Why do Dancers wear High Heels?

I have never been a fan of high heels. I can't recall if I have ever seen a Dancer on stage without high heels, for over 30 years. Many, if not all Dancer high heels look more like 70's platform shoes, not a nice pair of pair of dress stilettos. I know this is probably for safety reasons. They need heels that can withstand many dances. But why not change the paradigm with something different?

    Probably because high heels make their asses stick out. For all the concern among white girls about their asses looking too big, they still wear heels because it makes them look good... they just don't seem to know exactly why. It's like a subconscious societal thing. They used to wear bustles in the nineteenth century for the same reason.

    I have given this some thought. I would agree with you SebHenley that I hate the platform shoes. I think it comes down to most men's perception of height. If you line up a bunch of girls and ask men to pick the most attractive they tend to choose the tallest. However a lot of that is to do with the feeling of status and women as possessions or trophies. I think if you put a guy on a deserted island where status is irrelevant the preference for taller would go away and a guy would want a girl there he would pick someone 2-4 inches shorter than himself. That 2-4 inch height difference (girl shorter than guy) is exactly what the vast majority of women want as well. And I think this is one of the reasons the strip club environment is not conducive to female bonding.

The vast majority of men and women, think women with long shapely legs are hotter than women with short legs, and the overall posture forced by high heels pretty much ticks all the boxes. Women just look waaaaay sexier in heels. Now, in the VIP, my favorite moment is when they take off their heels and they only come up to my chin. From far away, I love the shapeliness of a woman in heels. Up close, I love when she's much tinier than me

    The platforms are not to make her taller, it’s to make her legs looks longer on stage, since being up there makes them look oddly short, bc of the angle.

    I’ve seen a few strippers wear chucks on stage to go with their school girl or baseball outfit (baseball cap and jersey and boy shorts). Putting sexy stripper heels on an average stripper is just like someone putting expensive good looking wheels on an average or crappy car. Always makes it look better than it did before.

    I saw a dancer wearing army boots many years ago. She actually apologized. I was wondering if I would have noticed if she hadn't said anything. I might have. Didn't bother me one bit though. I saw one dancer wearing high heels that lit up and changed colors. I could not help but noticing those shoes. I tend to wear shoes for many years if still work ok and are comfortable. If she was barefoot on stage or wearing regular shoes, wouldn't bother me. For me this question is like why to guys have to wear ties for formal occasions? I do not like ties or suits. I get hot easy. Yet we still have this stupid custom based on hundreds of years ago. I probably have Viking blood in me and am more suited to cold Canadian air rather than 80 degree heat in the winter or 100 degree heat and high humidity in the summer. I currently have my air conditioning on and am thinking about turning it down because I'm a bit too warm. 72 feels hot inside the house. Had it in the 60's for weeks.

    Well, it's definitely not to make themselves look taller. Studies indicate that women prefer men who are 2 to 6 inches taller than they are, but I don't think there's any equivalent studies showing that men want a woman who's taller than themselves. I'm 6'4" so there's no such thing as a woman who's too tall for me, but it seems that lots of short dudes go to strip clubs. And they probably don't necessarily want to see a towering Amazon on stage. So I'm sure it's the ass thing. Also, @orionsmith, I could be wrong, but I think men wear suits to make their shoulders and chest look broader, and therefore more mature and less like a teenager. I think that's where the trend came from.

    I am a big fan of keeping women in high heels and makeup. Now like in the mundane work place, it is a waste. They should not have to do it for that much time of a day, or at least that much time on their feet. But it is an incredible turn on, the girl dressed for sex. It takes it all out of the mundane realm. I watch them and see the colors in their faces and I can feel the passions waiting to be brought to the surface, I feel them throughout my entire lower body.     From what I’ve heard - every stripper is assigned a pair of clear plastic platforms in basic stripper training. They can not lose those heels - or they lose their stripping license. I love dirty looking dancers in stripper shoes - as the platforms complete the look perfectly. If a stripper wore a classy set of expensive heels - I’d wonder if I was in the wrong club! I love it when the dancer takes off her platforms and I see her actual height. I’m 6’4” - and the dancers always look tiny.

    I'm sure it's not because they want to make their legs look longer on stage... otherwise, why would hookers wear high heels out on the street? And why would celebrities wear them on the red carpet? Or how about just the average civilian chick who's looking to suck some dick after a night out? They all usually wear high heels, too

    In certain cases, I think civilian girls might wear heels to show their calves? Some civilian girls might wear heels to look a little taller. They don’t want to appear tall, but they might want to stand out from the other girls. I’m not one who has any idea why women wear what they do - so my insights aren’t very insightful.

    I think the stripper stilts they wear are kinda silly. Ya know the ones that make her look like she's 7 inches taller than she actually is. But basic 4 inch heels make a woman's butt and legs look better. I actually like to have sex with them with those high heels still on. Doing it stand up doggy puts her at the perfect height.

    AFAIK most clubs require the dancers to wear them - I think it's b/c it's supposed to accentuate their figure as others have mentioned. I also think being taller sorta makes them stand-out more - kinda like many models are tall and are expected to be tall - something about looking tall is supposed to be better in some way.

    On my first night dancing, my heel broke while I was walking to my second stage in my set. You know where you see a girl walking in her heels and her ankle just folds in and she crumples as if she stepped into a hole? That was me. Anyway, I was escorting from the floor because apparently in Dallas, there is an entire law that says if I am nude on stage then I have to at least have on shoes. Why do they have to be stripper shoes though? Because the world likes to see us struggle. On the height issue, I've haven't had a customer tell me that I was too tall. I am about 5'6 without my heels so while I am working I am around 6 foot. If I am standing up with a customer that is shorter than 5'9 then it is the perfect height for my boobs to be in their faces. Guys haven't told me to get my boobs out of their face yet.

    ALWAYS! Looking for the height, and looking for the straps which will make sure they stay on. I have lots of experience doing erotic photo sessions with women. I make sure the shoes stay in the frame, with the poses. Shoes off, that would be after the first couple of rounds, when it is time to get into the hot tub, or the shower to clean up from anal.     Amelia reminded me of an interesting law in South Carolina that a dancer friend told me about. To be nude in a public area, a dancer must wear shoes of some kind, otherwise it can be construed as a violation of prostitution ordinances. I’m sure the same Victorian laws are still in effect elsewhere as well. Not totally germane to the topic at hand, but still an interesting nugget.

    I once asked a dancer if it would be nice if she could wear tennis shoes instead of the high heels and therefore look more like the girl next door. She replied that she didn't want to look like the girl next door.

    Some of the clubs I attend have a good number of short customers. I wonder if the dancers are more aware of their heels when they get off stage? Men usually want to appear taller than the girl?

    I have seen a few who don't wear heels. Most have been in dives, where the main reason is the dancer doesn't like heals. In the more "upscale" clubs while it's still mostly the dancer doesn't like heals, for a few it's because they are very tall.

    It improves the look of her overall physique. Standing in stilettos makes your ass and thigh muscles tighten, makes your legs look better, and also helps somewhat to suck in the stomach and improves posture.

    Brings back memories, of when decades ago I was in Portland, unexpected time spent in a little bar which had a stage added, as I found throughout Portland.
