Where have all the Strip clubs gone?

And yes, before anyone says anything I know that this topic has been brought up before many times and discussed, and we can all blame the easy access to internet porn and the political changes we have all seen.

I am currently working in a midsized city in the north east, one that 25 years ago had scores of strip clubs, topless joints, go go bars, and roadhouses with dancers. Where my hotel is right now use to be the site of two little raunchy go go bars (along with a few regular bars) that I loved going to. Now the closest one (a real dump) is about 20 minutes away, and maybe a half dozen now in the whole area. Now, I know the area has "tried" to clean itself up (crime 10 times worse then back then) which has run a lot of them out, but I miss those days.

Dwindling customer base, less dollars, dwindling dancers, less strip clubs.

I'll take your rant as a pep talk--makes me want to enjoy them all the more while they are still here.

I believe as long as there are not major regulations from the city there are still strip clubs where the people are. I travel to Atlanta, NYC, Cali for business and there are plenty of people and plenty of clubs. I also travel to Virginia Beach where there are plenty of people but the legislation makes it suck so the clubs are limited.

Your major metros (as long as they are legal) will always have some type of adult entertainment, but even in New York I remember when I bet there were at least 50 strip clubs in The Times Square area. The smaller cities and towns have even been hit worse, with many not having any at all anymore.

Costs for many things have gone up. Housing, Education and healthcare are bigger pieces of the budget than they ever were. those items are not optional. Real wages are down and expenses are up.
people do not have nearly as much discretionary spending as they did thirty years ago.

I think it's mostly localities seeing them as eyesores and not wanting them around - sex sales thus I dont think it's as much there not being enough custies

IMO... less disposable income has driven the 'casual' customer (i.e non-TUSCL-pros) out of the game.

I agree with K, real disposable income when you factor inflation into the mix has decreased the standard of living across the US unless you did really well or for some, you have two incomes. The recession in 2008 killed off almost all business at some clubs. Management sold them and new guys tried stuff that didn't work except to make the place a dull boring club.

Im thinking of a high end all nude club that in 2007 was packed with guys bringing in beer and large coolers of drinks but in 2008 with massive layoffs, it died out. Club was sold, new guys turned it to topless only selling drinks and food. It was too expensive and no nudity. I stopped visiting. It sucked. Good looking dancers left. At the same time businesses were hurting, cities were busy closing down some other clubs that had been around for many years due to new national zoning restrictions. Too close to a church, etc, etc. whoever implemented those new zoning laws shut down scores of strip clubs.

In some locations, city leaders called red light districts as a blight or disgrace to their cities and cleaned the whole area up. That's what they called it. They cleaned it all up by driving everything underground, out of sight, out of mind and harder to access. It's like we are having sex prohibition in the US. Our elected officials and stupid parents are in denial thinking if they shut strip clubs down or restrict them, everything will be fine but it doesn't do a thing to stop stds or sex. It just makes it hard to fine adult entertainment. Meanwhile teenage pregnancy and stds are running at much higher rates in the US than I bet almost every other western country.
