I have Verizon FIOS TV and also stream Netflix & Prime TV.
Tonight I found nothing of interest and began scrolling. Under the Menu I saw where there are now Messages. Seeing that I had unread messages I went there and the third one was a rather terse statement that Playboy, Brazzers, Reality Kings & Hustler Adult content subscriptions and related on-demand content will no longer be available on FIOS TV.
I wonder if this is a local decision or if we no longer are being treated like adults. I’ve not been a subscriber and only watched one “adult” on-demand movie when I had a young woman staying who wanted to see porn on the big screen.

I don't know why anyone would pay for such services. I get free porn on my computer and stream it to my big screen TV --or I could if I watched porn.

I suspect that they looked at the number of subscribers / buyers (very few) versus the controversy / liability involved with broadcasting porn, and the ROI isn't there.

    I'm not remotely surprised.

^ Exactly. This is doubtlessly more about economics than censorship. If these offerings were very profitable they would no doubt still be there.

Sorry if that rains on your tirade gawker. I know you live in a ridiculous Nanny State that regulates almost everything, so I'm not surprised that you see shades of Nanny-ism springing up all around you. I might too if I had to deal with that state government on a daily basis.

Massachusetts is a highly regulatory state. But Verizon is a private company, so this isn't a state government thing.

Also, gawker states that this is an issue with FIOS TV. To my knowledge, Verizon FIOS Internet isn't limiting access to any adult sites. So, they aren't blocking those sites across the board, they're just removing a tacit endorsement of adult sites by hosting the subscription services.

Understood CMI. The point of my comment was that being in a Nanny State like MA can make one paranoid about the motives of anyone who restricts something edgy or otherwise fun.
