How have lap dances changed over the decades?

K
New Jersey
We have discussed this before but it pops up from time to time and it will be good to discuss something on topic for a change

in another thread someone mentioned that lap dances were mostly air dances years ago

I have been going to strip clubs for forty years. My friends and I had been looking forward to hitting the clubs for several years before that because our older brothers would talk about what went on in them.

There are regional differences but in NJ there were high mileage lap dances at least as far back as 1975. Some of the old time fishermen I knew years ago talked about hitting strip clubs after a day on the water. With what they said I feel confident pushing my 1975 date back at least another 10 years. It would surprise me to find they weren't available earlier than that. My generation did not invent strippers.

Lap dances are shorter now. when I started they weren't song based. I recall egg timers in many lap dance booths. five minutes was the minimum. eight and ten minute were common if my memory can be trusted.

There was more privacy. The lap dance area would be away from the bar area. many places had them up or down a flight of stairs. In many clubs the booth would have real walls and a real door, often with a lock. Now clubs use curtains and some even have the dances in a common area.

the dancers went topless even in bikini bars.

No cameras.

bouncers almost never interfered unless the dancer called him.

What hasn't changed...

extras have always been available in some clubs.

My experiences start about around 1990. Back then, air dances were all that I ever found in the clubs i went to. There were also those female reviews going around....basically, a set of 4 or 5 strippers that would put on a show in a night club prior to regular open dance nights. There were all rather tame and there was nothing like a grind that I ever came across (heh heh). That was also the time of the AIDS scare where we were being told that 1 in 4 people were carrying AIDS and if you even looked at someone of the opposite sex, you were likely to catch it and die.

I worked as a bouncer in a club in the early 90s and we were told to be strict. NO TOUCHING THE DANCERS and dancers would be disciplined for touching any customers. Table dancers were the norm, not private. I think the first grinding lap dance I got was probably late 90s in a Miami Fla club. My thoughts were like....why the fuck isn't it always like this?!?!?!?!!??!

I've never been a heavy monger. I just like going every once in awhile and I tended to go to the higher end clubs in my area. I've never really looked for extras though I always appreciated some stick shifting. That's not to say I would have necessarily turned down a nice BJ. But those just aren't all that common (in my experience) in central ohio.

I remember the days of no touching. Things have gotten better where I live. The best clubs have private VIP booths where you can get anything you want for the right price.

I remember the days of no lap dances. The clubs were all stage shows. This was the case in Nashville circa 1970. I heard that lap dances started in NYC where dancers would sit in guy's laps for tips. The LA clubs started with booth dances, maybe 1980. The customer sat in a chair watching the dancer in a small booth. A wooden rail separated them. Eventually, actual lap dances started, but they were no touch, hands by your sides deals. Extras were unheard of and not possible given the physical arrangement.

I've "only" be doing this for 10 years, but there has been a change. Most due to the changing economy. I found the strip club experience was the most fun in 2008-2010. A lot of beautiful girls in thier mid 30s who offered high quality and mileage dances. My favorite club at that time was Hott 22 and VIPs. At both clubs my MO was to walk into a packed club, have a drink or 2 in the company of my favorite dancer and then have a nice high mileage LD with GFE. It was so great that at the time my favorite girls would offer me extras at no additional cost.

These days clubbing requires a lot more research, mileage has dropped considerably, the girls arent as hot and plentiful, and the prices of LD and extras have gone up.Good deals are still out there, but randomnly walking into a club withoutmaking a few texts before hand is a terrible idea

Is it possible that your experiences are just a New Jersey thing specifically? I remember making a thread similar to this and Cashman agreed with you but you both live in New Jersey.

I became old enough to SC in the early-90s - I SCed a handful of times in the 90s in South FL - seemed two-way contact could be had but in my limited-experience it was hit or miss depending on the dancer and club (some clubs more of the dancers did 2-way-contact, some clubs only a few dancers did 2-way-contact but seemed to be allowed) - I only SCed a handful of times in the 90s and knew zilch about SCing and no experienced monger ever taught me the ropes, so IDK how much was available in the 90s in South FL nor how it progressed over the decade.

In 2000 I moved to Dallas and that is when I became a regular SCer after running into Baby Dolls one night cruising around getting to know the city - two-way contact seemed more accessible in Dallas in 2000 that what I had experienced the handful of times in South FL in the 90s (likely b/c I didn't know which good clubs to hit in the 90s and again I would SC once in a blue-moon).

It is possible. I know a few old timers that might be able to shed some light on this.

I did a very quick online search. A New York club and the Mitchell Brothers had lap dances in the 70's. The first known use of the phrase lap dance in an article was in 1986.

Thinking on it....the SC's had some competition back in the days, didn't they. Weren't the peep booths places fairly common? No contact but from what I heard, a lot of jerking off while looking at a live girl through some glass. Then you had Jacuzzi clubs....I remember one that was getting busted all the time for orgies and shit. I don't know if that was just the customers or if there were some pros. Up until the AIDs scare, I think ladies were a little freer with sex too weren't they?

It seems to me that strip clubs before the internet were more used more as a porn venue. Internet porn didn't exist yet and magazines certainly were around. Movies existed but porn theaters were much more seedy and kind of creepy back then and everything still costed money. Strip clubs offered the chance to actually see a naked girl in real life possibly doing sexual things. Strip clubs now have had to evolve because my generation has grown up being able to access millions of tits or lesbian pornos at the click of a button since they were 12 years old completely free of charge. Most people in my generation don't see the point of paying to see a naked girl in real life when there's millions of naked girls on the internet. I'm betting a lot of older people feel the same now because internet porn has been around so long. So strip clubs now have had to evolve to be as brothel-like as possible without breaking the law in order to appeal to people. This means that being able to touch the dancer is an absolute requirement, strip clubs cannot essentially be "live porn studios" anymore.
