Fast Food / Junk Food Fantasy Revisited

shailynn
They never tell you what you need to know.
So I just had Popeyes Chicken this week. Damn that stuff is good. I’m sure if I had access to it everyday I’d hate it. I have everyday access to Chik Fil Et and some people go nuts over that but I don’t see the big deal.

Of course I feel like shit after eating it but that’s because of the biscuit. They have the best fries, and best mashed potatoes and gravy of any fast food joint. Yes I had both, and a biscuit. I think they call that carbicide.

What fast food restaurants do you get excited about when you’re out of town? What do you get there?

My list:

In and Out Burger (just a cheese burger and fries)

Captain Ds (greasy fish and their hushpuppies)

Popeyes (any type of chicken tender, but I’m mainly there for the mashed potatoes/cajun gravy and their fries)

I tried Chick-fila once at the Atlanta airport. I had their bourbon chicken. Then I had diarrhea and vomiting all night. And that was before I knew of the politics of the owner.

Popeyes also has really good red beans and rice.

Jack in the box tacos. (Disgusting but still satisfying)

    Sonic bacon cheeseburger

Not sure if this chain is everywhere - but I enjoy Five Guys Burgers and Fries. That’s some good - artery clogging - greasy food!

In N Out is way overrated. It's good, but nothing special, and the fries are tasteless.

Wendy's is much better than In N Out, but it seems to be the cool thing to say you like In N Out, probably because it is so exclusive geographically.

It's like people that go out for sushi; only complete tools really like that shit.

For you grammarians, was that the proper use of a semicolon?

Five Guys beats In-n-Out hands down but I do like both.

Popeye's is the shit. Love the spicy fried chicken until it gives me the shits.

But the ultimate fast food restaurant to me is Bo Jangles!!! Whenever I go to North Carolina it is a must visit.

Second to Bo Jangles is Culver's in Wisconsin and parts of Michigan. Butter burgers and frozen custard are sooo good there.

Five Guys is really good, but I think the cost puts it in a different tier with the upper end burger places like Burger Fi, Cheeburger Cheeburger, etc...

Wendy’s over In And Out? Hmmm not sure I agree with that but I agree if I want a burger and I have the usual 3 choices - Wendy’s, Burger King or McDonald’s - wendys wins.

I forgot Del Taco. Fabulous tacos. Only in the southwest and Michigan for some reason. Anyone know the story how they wound up in Michigan but aren’t anywhere else in the Midwest or east?

I think In N Out is overrated. When they're fresh, Carl's Jr and Jack in the Box burgers are better.

Del Taco isnt that big, maybe it was cheap to open up shop in Michigan.

    My Five Guys go-to burger:
    - lettuce
    - tomatoes
    - raw onions
    - jalapenos
    - BBQ sauce

In honor of this thread that is what I'm having for lunch today.

I never eat at most of these joints that you guys post here, I make a rare exception for Wendy’s chili, and if I’m traveling and there is a White Castle in my route I might stop and have a double cheese White Castle hamburger. Otherwise no thanks, I’d rather eat in a neighborhood luncheonette or pizzaria

Another vote for 5 Guys unfortunately the closest one for me is about 10 miles away. So I stick with Wendy's most of the time. I don't do any of the chicken places.

Church’s Chicken (with fried okra on the side)
Fatburger (ask for chargrilled instead of fried)
    Jack in the Box Tacos
Arby’s (still like their roast beef)
Wendy’s (try their chili sauce on the fries)

I stopped at the Popeye's on Telegraph Road in Detroit one night on my way home from the Penthouse Club. The workers stood behind a thick pane of bulletproof glass, and you had to put your money through a bulletproof turntable and receive your food the same way. The ambiance left something to be desired.

Popeye's and Church's are usually in the worst neighborhoods.

I've stayed away from typical fast food for the last few months.

If you ARE going to have fast-food, Five Guys is decent, although I don't like that all their burgers are cooked to well done. This is telling of the quality of their meat, imo, but whatever. There's one near my job that's open late. On Google it says it closes at midnight but that's either false or a very recent development. I used to go there to fill up on food and kill time after work while waiting for an Uber (we close at 2am, 5 Guys would still be open). Now I usually drive or have a friend take me, but it's a good option to kill time.

Popeye's is decent, but I wouldn't eat their chicken. Just sides.

I was alright with Wendy's (not often, but if I was hungry enough) out of all the typical fast food places. I think it's better than McDonald's, which my stomach can't process, as well as Taco Bell, etc. But I got sick a morning after eating Wendy's a few months ago and haven't eaten it sense. Taco Bell is good drunk food, but I always regret it after I realize once again that everything on the menu tastes the same - even though I never get their "meat" products.

Do places like Chipotle and Noodles N Co count as fast food? Chipotle is good. So is Noodles. I can eat both of those without worrying how it'll affect my stomach. Also, Panera Bread. Does that count? It's very healthy.

    I've never had Chik-fil-A, strangely.

Used to like Sonic when I was younger. I'd probably still eat it here and there if I weren't so anti-fast food these days.

i guess five guys is fast food, i never really thought of them as that or a regular resteraunt just kind of something in between. Don't you need a drive through to be fast food?
  • flagooner
Nina is on point with Chipotle. I was just thinking of burger places.

For sandwich shops I'm a fan of Jimmy John's.

But I try to eat out as little as possible, too much money wasted.
  • NinaBambina
Oh I like Jimmy John's, too. Delivery is cheap, there's usually a location nearby, and everything is very fresh. I also like their kosher pickles sliced into halves or quarters. Lol

"Jersey mikes is better than jimmy john."

Is it? I haven't tried it yet, but I figured it was just like a knock-off JJ that probably tastes the same. Am I that wrong? One open up near my mom's (but on the north side of 8 mile of course) near a street I used to live on while ago.

Oh I've also never had Del Taco. Idk what it's even about. Less of a Taco Bell and more of a Taco truck? Idk but there are so many places to get good "taco truck" within 20 mins or so. So not super fast, but cheap and yummy.

To answer the question I do get excited about White Castle if I stumble upon one when drunk. Great drunk food.

    Mighty Taco in Western NY.

Popeye’s and Bojangles chicken are about the same for me, that is, really fucking good, albeit in different ways. The real difference is the sides. Popeye’s does the gravy better, but Bojangles does the rice better.

White Castle when I’m out late.
  • yahtzee74
Nina, when you get delivery do you ever flash them your tits or answer the door dressed scantily to see if you can get the food for free? Maybe just to see how they react? Certainly you wouldn't have any problems with delivery distance if you did.
  • NinaBambina
Well I can't flash them if they don't come to my place.

But no, I've never flashed them to save money. I've answered scantily clad, like a really short t shirt or maybe a sports bra and underwear, because I don't care. But I always tip well, anyway.

I hate White Castle for some reason. I have one good memory there though, when I had about 10 friends over and we dropped acid and walked to the White Castle and that's about when the acid started kicking in.

I also live in a place where you can find several other much better places for little sliders, at a decent cost. Most are not drive through, but you can be in and out (no pun intended) in about 5 minutes.
  • Huntsman

Publix Chicken Tender sub is on sale this week. It is awesome tossed in mild buffalo sauce. And as 25 said, a half sandwich is plenty, even for a fat fuck like me.

Oh, and anyone that says Jersey Mike's is better than Firehouse can blow me.
