The Constituion is completely silent on the issue of whetrher or not states can leave the union and as such leaving is a right retained by the State. You need to look uop the definiton of traitor after you learn about the Constituion. Yes, he'd have been hanged in Iran, Russia, China and Saudi Arabia, given their know ledghe of state's rights.
