One thing to watch out for: Fire tablets run a basterdized version of Android and you can't even use apps like Google Maps and others. Not really a true Android tablet. Good if you like Akexa, Amazon Prime movies, and buying shit on Amazon.
Google Maps, Chrome i.e. my FFootball page, Outlook... etc. all run just fine on my Fire's. Don't need it for MS Office or any higher powered software as I work in an office. Oh, and TUSCL and Pornhub run just fine too.... some slobbering included..... for $90.
^^^ Well, the Fire tablets run the Fire OS which is bastardized version of Android. In the past some versions of Fire OS did not support all the Google services. Maybe yours does. I would certainly check what comes with the new tablet before buying to avoid a lot of frustration.
Beating an already dead horse, it looks like you can load the Google Play Store onto Fire tablets which gives access to all the Google services. Guess I was wrong and that does make the Fire 10 a good bargain.
@Random - Yes, you have to set the permissions to accept outside apps from the Store; the Amazon weenies don't advertise that nuance readily. Then you can discard all their pre-loaded bullshit including the Silk browser.
From what I've read the interests in tablets is on the decline.
The new Fire tablet is out and I verified what @Longball said about being able to "sideload" the Google services with a little effort. I almost bought the new Fire 10. But Costco is having a Black Friday sale on the Samsung Galaxy Tab A 10.1 with 3GB of memory and 128GB of storage (plus 512GB of add-on storage if needed). It's a true Android tablet and the price is $199, which is a steal.
I bought the Samsumg and it's while supply lasts at Costco. I have all sorts of desktops and phone around the house -- but a 10" tablet is great for reading and browsing. Really like the Samsung-- it has a crisp display and plenty of horsepower for reading/browsing/movies--and it's dirt cheap.
I like me the Apple products because the company’s success reflects badassery. ricks respect badassery. But the iPad sucks for lions. It is only because I am among the most intelligent creatures on the planet that I can type my erudite comments.
By the way, with respect to my enlightening comments all I have to say is: you’re welcome. ROAR!!!

The ads are only on the screensaver and they disappear when you swipe.
It's only 2GB memory and 32GB storage.

^^^^ Still a lot of memory and storage.
