  I think they're probably doing it because they think you want them to do it. It shows up more and more in porn now'days, I've noticed. Erotic asphyxiation can indeed be pleasurable (for either gender) but I can't imagine that it can be accurately accomplished with a partner whom you have just now met. You'd have to have an advanced degree in BDSM to know exactly how much to throttle her for stimulating pleasure but not pain.
