transferred from the San Francisco ICE Field Office to the Golden State annex in McFarland, California. Riversβ legal team has since been in contact with him and met with him over the weekend.

He reportedly came to the United States seeking political asylum after enduring βsevereβ persecution in his home country as a gay man, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.
The detention came just days before San Franciscoβs 2025 Pride Parade on Sunday, when thousands marched in celebration and protest amid escalating federal crackdowns on LGBTQ+ and immigrant communities. For organizers and community members alike, the joy of the celebration juxtaposed with the heartbreak of Riversβ detention has been gutting.
βI mean, itβs heartbreaking, right?β said Maceo Persson, a board member with SF Pride. βLike, itβs heartbreaking that we work so hard to try to put together a space of joy and celebration of each other, for community, and at the same time is happening, right? Someoneβs getting detained and having their freedom taken away from them.

Trump admin tells immigration judges to dismiss cases in tactic to speed up arrests
The judges, who work for the executive branch, have been instructed to grant dismissals quickly; ICE has been arresting people after their cases are dismissed.
Icey even your support for drag queens isnt genuine- you just want to pimp them out. You want to expand your business and be able to service both gay and straight customers.

More like MAGAs wet dream. Just imagine what most of the rest of the country would be thinking if a bunch of drag queens, other gender confused types and various other assorted deviants converged on SF and came out in numbers to protest. The pictures alone would be gold. π
.
Sadly it doesn't look like it's going to happen. I saw the pictures from the "protest" in front of the ICE detention center and it was a scraggly bunch indeed.
^ Indeed those ads will write themselves Puddy. We could us some new pics for the JD Vance ads in 4 years, especially if Newsom is running.

Where are all these protests happening in support of the Guatemalan dude in a dress? I keep searching, but all I get is a couple of small rags in SF showing pics of a scraggly group in front of the ICE detention center.
.
I am very curious now. Pics would be great.
===> "There are protests for civil rights and against the regime every day. States are standing up to Trump. If everyone isn't free. No one is free."

That's equal parts melodramatic and plain stupid. We live in the freest country in the world. Unlike so many other places, we don't have storm troopers snatching people in the night for saying things against the government, or confiscatory taxes in a society trying to make people utterly dependent on the government, or thought police censoring what we say online (which has even recently come to Europe), or...the list is endless.
.
But I will admit that it sucks right now to be an undocumented immigrant in the U.S. Frankly this approach is one I don't agree with. But OTOH, it's hard to argue that just being homosexual is enough to warrant asylum here in the U.S. If the bar was that low, we'd be flooded with homosexuals from countless countries around the world that are still hostile to alternative lifestyles.
If you total up all the protest attendees, you would have .001% of the people in the country protesting and .0001% of people living here legally protesting. Civil rights is a meaningless phrase in the world of today.
Why do we accept asylum seekers? We should ask one question, will letting someone immigrate benefit American citizens? That's how other countries decide who to let in.
^how easy is it to lie on these asylum applications? Do they have to be persecuted by the home countrys government or can they say, for example, my spouse or parents are abusive and violent so i need asylum.
Our asylum laws don't exist to counterbalance social injustices in different countries. They're intended to provide a refuge for those facing imminent real harm. One fag requesting asylum from a country that doesn't even criminalize homosexuality is unlikely to meet that standard.
.
Indeed, not surprisingly, he lost his case. Then he was sent home. That's that.

Work on your English language comprehension.
A judge cant legally dismiss an asylum case without a valid legal reason. Its just more abuses of power at the cost of societys most vulnerable.
But right wing extremists are gloating
